To think that the perfect bra doesn't exist?

Even when I find a bra that fits how it's apparently supposed to and feels fairly comfortable, it doesn't put my boobs where I want them to be. Is it abnormal to want them hoiked up somewhere around my neck? Even if I find a bra that seems to provide the correct level of support, it feels like my boobs are being supported too far down my body for my liking. Do I just have unrealistic bra expectations?

I find bras incredibly uncomfortable, I'm in the right size but underwires always dig in. At the end of the day I have deep lines in my flesh usually round the sides. I found some m&s ones which were lined in a kind of satiny fabric and they were waaaaay more comfortable. I bought 4 but this was a few years back and they are coming to the end of their lives. Plus they are really ugly, so I'd quite like some prettier ones anyway.
Intrigued by the comfortable quilted JL one mentioned by @NavyandWhite - any chance of a link?

HateSummer · 25/06/2017 12:38

Since having my third dc when I measure myself using the bra intervention way, the bras don't fit. According to bra guru, I have a 32 inch waist and size GG cup. So I ordered bras in that size and omg I couldn't even get them to shut around me. I ended up buying attachments to make the waist wider and I'm sure it's size 36 now. The cups chaff my armpits so are way too big. I spent a lot of money on new bras and none of them fit. I wish breasts would fall off after you've nursed 😒.

LaurieFairyCake · 25/06/2017 12:40

Bras are fucking shit, I hate them all. I've tried every single one mentioned on this thread and none of them fit without digging in/riding up/cutting in to my shoulders.

I want a t shirt bra with no lace of any kind and no padding at all. Wider straps so they don't cut my shoulders. It doesn't exist. I have deep welts on my shoulders from never finding a bra that fits.

Basically I want a bikini top like this made of stretchy bikini fabric.

I hate lace so much because I put my thumbs through it hauling them into place.

I wear bras that don't come up to my size and put up with the 4 boob effect.

HerBluebiro · 25/06/2017 12:40

Rightwhine I think they are stretchier now a days. I'm also a size 16 and a 34G (or 34GG in m+s as they skip FF). New bras only washed once and I'm already using the 2nd or tightest setting. If I measure myself using a tape measure, 34 inches is so tight I think it might snap level of tight. But modern bands are just so very stretchy.

I second the PPs recommendation of Bravissimo Satine.

I was wearing 40DD from M&S for years after finishing breastfeeding my 6th baby. I went to Bravissimo in Glasgow last year in desperation after my SIL told me about them. I wish I'd gone years ago - it was a revelation. The assistant was fab, bringing me lots of styles and sizes to try. She also made me put my top on to see how each bra looked under it. I settled on the Satine in a 36HH. Now my boobs are where they should be, I look like I've lost a stone, and rediscovered my waist! My clothes fit better, too.

Btw, be prepared for your bra to feel tighter under the bust than you may have been used to.

SnugglySnerd · 25/06/2017 12:59

I've tried most of the bras recommended on here and none fits either and yes I have been measured. I'm in a 30F and just bought a Jasmine. It fits well, looks nice and nothing moves but I've worn it 3 times and I have sore red marks and bruising between my boobs from the wires digging in.
Satine actually cut into my flesh. Moulded bras do nothing for me as I'm fuller underneath than on top. Deco was very uncomfortable.
I'd really like a smooth bra with no moulding, padding or lace to wear under t shirts. I asked in Bravissimo and the lady couldn't suggest anything.
Hate bras!

LaurieFairyCake · 25/06/2017 13:06

That bra is all lace, doesn't go up to my size (34K), and has no wiring. I couldn't manage without wiring.

WhooooAmI24601 · 25/06/2017 13:07

I went to Rigby and Peller a few years ago and was converted into a world where bras cost more than a night in a hotel but make my breasts look spectacular. I swear by them.

LaurieFairyCake · 25/06/2017 13:15

Yes it's a shame Rigby and Peller don't do large cup sizes. I've just fruitlessly scrolled through 15 pages because you can't search by size and there's no J/K sizes.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 25/06/2017 13:21

R&P do large cup sizes in store if you can get to one. Made to measure too, though for £££.

