To be a tiny bit annoyed people always assume DD is a boy?

Unless she's dressed predominantly in pink?

Ok, I admit I'm not the 'girliest' woman ever and I'm not massively into pink, though she does have some pink clothes.

If she's wearing a blue dinosaur romper then fair enough, but today she was wearing a red and white striped ladybird vest (tiny writing actually says 'little lady' if you get close enough), and a denim look dress. Admittedly you'd have to get close to see it was a dress in the buggy, but do red, white, and denim really shout 'I have a penis'?

I'm really not that bothered (she's only nine months so doesn't care either), and mostly don't even bother correcting people unless they say 'what's his name?' and I just say 'she's xxxx'. At which point some people give me a dirty look like I've deceived them!

But AIBU to wish a tiny bit that people wouldn't assume that any baby not covered in pink must be a boy?

I probably am.

YANBU! It drives me mad. DD (10 months) was dressed in a blue denim pinafore with a white tshirt and a turquoise floral bib the other day and three separate people in Waitrose commented on what a lovely wee boy she is. The first two I let go, the third I corrected, to be met with 'but she's got a boy's face. Definitely a boy's face.' Hmm

There's been a lot of mentions of dinosaurs earlier on the thread - not saying dinosaurs need to be 'pinked up' but Next do have an adorable range of slightly more girly dinosaur stuff, without having gone too far down the 'Princess Dinosaur' route, IYSWIM. DD looks super cute in her dino PJs Grin

@Screwinthetuna you may be right. Captain Calamari could be our undoing in terms of gender recognition as he's a permanent feature on the pram. Sadly, DD much prefers the Captain to either of the girly Lamaze dolls she has, so he stays!

Now I'm wondering if I'm BU by assuming Captain Calamari is male. Sigh. Time to go to sleep, I think!
