AIBU to go topless at the local outdoor swimming pool?

It's a glorious day & I'm at the local outdoor pool. It was a right hassle getting here (3 children under 5, queue to get in etc.) but now I'm here it's amazing! HOWEVER realised I've forgotten my bikini top!!! Not wearing a bra so can't use that instead. Going back for a bikini top isn't an option (it's a long round trip, would have to pay/queue again yadayadayada). This has made me think - Could I go topless? Im desperate for a swim and don't care about other people seeing my breasts. I'm not English and where I'm from going topless is more common. But here none of the women are topless.

Is it against the law? Would I be told off?

Would you go topless and if not why not?

I'm puzzled at the posters who think I'm bragging... My life really isn't that amazing (I have twins and a preschooler ffs, that should say it all!).

Wish I could pm HQ a pic of myself right now to prove I'm for real!

I don't really have an opinion of whether or not women should be free to go topless at the pool (although I wouldn't - I prefer my bosoms to be controlled, much I imagine as some men prefer not to have their cock and balls swinging about. It's a comfort thing). But can someone please explain to me why not being able to go topless in areas that men can is an example of misogyny?

I get that people don't like breasts being seen as sexual (I disagree - even before Page 3 they still weren't just about feeding babies). But is that misogynistic?

Having given this the briefest of thinks, I wonder if it's different on beaches because beaches tend to be larger spaces than lidos.

PollyPerky · 18/06/2017 13:43

*@Vestal*Are you being smugly proud that the UK is more sexist than Scandinavia?

Can I suggest you get yourself a sense of humour?
They might sell them at Poundland.

Notknownatthisaddress · 18/06/2017 13:43

@JacquesHammer

Viva la sisterhood, huh?

Ah yes, the much talked about, none existent sisterhood?! Wink

youarenotkiddingme · 18/06/2017 13:46

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest if you did.
It's not the done thing here but I'm not sure of the legalities tbh.

But having spent years holidaying in south of France and living in the canaries I'm so totally meh about the whole thing.

Although the past few years I've gone to Majorca I've been surprised there's not been as manly topless woman as previously European beaches have had.
Maybe the Brits are prides abroad too?!

augustusglupe · 18/06/2017 13:46

YYABVU but good luck Grin

Ilovebaconbutimonadiet · 18/06/2017 13:46

YANBU. Jesus Christ if you want to go topless you should be able to. I hope you did.

SugarnetMum · 18/06/2017 13:48

It would be fine abroad but in the UK and alike bodies are such a 'oooh' oh my god thing, wow a pair of breasts god for bid you might have them out! Big bad boobs :S UK people are weird about bodies.

IHateUncleJamie · 18/06/2017 13:49

Ilovebacon (great name btw) if pool rules prohibit it then the OP would have been booted out.

WanderingTrolley1 · 18/06/2017 13:51

So, OP, what did you do?

JacquesHammer · 18/06/2017 13:52

Ah yes, the much talked about, none existent sisterhood

Well it exists for me - because my first thought on a thread like this wouldn't be to make sneery comments regarding the OP's breastfeeding, what she's wearing and the number of children she has.

Notknownatthisaddress · 18/06/2017 13:52

UK are so weird about bodies

Oh FFS no we're NOT. Hmm

Why do people keep generalising like this?!

Like someone said earlier in the thread, sometimes it's just about being comfortable, like a man wouldn't feel comfortable with his cock and bollocks dangling!

It doesn't mean people are weird about bodies! Confused

RebelRogue · 18/06/2017 13:52

@ComputerUserNotTrained what is the difference between female breasts and male breast, except for the fact that(not always) female breasts are bigger?
However one set is allowed to swing free on beaches,at pools,in cars,on the streets ,supermarkets etc, whereas the other MUST be covered up. Just look how outraged many posters are at just the idea of naked breasts at a pool.

AnniesTurn · 18/06/2017 13:55

Are you at brightlingsea lido?

If so I can confirm I have seen women topless and they weren't asked to put them away

I don't see why not either.

Very sexist for men to be able to and not women.

But I guess it's a blessing to avoid oglers.

I would if I wasn't overweight and didn't have F cup breasts.

Why are so many posters having thinly veiled troll hunting digs? Twins-not unheard of, breastfeeding without leaky boobs-not unheard of, forgotten top-definitely not unheard of (just back from swim and forgot to take any underwear!). Even all together, these are hardly remarkable.

AnyFucker · 18/06/2017 14:08

Midsummer madness Easter Smile

Maudlinmaud · 18/06/2017 14:14

Ffs High yep!

MrsPeelyWaly · 18/06/2017 14:15

Op, just clamp the twins to you like a pair of water wings. No one will no you're braless

MrsPeelyWaly · 18/06/2017 14:18

Wish I could pm HQ a pic of myself right now to prove I'm for real!

I think you can. Just take a selfie, save it, report your post then attach the selfie to the post

EB123 · 18/06/2017 14:20

It wouldn't bother me to see someone going topless at a lido. I don't see it as a big issue and would happily go topless(even with my massive boobs) but it isn't the done thing here.

AnnaT45 · 18/06/2017 14:27

I can't believe people wouldn't take their kids to a pool on a day like today. If OP is from a hot country a day like today really isn't that warm. I spent many a weekend on the beach as a child in a lot hotter.

I also much preferred not wearing a bra when breastfeeding!

I wouldn't got topless because it's not the done thing in the UK

OliviaStabler · 18/06/2017 14:37

YABU. Keep your tits under wraps.
