I love this dress and am thinking of wearing it to a wedding next month with a black hat. However I'm hesitating for two reasons - (a) it's full length (but I hate my calves so would like to cover them if possible) and (b) it's predominantly black - and the bits of it that aren't black are white!

What do you think?

Lovely. NOT A FASCINATOR just shouting it need a hat to balance the length. Red pashmina for ceremony? or would that be too flamenco dancer?

Lana1234 · 27/06/2017 18:45

That's gorgeous for a wedding!

randomuntrainedcuntowner · 27/06/2017 18:45

I love the coast one

Loopy567 · 27/06/2017 18:47

It's gorgeous, it's a yes from me.

MrsChopper · 27/06/2017 18:48

I like your choice better than the coast one tbh! Smile

user1496484020 · 27/06/2017 18:48

I think it's gorgeous and a hat will top it off.

Fletchasaurus · 27/06/2017 18:49

I would love that.... If I had a waist! Go for it!

toffeeboffin · 27/06/2017 18:50

Love it.

will you look better than the bride though

Borangeistheorange · 27/06/2017 18:51

I think it's fine.

BringMeTea · 27/06/2017 18:51

Totally fine.

Spam88 · 27/06/2017 18:53

Dress is fine but I think a black hat would be too much with it

Coddiwomple · 27/06/2017 18:53

It's gorgeous, go for it! Totally appropriate.

Madbengalmum · 27/06/2017 18:53

Yes, like that.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 27/06/2017 18:53

There will be other guests wearing full length, guaranteed

NameChangedButStillMe · 27/06/2017 18:53

Stunning dress, go for it

thatorchidmoment · 27/06/2017 18:55

Gorgeous. Maxi is perfectly lovely for a wedding: not sure why people are quibbling over the length?!
Like the idea of a monochrome hat with it, or one of those 'hatinator' (giant fascination) things to balance out the full skirt.
I'd say go super simple with accessories: some chic silver jewellery and a comb or single white orchid in a chignon or simple updo.

Liska · 27/06/2017 18:56

Agree with millie. Don't wear a fascinator, wear a nice big hat - I didn't think anyone really wore fascinators any more anyway, but you need a decent size hat to balance the shape of the dress. It’s gorgeous, and full length at weddings these days is fine.

TidyDancer · 27/06/2017 18:56

What is the problem with full length for a wedding?! I've been to loads where guests have worn lovely maxi dresses!

Pigface1 · 27/06/2017 19:13

Thanks so much for all your replies and wise counsel on the hat/fascinator issue! Since most people seem ok with the dress I think I'll go ahead and wear it, but I'll give a bit more thought to the headwear and may be back for some more advice! It's tricky shopping for wedding attire when you have chunky calves and ankles. I know full length isn't an automatic faux pas but I just worry about looking like I'm trying to upstage the bride - I couldn't even if I wanted to but still, no one wants to be THAT guest!

Thanks again for your replies - very much appreciated.

I think it's fine. Some people do think wearing black to a wedding is bad luck but I think that's quite old fashioned really. Never heard anything about not wearing full length. Don't think I'd bother with the headwear.

OVienna · 27/06/2017 19:17

If it's an evening wedding and v formal fine. Not for daytime. Sorry- knee length would be lovely.

SafeToCross · 27/06/2017 19:18

Lovely, might look more appropriate in the day than the evening?

ElfrideSwancourt · 27/06/2017 19:22

Gorgeous dress- I'd wear it with a large shocking pink hat (needs a hat rather than fascinator to balance length) and pashmina to add some colour.

LadyPenelope68 · 27/06/2017 19:24

Absolutely gorgeous and totally appropriate for a wedding!

Nicknacky · 27/06/2017 19:25

Op, do you have a link to it? I'm at the races in a few months and I like the look of it. Thanks!
