AIBU to go topless at the local outdoor swimming pool?

It's a glorious day & I'm at the local outdoor pool. It was a right hassle getting here (3 children under 5, queue to get in etc.) but now I'm here it's amazing! HOWEVER realised I've forgotten my bikini top!!! Not wearing a bra so can't use that instead. Going back for a bikini top isn't an option (it's a long round trip, would have to pay/queue again yadayadayada). This has made me think - Could I go topless? Im desperate for a swim and don't care about other people seeing my breasts. I'm not English and where I'm from going topless is more common. But here none of the women are topless.

Is it against the law? Would I be told off?

Would you go topless and if not why not?

If you think we are prudish try going topless in many other countries - immediate arrest.

Many people from different cultures/backgrounds and religions there - swimming in a public pool topless is a bit too much.

nocapes I need to ask re ratios. Should the op not go anywhere on nice days with 3 under 5's? Who polices ratios? Should thenpool not have let her in?

A friend of mine has 4 under 5 (almost 5, 3 and just over a year old twins). She regularly takes them out on her own because husband works. Should she not be doing this?

LockedOutOfMN · 18/06/2017 12:09

Yes you can be topless, OP.

CorbynsBumFlannel · 18/06/2017 12:09

I wouldn't do it myself - not confident enough and care too much about what others think. But it wouldn't bother me if someone else did. The British are prudish but also hate confrontation so I doubt you'd get more than a few raised eyebrows/sideward glances. I doubt it's illegal. I often see a few topless women on the beach even in Britain.

insancerre · 18/06/2017 12:09

Em
Not in a swimming pool no
They have rules about adults and children

WorraLiberty · 18/06/2017 12:10

No she can't Locked

So what? Yes, we all live under patriarchy, and it is worse in many countries than it is in the UK.
It is still damn wrong.

Unless you are male, in which case it is totally fine. Misogyny much?

CorbynsBumFlannel · 18/06/2017 12:11

Most public pools have a 1:1 ratio for non swimmers or children under 8. I wasn't allowed to take my 2 alone until my eldest was over 8 despite my children both being confident swimmers.

caffeinestream · 18/06/2017 12:11

@ememem84 most pools won't allow one adult to go in with three under 5's, no.

ViolentDelights · 18/06/2017 12:12

I'm breastfeeding and my boobs don't leak, ever. I bought a load of breastpads in anticipation of it but never had to use any of them. Still made enough milk to ebf (and dd is still feeding 2 and a half years old). Just lucky I suppose.

londonrach · 18/06/2017 12:12

Not in the uk. There usually rules saying as such. Put your t shirt on. Talk to swimming pool as maybe hire out costume, buy or lost property.

Suntrapped · 18/06/2017 12:12

You can try- lifegaurds might not say anything. My friend went topless at a Lido type place and nobody objected, but she's a AA with athletic figure so in her words they probably 'thought she was a teenage boy'

I don't see why it matters really. I couldn't care less if people go topless.

Wow, way to stereotype an entire nation Confused

She's not on the beach and no-one other than the staff needs to 'confront' her, which clearly they would because that's their job.

Babbitywabbit · 18/06/2017 12:13

It's not about not going out. I used to take mine out alone when I had 3 under 5. It's about safety regulations and not allowing unaccompanied small children in water. And wtf is the point of queuing to spend a boiling hot day at a crowded outdoor pool when you're going to spend your entire day bf twins while a bored hot pre school child hangs around.

(Tho I suspect OP will quickly invent another accompanying adult who can't possibly pop out and get a bikini top. I expect this crowded outdoor pool is in a wilderness with no shops in a 100 mile radius. Or something. I too call bull shit. Either that or she's batshit crazy to spend a day like this)

While I do think that the totally illogical disparity between how male and female nipples are being regarded in this country is ridiculous and of course a product of patriarchy and misogyny, I suspect that if the OP actually wen to for it she would be made to feel SO uncomfortable that she would soon cover up.
'tis shite, but today that is how it is.

Op, move to the South of France - tittage everywhere and nobody bats an eyelid.

CorbynsBumFlannel · 18/06/2017 12:15

Just to make it clear for the hard of thinking I don't think that all British people are prudish and hate confrontation. Nor are all Europeans fine with toplessness but different countries do have different cultural attitudes/expectations.

NoCapes · 18/06/2017 12:16

It's not about just going anywhere ememem swimming pools have ratios for parents to children (our local pool is 1:1 under 7) so if a lone adult rocked up with 3 under 5 then no they wouldn't be allowed in

BrightBlueStar · 18/06/2017 12:17

Omg I love the fact some of you think I made this shit up! Sorry but this is actually my life😂

To clarify: I do have my husband with me. We take it in turns to swim with my older one. I guess I could do the 45 min round trip for my top and pay another £5 entry... but I just think... why the hell should I?! They are just breasts!

And yes I'm braless today! I have small boobs and I don't leak. I can only raise my eyebrows at the posters who think you can't breastfeed and be braless... not everyone who breastfeeds has giant leaking boobs!

Anyway off to enjoy the the pool now but I'll check in later.

It really shouldn't be a problem. What a suppressed backward thinking country we live in

WorraLiberty · 18/06/2017 12:19

'Hard of thinking'? Confused

Your post didn't need any thought. It was right there on the thread.

Babbitywabbit · 18/06/2017 12:20

OP - why not do backstroke with a twin hanging off each nipple? Multi tasking at its finest Grin

MirandaWest · 18/06/2017 12:20

This does sound a bit implausible, but it is interesting considering why man with bare chest fine, woman with bare chest not fine

WorraLiberty · 18/06/2017 12:20

Assuming you're wearing a vest top/t.shirt type thing, can you not just get in with that on?
