To suggest she pays half?

I broke my arm on Tuesday and have a stooky. The doctor said I cannot drive.

I am going to a friend's birthday party tonight at her house and had intended to drive as I don't drink. I had agreed to give another friend a lift. I called this friend on Wednesday to let her know and suggested we get a taxi instead and go halfs. My friend didn't disagree.

I called friend to confirm what time to pick her up she mentioned that she thinks I should pay for the taxis as I initially offered to give her a lift. She tinkly laughed after mentioning this. I laughed too and said fair enough I'll meet you there instead. Thinking she was joking. She wasn't. She has texted to say if I don't pay for the taxis there and back so won't be going.

Aibu to expect her to pay half? The cost would be about £5 each. Should I pay and never offer to give her a lift again?

I'm thinking of reply - yes it is super broken. thanks for the offer of a lift I'll let you know when i need them.

I might as well be as obtuse as she is.Grin

'Sure you didn't. Right. Don't ever contact me again.'

expatinscotland · 25/06/2017 12:19

She's not obtuse. Quite the opposite, very manipulative. If you can't tell her to do one then I wouldn't bother replying to her at all and certainly would never offer her another lift or provide one if asked.

Foslady · 25/06/2017 12:20

Ask her what sort of broken she thought it was!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 25/06/2017 12:21

"Didn't realise your arm was that broken" - is she for real? How broken did she think broken meant, did she think you were trying it on to get her to pay for half a taxi ride for your own benefit?? IS she utterly fucking stupid? Am really shocked that she thought that comment in ANY way mitigated her stupid selfish behaviour.

God.

Really hope you fuck her off entirely and never offer her lifts or help with anything ever again. EVAH.

diddl · 25/06/2017 12:24

"Ask her what sort of broken she thought it was!"

Obviously the sort that stll allows you to drive a "friend" aroundGrin

Theresnonamesleft · 25/06/2017 12:34

I would text her back
That makes no sense. I tell you my arm is broken and cannot drive. Anyway whatever. The time to offer a lift was on Wednesday or when I called to confirm what time to get you.

Op, we are all enraged and you are as cool as a cucumber!! How are you not calling her out on this? You've got more restraint than me. It's not about your arm. It doesn't matter what the circumstances are, if you couldn't drive for whatever reason you should not have to pay her way! Her strange "exactly how broken is your arm" criteria shouldn't factor into it. What she did was rude regardless.

LexieLulu · 25/06/2017 12:50

Do you think that cause other friends were shocked by what she did, she realised she was wrong?

Still wouldn't accept apology

Mrbluethecatt · 25/06/2017 12:53

im more annoyed now, she has texted to ask to borrow our lawnmower and asked if my dh could bring it round. DH is away with work!

I must have mug printed on my forehead.Angry

Fuck it, I'm going to have to tell her to do one.

Tell her to get a taxi round to come and get it, and another taxi to drop it back later

Mummyoflittledragon · 25/06/2017 12:57

I'd go with Theresnonames answer or similar. Your answer doesn't convey your disgust. Perhaps add in the super broken bit.

diddl · 25/06/2017 12:58

Oh, couldn't see that coming...Hmm

rightwhine · 25/06/2017 12:58

Wow. She really doesn't get it does she?

BewareOfDragons · 25/06/2017 12:58

"Fuck off you selfish, miserly user. You are obviously not my friend."

Then block her.

Mummyoflittledragon · 25/06/2017 12:59

Cross post lol at the lawnmower. No way. Tell her her dh can give her a lift to b&q. They have some nice ones there. Seeing as he's sooo good at giving lifts that shouldn't be a problem.

ImperialBlether · 25/06/2017 12:59

Exactly!

She is using you. I wouldn't reply to either text. Who the hell does she think she is?

rightwhine · 25/06/2017 12:59

Yep mug is printed in neon colors and flashing brightly too.

diddl · 25/06/2017 13:00

Hang on, her husband has a car & can drive, & now that you can't they think that your husband should run around after them??

Bloody hell.

expatinscotland · 25/06/2017 13:00

Yeah, you need to tell her to do one. That's just . . . not a friend but a user. The only reason she sent you that text was so that she could try to use you again. 'No. Quite honestly, I feel really used. I can't believe you tried to guilt me into paying for a taxi for you after I told you I'd broken my arm and couldn't offer you a lift. Then you threatened not to go, but got your husband to take you and didn't offer me a lift. Now you blow off that kind of behaviour so you can ask for another favour and use my husband as a delivery service into the bargain. What planet are you on? Please just go away.'

Foslady · 25/06/2017 13:00

She's already saved herself the taxi fare towards a new one!!!

ThomasRichard · 25/06/2017 13:01

Next time you break a bone (hopefully never!) you can gleefully tell her you did it on purpose to escape her cheeky demands.

expatinscotland · 25/06/2017 13:02

'Wow. She really doesn't get it does she?'

Yeah, she does.
