Who pays?

Yesterday i took a friend to her hospital appointment. I've took her before and ended up paying the parking fee as she forgot her purse. I honestly didn't mind as it was only a few quid and i had it in loose change in the car anyway. However yesterday she 'forgot' her purse again and this time as she was in there a few hours it was a bit more. I don't ask for petrol as the hospital is in our city and I'm not that tight but as I wouldn't be there if i didn't take her surely she should pay. Or aibu and should just pay each time. She's got another appointment next week so I'm expecting a text soon asking if I am available.

She pays, no question. My NDN has arguments with her grandchildren because she insists on paying parking AND petrol.

HipsterHunter · 26/06/2017 11:49

Is she asks you about a lift next week "sorry friend, after paying for parking and petrol the ;last two times my petrol budget is a bit tight so can't offer you a lift"

Questioningeverything · 26/06/2017 11:49

How bloody rude. Her appointment, she pays!

WicksEnd · 26/06/2017 11:49

You shouldn't have to ask, therefore I wouldn't take her again.
It's not even the paying for it, it's the assumption you will! Tell her to get a taxi.

MrsOverTheRoad · 26/06/2017 11:52

Is she someone who can't drive? It might be that she just doesn't consider it...ask her! Say could you bring some change for the parking please?

Sirzy · 26/06/2017 11:54

When you pick her up say "don't forget your purse"

RainbowPastel · 26/06/2017 11:56

What a cheek. She sounds like a freeloader. Be busy next week.

PhilODox · 26/06/2017 11:57

Well, parking at our hospital is £8 for 3 hours, so I'd just text back and say "sorry, no- I can't afford to pay the parking".
She'll either cough-up or hassle someone else.
Unless it's a v close friend.

BarbarianMum · 26/06/2017 11:59

Tell her straight - she needs to cover the parking fee. Or, better yet, ask her to refund the previous fees before you offer her another lift. Or let her pay for taxis.

IME people who don't drive are the least likely to forget their purse as they rely on buses and taxis more.

Writerwannabe83 · 26/06/2017 11:59

With these regular appointments is shecquite unwell? Is she off work and struggling financially?

Not that it would excuse her but I'm just trying to think of possible reasons why she isn't getting buses or why she isn't offering you money for petrol and car parks?

JustMumNowNotMe · 26/06/2017 11:59

Cheeky wench! She should definitely pa! Say no to any more lifts!

JustMumNowNotMe · 26/06/2017 12:01

Before i drove, if anyone took me tp my appts I always paid the parking and offered petrol money, and bought coffee and cake to say thanks. Its just good manners!

scottishdiem · 26/06/2017 12:02

When you pick her up (if you do it again) ask if she has her purse. If she doesnt, send her back in for it.

RhubardGin · 26/06/2017 12:03

She pays. Very rude and ungrateful on her part.

If she texts respond , "no problem, remember to bring spare change for the parking"

Some people really are cheeky fucks.

Grainfail · 26/06/2017 12:13

Definitely she pays.

Maybe "sure can give you a lift. Can we settle up on the parking costs this time too?"

ShitStorm2017 · 26/06/2017 12:15

You friend should obviously play but if it were me, I wouldn't chase a friend for a few quid.

However next time, sa you can't do it or text her reminding her to bring her purse as you can't afford to pay for parking again.

harderandharder2breathe · 26/06/2017 12:17

Of course she should pay! You're only going there because she needs a lift.

I could understand in an emergency that parking payment wouldn't be the first thing on anyone's mind, but for a regular appointment there's no excuse

Tell her that you can't afford to keep giving her lifts since she never pays for petrol or parking. Hopefully it's just not occurred to her and she'll apologise and pay you back and pay for any future lifts. If she's a freeloader she'll try and guilt trip you but don't let her!

LagunaBubbles · 26/06/2017 12:19

Why should you expect to pay the parking for the benefit of your friend attending the hospital? If you werent taking her it would cost her to get there!Confused

user1498166085 · 26/06/2017 12:21

She probably just isn't thinking clearly. I'd be much more forgiving/tolerant in your position. Why get so nasty over a few quid?

FakePlasticTeaLeaves · 26/06/2017 12:23

Very rude. If she texts you again just say "Of course! Make sure you don't forget your wallet this time so I don't have to spend all my money on taking you there and parking my car. hahaha."

onlyjustme · 26/06/2017 12:24

What are you doing while she is in the hospital?

I often get a lift to the hospital but don't expect someone to park there and wait for me...
Similarly I have dropped people off and picked up, and would not stay at the hospital pay for parking, just go and do whatever I wanted to do in the mean time.

lanouvelleheloise · 26/06/2017 12:25

I would think she should pay, but if she's anxious/worried then she may honestly have forgotten, or simply not want to think about money right now. If it's just a few quid and you can spare it, I'd let it go and chalk it up to the Friend Support Fund!

LagunaBubbles · 26/06/2017 12:26

Why get so nasty over a few quid?

Have you seen the price hospital parking can be? Hmm

honeyroar · 26/06/2017 12:26

Next time, if there is one, ask her to remember her purse as she gets in the car - tell her you've no money and can't pay for parking.

SapphireStrange · 26/06/2017 12:27

No one 'forgets' their purse twice like that.

If she asks again, I'd say 'I'll need to ask you for the parking from now on; budget's a bit tight since I subbed you the last couple of times.'
