Has anyone from Ireland ever bought the termination pill online? (sensitive)

Okay so, before anyone starts saying about safety.. I know. There is only one safe /secure site that you are meant to buy medical abortion pills online from if you are from a country where abortion is unfortunately restricted. ie. Ireland, Malta, and Poland.

Womenonweb, the only site which is recommended and the pills are sent by a doctor along with a previous online consultation.

Anyway, my huge problem is this. If you've ever done this and live in R.O.I, did you send the package to Belfast and pick it up at a post office? Or did you send the package to a parcel motel in Belfast / NI and it was sent to your local parcel motel?

I'm having huge trouble sorting this out and the post office in belfast don't even have an option to talk to someone to ask :(

It is quite urgent also. I'm nearly 8 weeks. The medical abortion only works up to 10 weeks..I don't want anyone to judge me or write anything horrible in the comments, I'm trawling the internet for hours/ days trying to find more information about the best way to get the package delivered. Post office or parcel motel? The last thing I need is the parcel being seized or lost.

Thank you x

I can't believe you have to jump through such hoops in 2017. Good luck OP. Flowers

BeyondStrongAndStable · 18/06/2017 10:48

I hope you get it sorted asap op, it is disgusting that it is so hard to arrange this in a civilised country.

The abortion support network may be able to offer practical advice?
www.asn.org.uk/contact-us/

And (as I share it frequently!), here is the 'donate' link for everyone else reading... :)
www.asn.org.uk/donate/

BeyondStrongAndStable · 18/06/2017 10:52

Quick tip from me though - however you order, if it isn't prohibitively expensive (and there are no restrictions) order two. You may save a friend or relative from this worry in the future.

Fuzzywuzzy1 · 18/06/2017 10:53

I would get it sent to your house.

There's no difference between your house and getting it sent to NI.

Alternatively there are several charities which pay for the abortion, travel costs and accommodation for women who want an abortion and need to come to the UK for it.

sashh · 18/06/2017 10:53

Have you actually contacted women on the web or abortion support network?

There are some incredibly brave women in NI who will use their address for the pills to be delivered.

I don't understand why you think Belfast is a better option to ROI delivery. They actually prosecute people up here for getting the abortion pill sent. Or am I missing something?

International postage? The pills would go through customs.

Rossigigi · 18/06/2017 10:54

I'm so sorry you are going through this. Stay strong

DJBaggySmalls · 18/06/2017 10:54

BeyondStrongAndStable beat me to it, order 2 or 3 and have them delivered to separate addresses. But do be careful about supplying friends, its very illegal.
Best wishes, and I'm very sorry you have to go through this in 2017 Flowers

MrsDustyBusty · 18/06/2017 10:54

Can you contact the retailer and ask them what women using their services from Ireland normally do? I'm sure they'd be able to help.

Fuzzywuzzy1 · 18/06/2017 10:58

I don't think it's 'bad'. Many people are against abortion. I respect Ireland (which is a catholic country) not agreeing with it.

It's not one of those things that is universally agreed to be morally right.

Even though I'm not religious myself. I have no issue with others no my agreeing with it.

Fuzzywuzzy1 · 18/06/2017 11:00

I'd definitely try and get one delivered to your house.

It's likely it will arrive.

I agree with buying several and having them delivered to different addresses.

lorelairoryemily · 18/06/2017 11:02

I'm Irish too and horrified that you have to go through this in this day and age. I'd just get it sent to your house if I were you op, I'm so sorry for youFlowers

messofajess · 18/06/2017 11:02

Do you have someone in the U.K. You could send to as well who could maybe repackage? Is that too dodgy?

C4priSun · 18/06/2017 11:06

Maybe it would be safer to just travel mainland U.K. ?

VestalVirgin · 18/06/2017 11:06

The fact that Ireland violates women's human rights makes me so fucking angry.

OP, I can't offer you any advice, as I'm not in Ireland, but intuitively agree with those who say to order three packages. And not to your home address.

And if you don't get the pills in time, contact a charity to travel abroad.

Good luck!

(Do they imprison women who order pills? In that case, it might be safer to travel abroad immediately and get the pills in the UK or Europe.)

C4priSun · 18/06/2017 11:10

Travelling to the Uk makes more sense all round. Safer and legal.

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 18/06/2017 11:12

Let me just clarify Fuzzywuzzy ...Ireland is NOT a catholic country. We are secular. Or at least thats what the law says.

The f7+£%ng catholic church has had a stranglehold on our healthcare and education system for way too long.

namechange20050 · 18/06/2017 11:17

Op please google women on the web. Lots of good info from a service providing abortion pills to people in your situation. I hope you are ok.

Juliancopescat · 18/06/2017 11:17

Op as others have said, Get it sent to a Republic or Ireland address. It is much more likely to get seized in Northern Ireland under the UK system and there are currently women awaiting prosecution for this offence in the north. The customs in ROI might seize it but will not prosecute.

TheHeraldOfAndraste · 18/06/2017 11:19

If it would help OP I can ask Mara Clarke from ASN to contact you. I used to have a different username and posted prolifically about this. I went through similar and ended up going down the travel to England route instead. Not judging at all. This is a horrible situation and you are brave.

Please PM me if you want to talk about anything. Flowers

HildaOg · 18/06/2017 11:23

To people who are saying she should travel... That's too expensive for some, between flights, trains, taxis, hotel and operation, you are talking about €1000. Much cheaper to get a pill delivered, it's perfectly safe and if anything goes wrong you can go straight to hospital. You won't be prosecuted in the Republic under any circumstances. They routinely prosecute in the North so it makes no sense to get it delivered there.

Branleuse · 18/06/2017 11:23

Wishing you all the best. Maybe it would be better to travel to England? x

C4priSun · 18/06/2017 11:26

If I can help with the travel costs PM me OP. We want what is best and what is safest for you x

NameNotANumber · 18/06/2017 11:27

This is obviously a stupid question but how does the postal system know what is in it? Or do they just go by the sender's address on the envelope?

Could someone in the UK order it for you and get it sent to you to get round it?

Abortion law in Ireland is fucking awful, women should have choice over their body.

Miami81 · 18/06/2017 11:27

Op I am so sorry that you have to go through this. I am Irish and it makes me so mad. I live in the U.K. Though.
Just some practical advice, I have had to take the pills for medical management of two miscarriages. First one all went as they said it would, second I had to take the pills twice as first round didn't work effectively. Agree with people who say to order more then one for that reason.
There is a thread about the practical management of miscarriage on here that is very useful. Lots of detailed advice particularly for those who have had to take the pills. I know it's a different scenario for you, but the practical stuff and the medical things that you have to, have to watch out for. Temp, excessive pain, losing too much blood etc.
Again so sorry that our countries laws mean that you have to go through this with no support. Here to hold your hand. All the best.

TheHeraldOfAndraste · 18/06/2017 11:29

There are probably people who would be willing to receive the pills on your behalf and post them on to you. I know travelling is expensive, I went at around 11 weeks and it cost me around £300 even with ASNs help.
