I don't think I am, am I?

Come on responsible dog-owners, how are we going to stop this?

YANBU

I cannot see the point in picking it up and bagging it and then leaving it. Drives me mad and I have absolutely no idea on how to stop stupid people from doing stupid things, but I wish I did.

DISCLAIMER: I LIKE DOGS VERY MUCH

I was out on the moor with a friend (newly converted "dog-mummy") and she simply dropped a black plastic bag as we were walking.

I said "what are you doing" and she said "ah, what we do it, we pick it up on the way back"

I almost find this worse than just being a litter-lout because of the denial element. dogmummyzilla or something.

I've never understood why people go through the faff of bagging it and then leaving it. Someone told me it's because they leave it there to pick up on the way home rather than carrying the bag around the whole walk...

To be honest, I think the advice should change to 'flick it into the thicket' rather than putting it into a plastic bag that will never bloody rot down. Poo bags should be saved for pavement/city walking rather than in the countryside.

reawakeningambition · 21/06/2017 12:26

I think there are issue with "flicking" though? kids play off the path and I think it is not that good for the environment (I don't know why as sheep poo and horse poo is ok - maybe because dogs are carnivores?)

yanbu
it's a disgusting and dangerous habit.
just take it with you. or if you don't want to deal with an animal's excrements don't get a pet!

QuinionsRainbow · 21/06/2017 14:36

I said "what are you doing" and she said "ah, what we do it, we pick it up on the way back"

And did she/you? And if not, why didn't you remind her?

citychick · 21/06/2017 14:46

YADNBU

In the woods where we walk my parent's dogs there are poo bags full of poo hanging from tree branches. And lying on the paths.

It's disgraceful behaviour from dog walkers/owners.

Makes me very cross.

reawakeningambition · 21/06/2017 15:32

I think she then picked it up.

What I don't understand is that many dog owners seem to think this is some kind of official "thing to do".

it must be a terrible choking hazard for wildlife.

YANBU. It drives me absolutely mad. It's better to leave a poo than bag it and drop it in its bag!!

Wolfiefan · 21/06/2017 15:59

Why the fuck would you leave it? What if you don't come back the same way or can't find it? Or a grazing animal has eaten the back on the way back?
Stick and flick might work in very rural areas or where people don't stray off the path? Off a cliff?!?! (Or maybe not if people could be below!)
I have a dog. I bag. Store full bag inside a dicky bag to leave my hands free. And bin.

gandalfspants · 21/06/2017 16:55

It gives me the rage. On the moors / middle of the woods I'd probably leave it if it was well off the path. On the path or in the park or well used fields bloody take it with you until you find a bin (stick and flick I've tried but I'm rubbish and it's easier to pick it up imo).

I've seen it hanging from trees in the woods. Maybe they intended to get it on the way back but forgot? I doubt it.

InDubiousBattle · 21/06/2017 17:00

I wish they wouldn't leave little bags of shit anywhere. Along one particularly popular stretch of canal near me there are bags of shit all over, on there he floor, hung in trees like Shitty baubles.......I know they don't all get picked up because there's often squashed ones on the floor. It's worse than not picking it up at all because it can't even be washed away by rain.

InDubiousBattle · 21/06/2017 17:01

I would also like the arsehole who keeps putting the Shitty bags into my re cycling bin to stop that too.

CruCru · 21/06/2017 17:03

There's a site called LoveCleanStreets where you can report all dogshit / graffiti etc to any council in the UK. They even have an app which you can download onto your phone.

If you report every bit of dogshit / dog poo bag left, they will realise how much of a problem it is.

FruBayerischOla · 21/06/2017 17:09

I wish people wouldn't leave bags of dog shit anywhere. I live in an Inner London borough. Dog shit bags are left in the kerb for parking cars to squish, at the side of the pavement near front walls, in people's front hedges, hung in the trees - some dirty fucker even leaves their dog shit bags in our dustbin - but you name it they'll do it. And we live in a naice area Angry
