AIBU unreasonable to think I could take 2 x 70yos to Glasto / a festival?!

it's my dad's 70th in a few weeks and i'm struggling for a brilliant present idea

i suddenly thought this morning, we could take them to glasto next year. it would be eye popping for them, but they're awesome so i know we'd have a blast

my issue is that to do it in the luxury that would be ESSENTIAL (trust me) for them to relax and enjoy it is no doubt beyond our financial means

i'd be interested to know whether others have done it "posh" and what that costs

but also, are there any other festivals that might be better / smaller / easier to do in a naice way that will be more affordable and manageable, iyswim?

i'm quite taken with the overall idea, just need some help from people with more experience!

thanks all

Green Man is awesome. Gorgeous setting, weird and wonderful music. Great food and drink. Loos were rank in 2010 but may have improved.

meladeso · 23/06/2017 10:38

Macarena not at all
i have been to festivals
they have always looks wide eyed with wonder but not been quite brave enough to do it
i think they'd be tickled pink
i have two small children these days so frankly would be happy to never go to another
however i don't think buying them 2 tickets and saying "off you pop" would be very gracious either

my "eyepopping for them" was in a good way
and my "they're awesome" referred to my youthful and cool parents, not the festival

but thanks for your comment... Hmm

Yes festival no. 6 in portmerion- lovely areas to potter around in and there is luxury hotel/accommodation on site too. I'd check it's something they're into first as doing a festival in luxury can be ££££

roamingespadrille · 23/06/2017 21:01

Sidmouth Folk Festival is lovely. Early August.

It would be my worst nightmare.

jellyshoeswithdiamonds · 23/06/2017 21:33

Carfest.
We do south, hubby likes cars, dd likes the bands, I like them leaving me at the main stage area with all our gear set up so I can potter around the food tents and have a nap when it all gets too much.

Very family friendly, most years see grandparents coming too, they always have the comfiest chairs.

The80sweregreat · 23/06/2017 21:39

Its not on next year. Good idea though, if thats what they are into.

roselondoner · 23/06/2017 21:44

I'm going to Latitude this year with my friend and his 70yo dad! He goes every year and bloody loves it. Hires a camper van for the weekend and camps in style

FiveGoMadInDorset · 23/06/2017 21:48

Lamer Tree is amazing, small, very chilled

whitehandledkitchenknife · 23/06/2017 21:56

Another endorsement for Latitude. All ages represented, great facilities, great performers, great atmosphere. We go every year but are lucky enough to have friends in the area.
Would you consider bnb? Book now ish for next year? It's always the weekend around the 16th July. Another friend has bnb bookings that roll on each year just for this. There's a good shuttle bus that runs regularly from the surrounding villages too.

We did Carfest South a few years ago, all of us knocking on a bit. Something for everyone, cars, food, music and lots more. We stayed off site in a travel lodge which was ideal.

inkydinky · 24/06/2017 00:10

Green man is lovely and relaxed. Loos and showers were fine in family camping last couple of years. We typically camp for a week and go off and explore the area for a few days while were there.

JennaRainbow · 24/06/2017 03:23

Wilderness, while awesome and gentle when you're there, is a bugger to walk to from the car park or camping site. Isle of Wight sounds perfect for you all. Jealous!

mylittlephoney · 24/06/2017 06:19

Have to recomend Beautiful Days nr Exeter. I've been to everyone and absolutly love it . It's like how real festivals used to be. No corporate sponsorship and just a lot of folks having a blast. Tickets almost gone btw .

Zampa · 24/06/2017 06:24

Latitude and Camp Bestival would be great if you were thinking of a 3 generation trip.

I'd suggest Bestival too or any of the other Isle of Wight festivals. We always stay off-site in a static caravan meaning comfortable sleep, a nice fry up in the morning and decent showers without queues. It's never an issue getting cabs on and off site.

RadiatorWatch · 24/06/2017 07:08

Depends on the how fit and healthy the 70year olds are. I have a 70year old grandfather who went backpacking last year, staying in tents, hiking, Various festivals, that sort of thing, he had an amazing time.

sandgrown · 24/06/2017 07:18

I am an older mumsnetter. Never been to a festival but would love to go to Glastonbury. I have been pricing up my options for next time. I would like a bit of luxury but if I booked an expensive tent what happens if I can't get a ticket?

ZZZZ1111 · 24/06/2017 07:46

Standon Calling in Herts is a great family friendly festival

malificent7 · 24/06/2017 07:50

Am currently at Glasto with 9 yr old dd ( bday yesterday) she loves it! Its her 3rd time.

RebeccaJane12 · 24/06/2017 07:51

Sundown in Norwich every September. VIP there too and not badly priced :)

malificent7 · 24/06/2017 07:52

She also loved Boomtown although thats not really family orientated but there was enough for kids to keep her amused.

Sconesnotscones · 24/06/2017 07:55

try festival number 6 in port merrion
Is that the place from "The Prisoner"? That would be great.
