Arrived on business to city and decided to drop my bag before heading to conference . Booked hotel last minute . Wasn't cheap . Man meets me in street and takes bag showing me entrance to " hotel" next to door to betting shop . Ok a bit weird but I was in a hurry .i return later and let myself in with code and find my room is up 2 flights of a spiral staircase which I find hard to navigate ( won't go in to detail ) . So I ask weird guy who appears with bag if he had another room . He does - it's fine and I say I'll move to that one . Then he says he would prefer if I left . I'm now feeling a bit freaked out and think best to get the out of the place and away from weird guy . I ask him to reimburse me before I leave . He agrees then comes back and says his boss says no . I'm cross now and mention trip advisor - he then says he will pay me himself and gets me to accompany him to thencash point . He gets me the money and off he goes . Now in ianother hotel - but what the fuck was that all about - was it a brothel , should I get in tripadvisor anyway ???

PutUpWithRain Are you saying there's more than one MJB hotel? Shock

Mill46 · 21/06/2017 22:22

dont want man to come and take his money back as now in a rather lovely hotel 😂. Booked on booking.com - but noticed it's only got 2 reviews on TA . Shall I do a review on TA or have I taken blood money ?

Ah, Oxford - wasn't the one over a bar was it? Or the one further up the same street which has a weird entrance?

But if you're talking about the Boccardo or the Buttery, they aren't brothels Grin

IloveBanff · 21/06/2017 22:24

Well what are the reviews like on TA?

Mill46 · 21/06/2017 22:26

Fake reviews - you know all amazing and no mention of staircase

I have also inadvertently booked a room in a brothel via booking.com. But it was in Dar at least. I have a lot of experience of accidental stays at African brothels, and an unforgettable time in Paris. However, 200 quid in Oxford, I'd be surprised - that gets you a night in the Randolph.

Hefzi · 21/06/2017 22:27

It's the 60/70 quid a night for central Oxford you have to watch out for...

Batteriesallgone · 21/06/2017 22:29

I'm still confused why spiral staircase = brothel. Can someone explain?

pinkmagic1 · 21/06/2017 22:33

That's hilarious yellowox. I didn't see that one but did see one that said that there was both male and female fluids on the bed sheets! Shock

Oooh, I'm in Oxford (not at a brothel) There are some dodgy looking "hotels" around some parts of Oxford

RubyRoseRing · 21/06/2017 22:39

After Morse and Lewis it's a wonder anyone gets out of an Oxford hotel without a major drama. Grin

I was in a weird hotel in Norwich early this year. But it certainly wasn't this one!

angelnix · 21/06/2017 22:44

Is it The Museum Hotel?

ScrambledSmegs · 21/06/2017 22:46

Was it a 'boutique' hotel? At that price I doubt brothel, but I've had one or two odd experiences at smaller hotels. More down to the owners/managers being a bit eccentric than any dodginess, IYKWIM.

OxfordshireLass · 21/06/2017 22:51

I'm in Oxford. Off to look at hotels with only 2 reviews.

Elledouble · 21/06/2017 22:53

Just been poking about on TripAdvisor looking for it. Can't find it - disappointing Sad

YouWouldntLetItLie · 21/06/2017 22:55

Was it in fact a college, not the hotel you'd booked at all, and you'd bumped into a porter trying to scam you out of £200??

caffeinestream · 21/06/2017 22:57

The description of the Museum Hotel fits the bill - near a betting shop and with a spiral staircase!

OxfordshireLass · 21/06/2017 22:58

Museum Hotel? That has 2 trip advisor reviews and a spiral staircase. Looks ok from Telegraph review www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/destinations/europe/united-kingdom/england/oxfordshire/oxford/hotels/museum-hotel/

Website doesn't appear to be working though - perhaps they have some issues.

BringMeTea · 21/06/2017 23:05

Booking dot com reviews are more detailed and make mention of your issues minus being asked to leave and a trip to the cashpoint. Grin

SnickersWasAHorse · 21/06/2017 23:07

It does sound very odd. Where did you stay in the end OP?

Vagndidit · 21/06/2017 23:24

If it is the place in Norwich, I'll give you a wave, OP. I walk past that brothel nearly every day ;)

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 21/06/2017 23:32

My SIL lives in the Golden Triangle, and the MJB hovels are notorious. The owner is always in the EDP, looking like Alan B'stard.

KeiraKnightleyActsWithHerTeeth · 21/06/2017 23:51

My whole family are reading MJB reviews and in creases.

ImaLannister · 21/06/2017 23:53

I stayed in a swinger hotel not knowing it was one! I thought it was a normal hotel, drove by it for years n thought I'd love to stay there it looks so nice. It was called Roman Boutique hotel in Paphos, Cyprus.
So nice inside! It's bizarre, like a tomb Greek castle palace. It's red carpet all inside with naked Greek god statues everywhere. Gets onto the bedroom, n it has naked paintings all on the walls and a fully mirrored ceiling!
Lovely marble bathroom. Stayed with my good male friend there, as we were going out around Paphos for a change.
We was talking to lots of people at the bar, they must of thought we was right randy fuckers! 😂
Later found out they sell the rooms by the hour too. Fun place to go!
Honestly thought it was a normal hotel, we wasn't swingers. Check it out online.
