Aibu to resent people loitering in the toilets at work

Dodgy stomach at work today resulting in less than refined sounds from the cubicle. Our loos are inclined to echo horribly. It's all very embarrassing. On arrival there was a girl I know there wading her hands so she saw me go in. She then faffed around for 10 minutes cleaning her teeth, brushing her hair and applying makeup while I tried unsuccessfully to keep the noise down. If I eyeball someone entering a loo I exit quickly to give them privacy but maybe iabu?

YANBU people are weird, who wants to listen to other people going to the loo!? Although what can you do about it? Ask her to jog on?! Grin She has every right to hang around and do her hair etc hope the tummy is better now! Flowers

FloatyCat · 23/06/2017 18:02

YANBU people on the phone conducting a full blown conversation get my goat. Don't hold back with the flushing and hand drying they will soon get the message!

Groupie123 · 23/06/2017 18:03

YABU. Shared toilets are just that. Can't ask someone to 'jog on' if they're putting on make up, in the same way they can't call you a dirty cow for having a shit with people right outside. You just have to make do.

Pigface1 · 23/06/2017 18:21

YANBU. At work a couple of weeks ago I was in a similar position to you and there was a girl from another floor hanging round by the sinks READING THE PAPER. Obviously, in complete silence. I mean who does that in the loo?? Genuinely seems vaguely perverted to me.

Moanyoldcow · 23/06/2017 18:22

YADNBU - I hate this.

NotAPuffin · 23/06/2017 18:24

People talk on the phone in ours. Madness.

FanaticalFox · 23/06/2017 18:24

Put loads of toilet paper in the loo first then cough and sneeze your way through the noises. I do it all the time just to hide my own embarrassment!

SunsetBeetch · 23/06/2017 18:26

YANBU. Why TF anyone would want to hang around a germy toilet any longer than necessary is beyond me. And as for people who take their mugs in there with them...sheesh...

BigChocFrenzy · 23/06/2017 18:27

You need the Japanese system in toilets:

A colleague who worked there reported they are even more sensitive than the OP about loo noises being overheard
So their loos have music or waterfall noises piped through, to drown out any sound

And some Japanese sing loudly in the loo as well, to cover the slightest tinkle

BigChocFrenzy · 23/06/2017 18:29

If I were to sing though, I'd get far more complaints than from the noisiest fart !

SlB09 · 23/06/2017 18:29

Ergh why would you brush your teeth etc in a shared work toilet!!! Yeah I definately dont hang about for too long in there!

IrritatedUser1960 · 23/06/2017 18:30

I fucking hate that :-( Especially when you are trying to take a dump and the three witches are chatting and laughing right outside the door.

xkatie27x · 23/06/2017 18:30

I loiter in the toilets at work all the time, usually because I'm bored and can kill at least 10 minutes on my phone. I don't want to listen to someone else doing a poop though and will leave very quickly if that happens.

VeryButchyRestingFace · 23/06/2017 18:33

She then faffed around for 10 minutes cleaning her teeth, brushing her hair and applying makeup while I tried unsuccessfully to keep the noise down

I flush the toilet first, so the noise of the flush and cistern refilling masks the sound of 💦

PavlovianLunge · 23/06/2017 18:34

Did someone mention Japanese toilets?

It's annoying late on a Friday afternoon when people are putting make-up on etc. at the sinks and I want to wash my hands.

KimchiLaLa · 23/06/2017 18:37

YANBU. People do this in mine all the time. Old Job a girl who would hairspray her Barnet for a good 20 mins. Second job people who just want to catch up on life in general. Do it elsewhere!

mistermagpie · 23/06/2017 18:40

People will tell me I'm bad, but I use the disabled toilet at work when I have tummy trouble for this exact reason. In my defence, there are no disabled people on my floor (I know this for a fact due to my job) and there are two disabled toilets on every floor (which are separate little rooms to the main toilet).

Loads of people put make-up on or chat on their phones in the main toilet and it's just embarrassing for everyone if you're doing noisy pooing at the same time!

CaoNiMartacus · 23/06/2017 18:43

God, I just let rip regardless. If people want to loiter around in the bogs, they get subjected to whatever might be erupting.

MouseholeCat · 23/06/2017 19:02

YANBU- I wish more places had floor to ceiling cubicles. There's one woman at work who sits on the loo whilst on the phone with her boyfriend. I'm always tempted to let rip so they think it's her. Although I'm guessing if you have that sort of relationship you don't exactly mind. I boak at the thought of the germs her phone must have though.

DailyMailReadersAreThick · 23/06/2017 19:04

YANBU

Really annoys me, especially when they do their makeup.

Efferlunt · 23/06/2017 19:07

There is a woman at my work who disappears into the loos for about twenty minutes each morning and watches Netflix at full volume on her phone whilst doing whatever it is she is doing in there! Might be acceptable at home, but at work? Ewwww

Batfurger · 23/06/2017 19:13

Do these people not have jobs to do? How disposable must you be xkatie27x if you can loiter for 10 min at work with no one chasing you? How about doing something useful with the time you're getting paid for?

EssentialHummus · 23/06/2017 19:13

big in a lot of places in Japan toilets will have a little remote next to them for seat temperature, water squirting direction etc - and a white noise button. It was a highlight on our trip there Grin

BuzzKillington · 23/06/2017 19:14

I can barely do a wee in the work loos. If I had an upset stomach, I'd have to go home.

I end up so desperate to pee, I have to wait until I'm alone as I'm embarrassed at doing a massive cow wee.