Cellardoor23 · 25/06/2017 13:40

According to bravissimo I'm a 34G/GG and I vary anywhere from a size 14-18. Mainly an 18 in buttoned shirts as I can't get the buttons up in a smaller size.

The most comfortable bra I've ever worn has been refined glamour wonder bra. The back sizing is a bit generous, so you could probably get away with a size down as it stretches quite quickly. Still a comfortable bra though.

I tried boob or bust measurement and according to that it says I'm a 34J? I'm pretty sure I measured correctly, so I'm a bit confused with that website.

Agoddessonamountaintop · 25/06/2017 14:30

The assistant was fab, bringing me lots of styles and sizes to try. She also made me put my top on to see how each bra looked under it.
Well that's how it should be, but it obviously depends on the branch and the individual assistant you get. I've had so many doing the Hmm face when I've told them a bra is no good that I just don't trust them any more, no matter what the posters all around the shop say. I dread going for a fitting now.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 25/06/2017 16:46

I have found the fitters in bravissimo annoying

Telling me I had a wonderful curvy figure Hmm and the bra worked wonders for my curves no I am over weight that is why my bust is ridiculously big

It's always been big but that I am fat puts more weight on my bust and really a 32/34 J bust isn't attractive and curvy it's just big and out there though a good bra improves the shape

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 25/06/2017 16:52

I have been wearing GG and recently bought a bra (after an excellent fitting) in a J fits and looks much better it's a curvy Kate bra that I think come up a little smaller than some other makes (might be wrong about that)

TittyGolightly · 25/06/2017 17:02

I ordered a curvy Kate strapless bra in my normal size and it's absolutely enormous! Half of Glastonbury could camp under it! 😂

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 25/06/2017 17:07
Grin I feel like with some of my bras
IHateUncleJamie · 25/06/2017 17:54

I love Bravissimo. The fitters at the Oxford Circus store are lovely. ❤️

mimiasovitch · 25/06/2017 18:53

The Jasmine is my most favourite bra - nothing compares for the shape I get. I really want a seam free t shirt bra, but can't find one I like the fit of. If anyone can recommend one with a similar cut to the jasmine id be eternally grateful.

With regard to Ewa Michelak, have those of you who've ordered used their measuring guide, or gone by your normal size?

Buckinghambae · 25/06/2017 18:56

Most frustratingly I found mine in Australia - most comfortable thing ever and boobs at the right height/position but I always take the labels out of my bras so I have no idea where it came from!

londonmummy1966 · 25/06/2017 19:40

Proper fitting is essential for big boobs - R&P all the time for me but that is no good to you OP unless you are coming to London. BTW the R&P between Regent St and Bond St doesn't need an appointment you go in and take a numbered ticket and wait (in their rather glamorous waiting area).

John Lewis and Debenhams fitting services aren't too bad although not to the same standard. I use JL fitters for sports bras as I like Freya underwired sports bras for running and R&P didn't stock them.

Is there an old school department store near you where posh older ladies go as they tend to have decent fitters?

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 25/06/2017 20:16

R&P much better than Bravissimo IME and you can give them a price range to prevent them coming out with 100 quid bras.

Ollivander84 · 25/06/2017 21:26

I wear the same size in Ewa as I do normally Smile

treaclesoda · 25/06/2017 21:38

I also wear my normal size in Ewa Michalak.

I don't think bras are bigger these days, just that more people are in the right size, whereas in the past you got 32 to 38 in sizes B-D and if you didn't fit into them, tough shit, you wore a badly fitting bra.

What is referred to here as the 'new' way of measuring isn't new at all. I'm in my 40s and have never known any other method. My sisters are much older than me and have never been measured any other way. And my 80 something mum says she was never measured anywhere that added on five inches either (although she says that back in the 50s her bras didn't have band and cup sizes, it was just small, medium large etc)

Agoddessonamountaintop · 25/06/2017 21:44

Is it just me, or is the EM website v. difficult to navigate? There doesn't seem to be a aearch function for colour/sizes and the currency is impenetrable Confused.
