Arrived on business to city and decided to drop my bag before heading to conference . Booked hotel last minute . Wasn't cheap . Man meets me in street and takes bag showing me entrance to " hotel" next to door to betting shop . Ok a bit weird but I was in a hurry .i return later and let myself in with code and find my room is up 2 flights of a spiral staircase which I find hard to navigate ( won't go in to detail ) . So I ask weird guy who appears with bag if he had another room . He does - it's fine and I say I'll move to that one . Then he says he would prefer if I left . I'm now feeling a bit freaked out and think best to get the out of the place and away from weird guy . I ask him to reimburse me before I leave . He agrees then comes back and says his boss says no . I'm cross now and mention trip advisor - he then says he will pay me himself and gets me to accompany him to thencash point . He gets me the money and off he goes . Now in ianother hotel - but what the fuck was that all about - was it a brothel , should I get in tripadvisor anyway ???

Ha loving all the Norwich people on this thread! 🙋🏻

modelthroughit · 21/06/2017 20:05

The page for this MJB hotel on booking dot com says 5 people are currently looking at it. What are the chances they're all MNers?!

SittingAround1 · 21/06/2017 20:05

Just read some of the MJB Norwich reviews in trip advisor. Very funny

hmcAsWas · 21/06/2017 20:05

Stick to the familiar hotel chains in future for business trips!

Op?

oprahfan · 21/06/2017 20:10

Here's a great one in Doncaster. I did look up that place in Norwich....this one in Donny is like The Ritz compared to MJB!!!! I read terrible TA reviews, highly entertaining. Any word from OP yet?

My very respectable, professional friend was once refused the key to her Premier Inn room at midnight as the receptionist decided she was a prostitute! He kept saying we've told you lot we won't let you in, she was so bemused. She kept repeating but my husband and kids are asleep in there? He said he was phoning the police and she said good, you're refusing me access to my family and possessions, go ahead. Only then did he seem to twig she wasn't actually a prostitute and let her have her key.

If it was Norwich, everyone in Norfolk knows which hotel.

I've lived in norwich for 4 years and norfolk for 20 years and I don't know. I feel so left out Grin

LIZS · 21/06/2017 20:14

We once stayed in a hotel in Paris. There was cash in various currencies left in the drawers and the door was opened part way through the night.

🐒

Assburgers · 21/06/2017 20:16

The thing I don't get, is giving a bloke your bag, then parting ways presumably? Then meeting back up again at the room? So there are multiple ways to the room? So you could maybe have avoided the spiral staircase?

So many questions. Plz come back.

squizita · 21/06/2017 20:16

Oh my gosh MJB.

Is there still that hotel over what was Boss Hogs on Prince of Wails. That was a dodgy den if ever I saw one!

WarriorsDance · 21/06/2017 20:18

There's some amusing autocorrects in the reviews

"and at top of stairs there was badly fitted carotene in the dull dreary looking hall"

Fair play, I always expect well fitted carotene in my hotels Smile

My friend and I did actually end up in booked into a brothel when we were very young back in 1996.
It was advertised in the pink pink paper and we assumed it was a gay friendly ( not gay , but obviously didn't care about the proprietors sexuality) B and B.
It was in Golders Green , my friend was so scared she phoned the police, who assumed we were teenage runaways and took us to the police station.
When we convinced them we were 18 they drove us to a premier inn.

FromAtoBin21months · 21/06/2017 20:21

squizita it's prince of wales road everything on there is dodgy

Areyoufree · 21/06/2017 20:25

Oh my god, that's what MJB is? We've always wondered what those dodgy looking buildings were... They're hotels? Seriously? We thought it might be a dodgy security firm.

SleepingTiger · 21/06/2017 20:25

Nobody (men) books a brothel, they book a sex worker, the destination is secondary. An accident could occur if there is a sex workers conference in same city.

This thread is a coded message, pretty sure of that.

Nettletheelf · 21/06/2017 20:25

I was one of the people looking at the MJB lodge on Tripadvisor.

Cripes! Sounds like quite an experience but I'd have to ask the people who booked in what they expected for £30. It was clearly going to be crap, wasn't it?

thenightsky · 21/06/2017 20:27

This thread reminds me of a 'hotel' we stayed at for one in Bethune, France. It will always be referred to as the Bethune Knocking Shop!

We were woken on the hour every hour as the ladies changed clients and spent 5 mins smoking and shrieking right outside our window all through the night.

Bethune Knocking Shop

WindyWednesday · 21/06/2017 20:27

The op never comes back in these threads.

Iflyaway · 21/06/2017 20:28

Did it have a red light over the door ?

Nah, only in the most famous RED LIGHT district in the world.... Grin

usually in the room anyway, not over the door

squizita · 21/06/2017 20:28

From Not much changes then haha. Last there about 2010 bit family from round there and went to uni there in the last century gasp.

MumBod · 21/06/2017 20:31

Nothing helpful to add, but the Trip Advisor reviews of The Beeches in Norwich are fricking hilarious Grin
