To have no clue what this is?! (Drugs / medication related)

Inside a new pot of my medication, just come to take it before bed. Little plastic container sealed but has something in and makes rattly noises when I shake it. Attached photo of it next to bottle of meds to show how small it is; never had this in my meds before so apologies if being really daft Blush

It looks like either something you put an oral syringe into to draw up liquid medicine from here??

Smiler1972 · 28/06/2017 23:46

Does it say do not eat on it? Could it be silica gel or similar to absorb moisture?

PersianCatLady · 28/06/2017 23:48

Sorry I didn't see that other photos at first.

Now I think it looks like something that is used as a desiccant to stop your pills damp.

Is your medicine a long acting formulation or something like that??

YellowLily · 28/06/2017 23:49

Yes says do not eat, I wondered if silica but doesn't say so on it and never had it in my meds before? I'm just concerned that some of what is in it has come out into the tablets, so concerned about taking my meds..Blush has anyone ever seen silica in medication before?!

Yes it's a desiccant to absorb moisture.

Haggisfish · 28/06/2017 23:50

Yes I have. Think it is just to absorb moisture.

Smiler1972 · 28/06/2017 23:51

When you shake it does anything come out? Not seen it in meds before though but I don't often get prescribed meds (or unprescribed sounded really dodgy then!)

YellowLily · 28/06/2017 23:54

No nothing coming out. It threw me because this is something I'm regularly prescribed and never once have I seen that before. Thanks, sounds like it's safe thenGrinBlush

it's desiccant to absorb moisture.........really

Patriciathestripper1 · 28/06/2017 23:56

It's the modern equivalent to cotton wool in the top of aspirin bottles Grin

MrsSkeletor · 29/06/2017 00:12

Totally normal.

mrsmalcolmreynolds · 29/06/2017 00:16

Definitely dessicant, had an identical thingy in my son's montelukast bottle the other week when it was loose pills in a bottle rather than a blister pack.

PookieDo · 29/06/2017 00:18

Totally is to absorb moisture Grin

Aquamarine1029 · 29/06/2017 04:22

It's to absorb moisture. Clam down and take your meds.

sueelleker · 29/06/2017 18:45

Might be a different brand-some have desiccants and some don't.
