I love this dress and am thinking of wearing it to a wedding next month with a black hat. However I'm hesitating for two reasons - (a) it's full length (but I hate my calves so would like to cover them if possible) and (b) it's predominantly black - and the bits of it that aren't black are white!

What do you think?

Oh it doesn't look like an evening dress! I'd wear that out during the day (if I wasn't so short that I get swamped by anything past the upper knee.)

SinglePringle · 28/06/2017 00:48

I disagree.

PoppyTree · 28/06/2017 00:52

Black and white? The dress is definitely blue and gold! Grin

Anyhoo. Yeah it's nice. Lovely for a wedding. And I think a medium sized floppy hat (maybe red) would go nice. Smile

Wow there are some obtuse people on this thread. I was simply pointing out that the convention exists that a hat isn't generally worn with a long dress and that this has been a long held belief. And they clearly have a point because if you look at the mock-ups that abigamarone did, the dress looks dreadful with a hat. Hmm

OP, it's a lovely dress. It will be perfect for a wedding, and I don't think it needs a hat.

RoganJosh · 28/06/2017 06:52

I've changed my mind about a bit of colour, after seeing the hats. I think a hat or fascinator in black/white/both looks fabulous.

BigYellowJumper · 28/06/2017 06:56

fenella and plenty of people have pointed out that no-one cares that much about convention these days, no need to get humpty about it.

GinIsIn · 28/06/2017 06:58

And I have pointed out that perhaps the convention exists for a reason because the dress looks silly with a hat.

AllUsedUpNow · 28/06/2017 07:00

I love the idea of hats that hamper kissing. Where can I buy one? Do they say Social Kissers Fuck Off instead of Kiss Me Quick?Smile

thethoughtfox · 28/06/2017 09:27

Fabulous

Pigface1 · 28/06/2017 16:28

abiga you're amazing!!! Grin

I like number 1 or number 5 I think... number 1 is pretty close to the hat I was planning to wear!!

I'm sorry, wrong. Thread but still from MN Angry

Lovely, wore a maxi to my BFF'S wedding, and a friend wore flop flops. I'd wear it with wide brimmed straw hat, either black or a bright.
