I don't think she was going to stop her child going, but felt it was a bit ott.

If the bus goes at 6.30am and returns at 9pm, I imagine they will have a wee/breakfast stop on the way, a packed lunch there AND a wee/dinner stop on the way home.

good point Aloha

nikkie · 21/03/2007 20:44

The only times I have eaten in McD were on school trips
Our yearly trips to the theatre usually include McDonalds (only place big enough for everyone )and last year we went out for the day and the pupils chose McD (16-19 yos w/SN so familiar territory to some)

I would sent my kids with packed lunch/breakfast and say if they want they can have one meal.Though dds are quite anti-McDs anyway.

My question really is "Isn't there a nearer science museum?" Fancy living in Sydney and doing such an enormous coach trip.

robinpud, are you awake yet?
Look how many replies you got!!

Lwatkins · 22/03/2007 01:15

What happened to the good old days on school trips where you just took your own packed lunch, and then had 50p to spend on some sweets at the end of the day? Oh they were the days

robinpud · 22/03/2007 05:33

Gingerbear- your point about the availability of roadside food is a good one . We haven't driven too far south so don't know the road, but where we have driven we have noticed that there is a lot of road and not many stopping options.

I am no food nazi so will obviously let her go and if she wants both meals to be Maccas- fine. If she wants to take a packup with very large icepack then that's fine.
I think it's just a shame that this is the reality of the situation.

Mcdonalds is a hell of a hot potato on mumsnet.. couldn't resist seeing what others might think.
i wonder what the britpack would think about using buses without belts or charging parents extra for a bus with belts.. that could be another thread... dd went to netball last week with the boys footie team sitting on the floor and not a single person strapped in .. much worse than the mcDonalds issues...

For that length of journey I would be wanting a seatbelt for my child, and willing to pay extra.

To go to a footie game etc. I would be much more relaxed (though not to the point of being happy about her not even getting a seat. Buses haven't been safety tested with crash test dummies in the aisle.)

I got a coach transfer in Melbourne from airport to hotel. On the way there ds had a seatbelt and his booster, on the way back no seatbelt, but i still put him on his booster. One of the adults was complaining - but it was a bus and a 20 minute trip.

Actually horses do vomit...but if they do you know they are a gonner as it probably means they have a twisted gut.

That's what happened to the pony my uncle bough me when I was a child.

ScummyMummy · 22/03/2007 12:14

Oh blu. How tragic.

Greenshoots · 22/03/2007 12:16

Oh no Blu, how horrendous. I had a pony when I was little too, I would have been devastated if something so awful had happened to him.

Blu · 22/03/2007 12:31

It was horrible.

I don't think it should be taken as evidence one way or the other as to whether robinpud's dd should be allowed to go on the school trip, though!

The things you learn on MN. I didn't know about rabbits. One more thing to worry about....

steinermum · 22/03/2007 12:40

If a substantial number of other parents feel as you do you might be able to get the school to change its plans. If you're a lone voice it would probably do more harm than good to stop her going. Put your feelings about the matter in writing to the school.
