Has anyone from Ireland ever bought the termination pill online? (sensitive)

Okay so, before anyone starts saying about safety.. I know. There is only one safe /secure site that you are meant to buy medical abortion pills online from if you are from a country where abortion is unfortunately restricted. ie. Ireland, Malta, and Poland.

Womenonweb, the only site which is recommended and the pills are sent by a doctor along with a previous online consultation.

Anyway, my huge problem is this. If you've ever done this and live in R.O.I, did you send the package to Belfast and pick it up at a post office? Or did you send the package to a parcel motel in Belfast / NI and it was sent to your local parcel motel?

I'm having huge trouble sorting this out and the post office in belfast don't even have an option to talk to someone to ask :(

It is quite urgent also. I'm nearly 8 weeks. The medical abortion only works up to 10 weeks..I don't want anyone to judge me or write anything horrible in the comments, I'm trawling the internet for hours/ days trying to find more information about the best way to get the package delivered. Post office or parcel motel? The last thing I need is the parcel being seized or lost.

Thank you x

What an absolutely fucking disgraceful state of affairs. My heart goes out to you, OP.

Whosthebestbabainalltheworld · 18/06/2017 17:50

An Post have a UK address and delivery service to your local post office. I'd probably try them instead of parcel motel.

Flamingoprincess1212 · 18/06/2017 17:52

HI OP
I'm in England so not sure what help I can be (will try anything you need, please pm me if you think I can help you)
Have you contacted Marie Stopes?

They're on this web address:
www.mariestopes.org.uk

And have a 24hr advice line with an ROI number:
1 800 200 374

Good luck! All the love in the world. I am so sorry.

TheHeraldOfAndraste · 18/06/2017 18:06

flamingo are Marie Stopes accepting Irish women again?
They were having to turn them away in February. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/abortion-irish-women-uk-british-clinics-turn-away-marie-stopes-a7567046.html

MaisieDotes · 18/06/2017 18:27

peachgreen I've done it myself so it is do-able.

BeTheHokeyMan · 18/06/2017 18:33

You use the 'post restante' (sp?) service at Belfast post office do not use your roi address or a parcel motel please feel free to pm me if you want more advice I've been through this before with friends and family

Flamingoprincess1212 · 18/06/2017 18:42

HI theherald yes they're taking Irish women for reduced fees again, furthermore taking them or not, I'm sure I read that they'll turn them away from the advice line.
But yes website seems clear they're accepting Irish women! Xxx

Flamingoprincess1212 · 18/06/2017 18:43

I meant to say they'll never turn them away from the advice line

ihearttc · 18/06/2017 18:43

Like other posters if there is anything I can do then please ask...can have it sent to my house and then on to you if that would help?

Only thing I will say (and please don't think Im saying this lightly) is if you take the tablets can you access medical care?

I had Medical Termination when I was 21 (on my 21st Birthday actually) and I was supposed to take the second tablet in hospital where it would be "managed". It actually happened before I took the second tablet but Im worried about how you would cope if things don't go according to plan.

sashh · 18/06/2017 19:05

Have you ruled out the surgical option. You don't need "a few days" as suggested above. You can be over and back in a working day.

But you can't have a chemical abortion in a working day. The pills have to be taken in a clinic in England (no idea about Scotland and Wales) they can't send you home with the pessary.

DixieFlatline · 18/06/2017 19:20

I'm so very sorry it's this difficult for you to access something that should be a simple human right, OP. Flowers

MaisieDotes · 18/06/2017 20:00

I know that sash

What I'm saying is that going the surgical route doesn't necessarily mean being away for several days, it can just be over and back within one day.

Sometimes the whole "making up a lie about where you're going and why" is a bit daunting so people decide to go the medical route for that reason.

It may or may not be a factor for the OP, she hasn't said.

KittyandTeal · 18/06/2017 20:04

I have no advice but I'm utterly horrified you are having to do this.

I'm so sorry you do not have access to healthcare that trusts you are able to do what is right for you.

