AIBU to go topless at the local outdoor swimming pool?

It's a glorious day & I'm at the local outdoor pool. It was a right hassle getting here (3 children under 5, queue to get in etc.) but now I'm here it's amazing! HOWEVER realised I've forgotten my bikini top!!! Not wearing a bra so can't use that instead. Going back for a bikini top isn't an option (it's a long round trip, would have to pay/queue again yadayadayada). This has made me think - Could I go topless? Im desperate for a swim and don't care about other people seeing my breasts. I'm not English and where I'm from going topless is more common. But here none of the women are topless.

Is it against the law? Would I be told off?

Would you go topless and if not why not?

Once you're in the pool who will see anyway? Unless you are doing some kind of ostentatious back stroke...

Our pool won't allow you to swim in a tshirt anyway. Unless it is tight fitting and light coloured.
Which would just have the effect of a saucy wet tshirt competition. Which would probably be worse!

Babbitywabbit · 18/06/2017 12:55

We're not pearl clutching OP. Nor are we impressed at your small pert unleaky breasts or your incredible ability to bf babies. You do what you like; the pool will no doubt be too packed for anyone to notice

Honestly the only thing that shocks me is that this is how you choose to spend a swelteringly hot summer day, either on a crowded poolside or bathing in other people's piss.

PovertyPain · 18/06/2017 12:55

😄 My first delete for troll hunting and lots more troll hunting after mine. Does that mean I get a medal? Biscuit

PovertyPain · 18/06/2017 12:56

Oops I mean 🏅😉😁

BigGreenOlives · 18/06/2017 12:56

I've been to Richmond open air pool (can't remember what it's called) and seen women sunbathing topless. Don't know if they went in the water or not, wasn't looking.

beepbeepImasheep · 18/06/2017 12:56

Wherever this amazing pool is, if the shop sells swimming goggles they will do a roaring trade if the OP does go topless.

Bluebellevergreen · 18/06/2017 12:57

Not in this country. In my home country though I don't think we do it in pools, we do it by the beach but not sure why we do differently

Can't believe how nasty people are being to the OP. You sound jealous 😒

OP is clearly French, thin, with perky breasts, beautiful twins and a handsome husband, go OP! #teamOP #freethenipples

Notknownatthisaddress · 18/06/2017 13:01

And yes I'm braless today! I have small boobs and I don't leak. I can only raise my eyebrows at the posters who think you can't breastfeed and be braless... not everyone who breastfeeds has giant leaking boobs!

It really doesn't matter what anyone thinks, or whether it is legal or not to go topless, if the pool has a policy that women are not allowed to go topless, the OP won't be allowed to swim topless. The local pool where I used to live didn't allow 'outdoor clothes' in the pool either, to stop people wearing grubby t-shirts and shorts into the water or clothes that went transparent when wet.

PurpleTraitor · 18/06/2017 13:06

When I was breastfeeding I rarely wore a bra. Access was easier if I didn't, so I usually wore a vest top, or if it was a dress, something a bit fitted around the chest. So that I can well believe.

There aren't any pools round here with 1:1 ratios. Never heard of such a thing. How do people go swimming?

I'd not go topless at the pool, no. Because of my own sense of privacy. Not prudery. Just, they are mine. If that makes sense.

I'd just wear the vest top instead. OP, tell us what you are actually wearing rather than what you aren't!

Babbitywabbit · 18/06/2017 13:13

Purple - I don't think many people mentioned a 1:1 ratio. It was that pools don't allow unaccompanied children into the water. This was before the OP mentioned her (gorgeous?) husband who will swim with the eldest while she bf all day in the sun. Although I think any swimming is hypothetical as the pool is clearly horrendously busy (she queued for hours) so it's probably a case of being packed like sardines in a pool of bodily fluids.

Meanwhile we're all jealous Grin

Breastffeding and no bra = serious leakage

It's almost like: and I maybe about to be controversial, but it's almost like many women have different experiences when breastfeeding. I never leaked after the day my milk came in.

HeteronormativeHaybales · 18/06/2017 13:14

I'm bf and I barely ever wear a bra.

Go in in your vest, OP. The hypocrisy infuriates me too, but tbh I'd prefer it if men covered up as well, in a rash vest or similar. And don't get me started on topless men outside the beach/pool Angry

She's using her nipples to work her phone
Why don't you have a baby over each breast and the toddler stand in front of your breasts and go fully nude? Grin Grin

IHateUncleJamie · 18/06/2017 13:15

TheMysteriousJackelope Thank you! Everyone blathering on about whether the OP should or should not do it when if the pool rules state "appropriate swimwear at all times", try swimming topless and you'll simply be ejected from the pool.

And btw OP IF the pool doesn't have a lost property, nor do they sell swimsuits, you wouldn't have to re-pay your entrance fee if you'd popped home - just ask for your hand to be stamped or something and they'll let you back in.

What a hoo-hah.

JacquesHammer · 18/06/2017 13:18

Not always. Why should it? Women experience breastfeeding in different ways.

Some of the other posts on this thread are really grim. Vive la sisterhood, huh?

SafeToCross · 18/06/2017 13:20

I once took toddler swimming, realised I had forgotten my swim costume. I ended up swimming wearing a black halterneck gest top I was luckily wearing, and a pair of my DH's boxer shorts that happened to be in the car. I got some funny looks for THAT ...

ememem84 · 18/06/2017 13:26

Ah thanks for explaining the ratio thing. No kids yet (ds1 due in sept) so no idea really.

The only outdoor pools near me are members only in hotels with the exception of a few pools build on the beach. A seaside open air beach pool would probably be ok for topless swimming. Hotel pool probably not.

BigDamnHero · 18/06/2017 13:27

Sorry, I'm in a funny mood today. Grin

nina2b · 18/06/2017 13:27

Urgh.

Just wondering if you are new to MN and AIBU. Your post is much too sensible and you are not showing any signs of being 'outraged' 😎

IrritatedUser1960 · 18/06/2017 13:30

it is just not acceptable in public pools hereYou could probably get away with it in France or Italy.
I couldn't care less personally but you will be asked to leave.

IrritatedUser1960 · 18/06/2017 13:31

I regularly go to nice family naturist clubs with pools and there it is fine.
