To throw away the mystery sausages I found in the freezer?

We have a chest freezer. Last week I ventured out to it, and out of nowhere, a huge pack of sausages had appeared. Something like 24, bright pink, "value" £5 for the whole pack, sausages.

I'm not precious about food, in fact I've been busily trying out home brand versions of every thing, using up our pantry stuff, and generally cutting down on expensive fluff.

BUT. In a previous life/job I learnt way too much about animal husbandry, and have been left with a fear of processed/value meat products.

We nearly always have organic or at least free range. I have a local shop that keeps an area for reduced meat, and I get it all there. Aannyyway.

I'm pretty sure that dh will have brought home leftovers from a cub camp/bonfire, or thought they looked a bargain when walking past the shops.

Aibu to chuck them straight in the bin? He'll be more than peeved.

YANBU. Yuck.

But yuabu to know enough to not eat rubbish meat but carry on eating free range organic meat. Hardly any difference.

lborgia · 19/06/2017 08:09

Babs as in I should be vegetarian?

Of course you would be unreasonable. Surely your husband is allowed to have food that he wants (for whatever reason) in the house?

How would you feel if he dumped your free range organic chicken because he didn't want it?

BewtySkoolDropowt · 19/06/2017 08:21

And as you don't know why they are there, it might be that a neighbour doesn't have room in their freezer and asked if your husband could keep them in yours till they did..

tickwhitetick · 19/06/2017 08:42

Yes ywbu to bin food that your husband would eat

NicolasFlamel · 19/06/2017 08:45

Yes ywbu to chuck food that isn't yours. Don't eat it if you don't want to. What he eats isn't your business.

Dawnedlightly · 19/06/2017 08:45

Once you've established that they're from your husband make him cook them up and give them to your dog or a neighbour's. I agree with your feelings about cheap meat but the animals are dead now and chucking the food away is the ultimate in bad husbandry.

dudsville · 19/06/2017 08:45

I wouldn't have bought it either but I think it's awful to throw it away. That animal died. Ask your oh if he'd like to work his way through them. If not then ask your friends, family, neighbours, etc.

dudsville · 19/06/2017 08:46

Ooh yeah, dogs that's a good idea.

lborgia · 19/06/2017 08:46

Err, Idiot, are you saying I deprive my dh of value brand sausages Grin Had not even thought of the that. I'll ask him.

Won't be neighbours, so I'm not binning some else's supper.

Good idea, I'll offer them for the dogs next door. Thanks for that, I was dithering because throwing out edible food is not something I'd do easily.

What my husband eats is "none of my business" Confused Well if it wasn't he would be very thin by now. I can't remember the last time he had a meal that I hadn't planned/cooked/shopped for. ..unless on a long hike. He buys his own trail mix!

Oysterbabe · 19/06/2017 08:54

I wouldn't eat them, just because they'll be gross, but I'd cook them for my husband if he wanted them.

DramaInPyjamas · 19/06/2017 09:01

£5 for 24 sausages isn't value brands though - so they may not highest quality, but not exactly rubbery rubbish either

lborgia · 19/06/2017 09:08

Sorry Drama - I was doing a currency conversion. .def bottom of the heap sausages here in Oz, but our food is tons more expensive usually.
