Men's short sleeve shirts

RoseVase2010 · 27/06/2017 10:28

Are they the most wrong item of clothing ever?

I can't stand them! Wear a t-shirt or wear a long sleeve shirt, not their ugly bastard love child. There possibly one of my biggest turn offs for a man.

There, I've said it! It's off my chest 😂 as you were!

My DP refuses to wear them, goes for long sleeved rolled up (same as picture above), it looks so much better!

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 27/06/2017 11:14

I think they are fashionable. DH is in his late twenties and the majority of his friends wear them.

Of course if going to a wedding it's long sleeve, but any other time and it's short sleeve.

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 27/06/2017 11:17

DH favours short sleeve shirts for work. They're appropriate for a semi-formal atmosphere (rarely needs a tie). They also last longer as it tends to be cuffs that wear out first. Between that and needing less air conditioning on, they're much better for the environment Wink

wherearemymarbles · 27/06/2017 11:24

Having said that i wouldnt wear them formally, only with shorts

Hekabe · 27/06/2017 11:31

Hate them. Dh has wonderful arms. Still looks like a badly dressed postman in them. I'd chuck them all out if I could.

KimmySchmidt1 · 27/06/2017 11:32

you are quite right, it is the world's greatest turn off.

Men should wear long sleeved shirts which in summer they roll up attractively, or alternatively a polo shirt.

Short sleeved shirts are appalling. Utterly appalling.

This epitomises why men should always try to get married - so they don't die prematurely in a short sleeved shirt.

JaceLancs · 27/06/2017 11:33

I know many men who rock a linen casual short sleeved shirt with shorts and beach shoes

Gileswithachainsaw · 27/06/2017 11:34

Nothing wrong with them. People are free to wear what they like

LaCerbiatta · 27/06/2017 11:37

Definitely a turn off! LOLing at Homer Simpson - that's exactly right!!

pigeondujour · 27/06/2017 11:39

They're awful. The exclusive domain of either my dad, or skinny young lads arguing with the bouncer on the door at Tiger Tiger to be let in wearing shorts.

TonicAndTonic · 27/06/2017 11:45

I think they are fine as long as they are worn without a tie or jacket. I read somewhere that doctors are meant to wear short sleeves these days because of the infection control risks of re-rolling their sleeves up between patients because they have started to unroll?

steppemum · 27/06/2017 11:47

Can't see this at all.
dh never wears T shirts, he looks like a strangled chicken in a round neck T, he needs a collar.

He wears polo shirts in the summer, but often wears a relaxed short sleeve shirt. They look nice on him, just can't see the issue!

But I hate short sleeves in a real office look, especially with a tie!

Long sleeves rolled up aren't as short and are much hotter.

NannyRed · 27/06/2017 11:48

If you overheard a man saying, women wearing shorts rather than skirts or women wearing a dress or skirt abover her knees was nasty in HIS opinion, would you think, "oh well it's his opinion and he's entitled to it" or would you think " people should wear whatever they damn well chose to wear"?

In all honesty I've never spent any time worrying about what other people chose to wear, I might laugh at a spotty skirt with gingham blouse and floral cardigan (yes I did see that combo), but I don't give it any serious consideration. Maybe it's you that has the problem rather than the shirt wearers.

silkpyjamasallday · 27/06/2017 11:52

They are so so gross, I have hidden all of DPs that he brought when we moved in together, he is a good looking bloke with nice arms and they still look shit. Long sleeves rolled up looks far nicer. Short sleeve shirts just make me think of weird male teachers and sweaty old men. Neither is a good look.

Scrumpernickel · 27/06/2017 11:55

YADNBU

Short sleeved shirts are the worst! I would describe them as being frumpy. So many women's clothing items get described as frumpy that it's only fair a man's garment is too.

And any time I see Dr Christian from Embarrassing Bodies on TV I think 'you look ridiculous bursting out of your shirt'.

Rolled up sleeves though, an entirely different kettle of sexy fish.

tonightonight · 27/06/2017 11:56

@NannyRed
If a man disliked something I was wearing, it wouldn't stop me wearing it if I liked it.
This is just women stating their personal opinions. Only someone very insecure would alter their style/wardrobe to please other people.
My DH wears some awful clothes and bad combinations, if he asks for my opinion I'll tell him the truth but he's very confident and he'll wear what he is comfortable in.
Doesn't mean I find all his outfits attractive. Sometimes they can be a turn off, but I'm not with him because of his style lol

Scrumpernickel · 27/06/2017 11:57

Polo shirts are also fine.

The80sweregreat · 27/06/2017 12:04

i hate the rolled up sleeves look as reminds me of dave cameron when he was trying to look 'working class' when out in factories and so on.
give me short sleeves any day - they must be cooler in hot weather too and dont look that bad.

Deploycharitygoats · 27/06/2017 12:05

Whenever I see short sleeved shirts on men, I think Mormon missionary.

Now, I am sure there are some mighty fine LDS types pounding the streets in their short sleeved shirts and name tags, but as a rule my mind doesn't leap from "serving a mission" to "hot damn". this is probably a relief to missionaries

Bubblesagain · 27/06/2017 12:07

In general, you're right, but there are always exceptions.

Thank you for this thread - I've always harboured a hatered for them. My ex looked awful in them poor lad. They are the work of the devil.

Scrumper - that photo is the perfect example. Just yakked up in my mouth a little bit.

Scrumpernickel · 27/06/2017 12:09

I'm sorry but Daniel Craig looks like a parish priest in the missions in that shot. And not a Thorn Birds style priest either.

chipscheeseandgravy · 27/06/2017 12:09

Long sleeves rolled up Grin

Short sleeves shirts? Reminds me of my grandad. Especially checked ones Grin

Polo shirts buttoned to the neck look awful, and so do shirts buttoned up to the neck without the tie.

Bubblesagain · 27/06/2017 12:11

Grin I would go to church if the priest looked like that!
