Arrived on business to city and decided to drop my bag before heading to conference . Booked hotel last minute . Wasn't cheap . Man meets me in street and takes bag showing me entrance to " hotel" next to door to betting shop . Ok a bit weird but I was in a hurry .i return later and let myself in with code and find my room is up 2 flights of a spiral staircase which I find hard to navigate ( won't go in to detail ) . So I ask weird guy who appears with bag if he had another room . He does - it's fine and I say I'll move to that one . Then he says he would prefer if I left . I'm now feeling a bit freaked out and think best to get the out of the place and away from weird guy . I ask him to reimburse me before I leave . He agrees then comes back and says his boss says no . I'm cross now and mention trip advisor - he then says he will pay me himself and gets me to accompany him to thencash point . He gets me the money and off he goes . Now in ianother hotel - but what the fuck was that all about - was it a brothel , should I get in tripadvisor anyway ???

I liked the 5 star review that said "it looked like a crack den"

Zaphodsotherhead · 21/06/2017 19:38

Hang on, OP. A man in the street met you and took your bag? And you handed it over? Weren't you running the risk that he took your bag and, well, ran? And was, in fact, nothing whatsoever to do with the 'hotel' in question?

MandateMandy · 21/06/2017 19:39

My work's travel agency once booked me into a "hotel" that was actually a homeless hostel. I was heavily pregnant and the only bathroom was to be shared between three different rooms. As I walked past one of the rooms the door was open and there were about six men sitting around drinking cider. I stayed for one night but my bf insisted on driving the length of the country to come and get me the next night so i didn't have to stay another night.

Come on Op. Give us a clue?

AgathaF · 21/06/2017 19:41

Award for most bizarre thread?

indigox · 21/06/2017 19:41

Absolutely none of that suggests brothel.

Mistletoekids · 21/06/2017 19:41

So curious!

quizqueen · 21/06/2017 19:42

Why did a man meet you in the street. Does he wait outside for guests all day? Where was reception? Didn't you check in? He asks you to leave. The man then gives you a refund from a cash point!!!!!! No hotel I've ever been to sounds like this one?

AddictedToDrPepper · 21/06/2017 19:43

Don't leave us hanging OP

.... aaaand now I have an image of an S&M brothel with sex cauldrons and racks on the wall Shock

I stayed in a brothel in Bangkok many years ago the night before I flew home.

I knew it was a brothel but the upper floors (tiny, sweaty attic rooms) were rented out to backpackers and the lower floors used for punters. I had a couple of people knock at my door in the early hours but was too scared to answer!

Now I'm off to google the Norwich brothel on TA Grin

gleam · 21/06/2017 19:44

That's dedication, DrPepper! 😂

MissBax · 21/06/2017 19:46

I'm guessing you've never been in a brothel before?

BettyOBarley · 21/06/2017 19:47

Haha OMG my poor parents have a boat in Stalham and stayed at one of the aforementioned hotels in Norwich one wknd in the winter....I don't think they've quite gotten over it yet. My dad reads Trip Advisor reviews religiously before booking anywhere now!! Grin

WarriorsDance · 21/06/2017 19:49

MJB Lodge Norwich?

KungFuPandaWorksOut16 · 21/06/2017 19:49

SquinkiesRule · 21/06/2017 19:52

Curious

HippyMama90 · 21/06/2017 19:54

I'm so curious!!

M0stlyBowlingHedgehog · 21/06/2017 19:55

I stayed in a very weird hotel in central Amsterdam once (yes, that bit of central Amsterdam) where all the rooms were "themed". Mine was kinky religious cell themed! What little I glimpsed through other doors suggested all the rooms were individually themed and just as strange. I don't think it was actually a brothel (though it was next door to one), but it was very odd. Clean and cheap, though, so not a total disaster, so long as one ignored the decor.

Sadly I don't think OP is coming back to tell us about the spiral stair.

Reow · 21/06/2017 19:56

OMG @HarrietKettleWasHere

How old are you? I wonder if we know each other in RL. Do you live there now? I live in a different East Anglian city now.

We went to Norwich 2 weeks ago for a dirty weekend! Not at MJB though.

SheSaidHeSaid · 21/06/2017 20:00

Oh my goodness. I've just googled that hotel in Norwich!!!

ilovemyCheebie · 21/06/2017 20:01

Lol, I do get why you would think that. I think you should trust your instinct on this, it sounds like it may well have been. And yes, mention it on trip adviser.

KeiraKnightleyActsWithHerTeeth · 21/06/2017 20:03

Is this a riddle?

Reow · 21/06/2017 20:03

The MJB hotels are pretty much frequented by junkies, prostitutes and teenagers who have nowhere to shag.

The windows are painted over and it's full of manky needles.
