Arrived on business to city and decided to drop my bag before heading to conference . Booked hotel last minute . Wasn't cheap . Man meets me in street and takes bag showing me entrance to " hotel" next to door to betting shop . Ok a bit weird but I was in a hurry .i return later and let myself in with code and find my room is up 2 flights of a spiral staircase which I find hard to navigate ( won't go in to detail ) . So I ask weird guy who appears with bag if he had another room . He does - it's fine and I say I'll move to that one . Then he says he would prefer if I left . I'm now feeling a bit freaked out and think best to get the out of the place and away from weird guy . I ask him to reimburse me before I leave . He agrees then comes back and says his boss says no . I'm cross now and mention trip advisor - he then says he will pay me himself and gets me to accompany him to thencash point . He gets me the money and off he goes . Now in ianother hotel - but what the fuck was that all about - was it a brothel , should I get in tripadvisor anyway ???

Disastrou it's worth staying a night! The decor is crazy but nice! For years I was so intrigued driving past it.

PossumInAPearTree · 22/06/2017 18:56

Yes, please ask him why OP had to leave.

riceuten · 22/06/2017 19:05

None of this sounds innately dodgy, but I wasn't there so can't comment on the 'weird' man, the spiral staircase, or why he wanted you to leave when you swapped rooms. Why is this like a brothel?

LeannePerrins · 22/06/2017 19:14

How very odd. Is this the place next to the post office on St Aldates? Very handy for G&D ice cream...

AnathemaPulsifer · 22/06/2017 19:19

Seems legit. You don't get reviews like that on Booking.com if you're rubbish.

i would definitely think it was weird and probably would suspect someone renting rooms out that they shouldn't be but I don't think I'd ever have just thought.. I think it's a brothel haha

useristired · 22/06/2017 19:32

I've asked, I will let you know !

Mrsemcgregor · 22/06/2017 19:37

This thread brightened up my evening and I can't wait to find out why OP had to leave!!

Mustang27 · 22/06/2017 19:47

Ok so if that is genuinely the hotel and it's not dodgy why were you asked to leave??? Is it just me that's totally confused by this.

S4RA · 22/06/2017 20:11

Nothing makes sense?
Please explain!??

Imstickingwiththisone · 22/06/2017 20:12

Why did someone think the op was a spy?

justlliloleme · 22/06/2017 20:25

The plot thickens....

NoPressureNoDiamonds · 22/06/2017 20:34

OP = baffling; responses = hilarious.

Ginkypig · 22/06/2017 20:38

Well this thread hadn't really got any clearer since I last checked in.

Very funny stories though!

Hope your other hotel was comfortable op, do come back and share your opinions.

A friend of mine genuinely did stay in a brothel by mistake. She'd booked the "Hilton" in some small town in a country and Asia, and yeah - it was basically a brothel. She said the girls there were really nice, she spent the evening hanging out with them and they politely declined (on her behalf) men interested in her services saying it was her night off.

I accidentally dined in a stripper restaurant in Bolivia, on a date with a holiday fling, about twenty years ago. We didn't notice the catwalk at first, and it was only when the place started filling up with men, all of a certain age, all arriving round about the same time, that it dawned on us what sort of floor show was about to commence. We ate up and left in rather a hurry. The holiday romance did not go anywhere. Grin

Great thread. I looked up The Beeches in Norwich on TripAdvisor. This is the latest review, posted yesterday but seems to relate to a stay in December which is odd in itself. One star, needless to say. Grin

DO NOT STAY HERE
Where to start...... Over the past 20 years I have probably stayed in hundreds of hotels through my job and thought I'd seen the lot. On entering the "hotel" I was greeted by semi naked eastern European gentleman shadow boxing/doing press ups in the corridor to my room. After I negotiated my way past him I got to my room which was absolutely boiling, no problem I'll just turn the radiator off. Nope, it was broken and stuck on the highest setting. Ok, I'll open the window. I say window, there's no glass just wood painted white. So, Windows open (I'm on the ground floor) within 10 minutes 2 people had popped there head in looking for John or Bobby. Right, Windows shut now and even for December the heat was unbearable especially whilst trying to sleep, fully clothed I might add due to the bed sheets being spattered with various stains. At 1am I was awoken by somebody creeping around outside my window then at 4am I was awoken again this time by the chatter of a policemans radio outside my window. Oh, I also forgot the bath was still full from previous occupant I assume. This is the first review I've ever written and it's more of a warning, I had to stay due to work and it was only 1 night. Got a nice 60 pound parking ticket a few weeks later as a memento of my stay aswell. Anyone who gives this place more than 1 star is obviously an employee. I've stayed in some awful places but this is by far the worst.

This is the weirdest thread! Still don't know why op was asked to leave or why she thought it was a brothel - I hope all will become clear...

Want2bSupermum · 22/06/2017 21:51

Nothing as bad as the hotel I had to stay in when visiting oil sites around Yuba City California. The hotel room had a jacuzzi in the middle of the room. I called my boss and told him I was terrified and could not sleep in the room. He laughed and said there was no way we were staying in this hotel (it was a days inn). He drove us to Sacramento and we stayed at a proper hotel.

That Kings Hotel is freaking awesome! My mum and dad stayed there when I lived in Cyprus :)

clarabellb · 22/06/2017 22:27

Waiting patiently for useristired's update Wink

salsah · 22/06/2017 22:29

This is literally the funniest thread I have read in ages - even funnier if you then move onto the trip advisor reviews - pure genius!

Cab65 · 22/06/2017 22:40

I actually did stay in a brothel in France once, we called into a bar for a drink and some food, then we asked if there was a nearby hotel the landlady said they had rooms to let so we followed her upstairs the room she showed us into was obviosly someone's bedroom ( hers I think) it had clothes toiletries etc. and all night people were coming and going beyond the door which had no lock, but we were so tired that we decided to hope for the best and we left very early in the morning before anyone else was up. It felt like an adventure at the time.

Ceto · 22/06/2017 22:53

I liked this five star review of The Beeches -

"helpful doorman, great management, opaque views, a set of knives for self preservation, quiet fellow guests, a kettle for if the toilet blocks, a toaster, plenty of bed space, an abundance of floor space, some stairs and a security chain on the door."

Very excited about useristired knowing the owner - I hope they do report back!