ASNMara · 18/06/2017 21:07

Hi there sorry for coming late and thanks for the person who posted my message earlier. I just wanted to give you all some information as there's a number of things above that are incorrect. Not judging - the rules change all the time and it's hard to know what's up.

I am the director of www.asn.org.uk. We help women travel to England or elsewhere and give info on the two reputable organisations that send early medical abortion pills to Ireland and N Ireland and any country where abortion is against the law - www.womenhelp.org and www.womenonweb.org. Both charities ask for a donation of about E70 for the pills. Both charities ask for a NI and RoI address. Neither charity will send the pills to England. They only send to countries where abortion is against the law.

While four people have been charged in NI around pills, one was turned in by her roomates and the other three by their GPs. No one has been charged from pills seized by customs.

More pills are being seized by customs. It's a risk.

Early medical abortion pills can be used up to 9 or 10 weeks gestation. Both WoW and WHW send extra misoprostol with the pills in case you need to do a little extra miscarriage management. Both WoW and WHW can give advice about this.

if you are in RoI, there's a group called Need Abortion Ireland that can help with a care package of pants and pads. In some cases they have been able to help with the E70 donation, but actually if you really don't have E70 you can send less; it's a donation not a charge.

There is only ONE charity helping with the cost of travelling to England, and that is www.asn.org.uk. I wish there were several.

If you travel to the UK, www.bpas.ie and www.nupas.co.uk/overseas/ are less expesive than Marie Stopes. With planning, an abortion under 14 weeks can usually be done in one day (provided you live near a good airport, so Cork, Belfast or Dublin) and will cost about E500. If you cannot afford to travel, ASN can help you arrange the cheapest flight and travel and assess your financial need for a grant.

I think that's all! You all are such a great community - it's so awesome to see so many people chime in to help OP.

user1497403588 · 18/06/2017 21:30

Sorry, lots of posts.

Just to confirm, It is allowed to be delivered to the UK/NI but not allowed to be delivered to ROI.

I'll be using the post office.

Op. Have you thought about travelling to England to terminate?
Be safe!

user1497403588 · 18/06/2017 21:37

Wow thanks everybody, everyone is being so supportive and helpful.. thanks so much for all your offers to post them to me, really amazing!

It is okay though, yes unfortunately we can't travel for a surgical abortion, not a major issue but money i suppose, and who would want to travel when you can get it ordered.. it would cost 500 for treatment, 100 for consultation, another 150 for flights and travel/taxis etc, then accomodation!...

will do the trip to belfast no problem, just wanted to make sure i wasn't missing anything regarding delivery. going to go with poste restante service seems the best recommendation. hopefully in years to come if I ever need to do this again Ireland will be ''allowed'' to choose as they wish...x

@ASNMara Thank you for everything you do to support women in NI and ROI.

user1497403588 · 18/06/2017 21:40

And just to people saying get it delivered to my house will be the same as NI, no, the website cannot deliver to Ireland, you are required to write down a NI address, a post office if you know nobody there.. unfortunately.

OP posts:
user1497403588 · 18/06/2017 21:43

Of course it would be 'more wise and easier' all around to just travel to the uk, not many people have a thousand euro at the drop of a hat while in a rush to get this thing going though. Especially when you can get it delivered for 70 euro and travel expenses to NI probably about 100 max.

OP posts:
Thekissbyklimt13 · 18/06/2017 21:46

I hope you can get it sorted out, my sympathies to you. I live in NI and used womenonweb previously - the first package was stopped by UK customs at the international parcelforce hub in Coventry. They re-sent another package which arrived a week later. I never heard anything from the police or customs and womenonweb advise that if you do, just deny ordering it. I don't know how much investigating they would do i.e. If they would go to all the bother of checking your computer history or credit card purchases though.

Flamingoprincess1212 · 18/06/2017 21:48

Op. I'm sorry for asking about travel. I saw it mentioned about grants and funding help, and wondered if that would be something for you. I was in no way suggesting you had to do it.
