Has anyone from Ireland ever bought the termination pill online? (sensitive)

Okay so, before anyone starts saying about safety.. I know. There is only one safe /secure site that you are meant to buy medical abortion pills online from if you are from a country where abortion is unfortunately restricted. ie. Ireland, Malta, and Poland.

Womenonweb, the only site which is recommended and the pills are sent by a doctor along with a previous online consultation.

Anyway, my huge problem is this. If you've ever done this and live in R.O.I, did you send the package to Belfast and pick it up at a post office? Or did you send the package to a parcel motel in Belfast / NI and it was sent to your local parcel motel?

I'm having huge trouble sorting this out and the post office in belfast don't even have an option to talk to someone to ask :(

It is quite urgent also. I'm nearly 8 weeks. The medical abortion only works up to 10 weeks..I don't want anyone to judge me or write anything horrible in the comments, I'm trawling the internet for hours/ days trying to find more information about the best way to get the package delivered. Post office or parcel motel? The last thing I need is the parcel being seized or lost.

Thank you x

Definitely get it sent to an ROI address. I hope you are okay. Like Herald, I've gone down the travelling to England route. I've also supported and even accompanied other women who have done so. If you need someone to talk to, you can also pm me.

VestalVirgin, I don't want to be picky, and it's not the point of the thread, but 'Ireland' doesn't violate women's human rights. The Irish government does, certainly, and it disgusts me. Believe me, I've done plenty of marching and campaigning and letter writing and lobbying my local TDs. Please don't lump us all in to some homogeneous group and declare that 'Ireland' violates women's rights. The people of Ireland think many things, and lots of us think that women should have access to abortion. And actively fight for that right.

mallamloll · 18/06/2017 11:39

I live in belfast op. I'd be worried about police turning up at my door if I ordered to my house. As pp said is there anyone in England who can get it and redeliver to your address inside something

mallamloll · 18/06/2017 11:40

If it happened to me though I would just travel to England with a close friend under the disguise of a girly few days of something

BandeauSally · 18/06/2017 11:44

WRT why send to NI instead of ROI, from what I recall on a discussion last year, I think whoever sends the pills won't send them to ROI but will send to NI. Maybe I have that wrong but I remember talk about it last year.

peachgreen · 18/06/2017 11:44

OP I'm so sorry you're going through this. It's inhumane and barbaric that women have to do this.

Please make sure you're with someone when you take the pills as it will be painful (not unbearable but it's best to be prepared). There are lots of good threads on medical management of miscarriage / medical abortion on Mumsnet, read some of those beforehand for some tips.

I really hope it works out okay for you.

BandeauSally · 18/06/2017 11:45

Which is an option if you have the money.

This post is from Mara Clarke of Abortion Support Network. There are TWO reputable providers of early medical abortion pills, which are on the World Health Organisations' Essential Medicines List. Womenonweb is one and WomenHelp.org is the other. WomenHelp.org are better at responding to emails. Womenhelp.org will also allow you to fill out the consultation form without giving an NI address although they will ask you for a Poste Restane or Parcel Motel. It can take 7-10 days for the pills to come but in the US and the UK the pills are often used up until 10 weeks. Finally, if you are unable to access the pills or would prefer to travel to England, please contact www.asn.org.uk / [email protected] for information and, if you need it, financial help

TheBusThatCouldntSlowDown · 18/06/2017 11:47

I believe abortion pills sent through Parcel Motel are caught and destroyed much more often than those sent directly to Ireland by post. Maybe because Parcel Motel goes through NI and they don't want to leave themselves open to prosecution. In the ROI you won't be prosecuted, and can present yourself to any hospital with no fear if things go wrong.

Good luck OP. Thinking of you. Flowers

TheHeraldOfAndraste · 18/06/2017 11:50

No one in ROI has been arrested for acquiring the pills but some people in NI have. Mara is recommending Women help women as a provider if you haven't bought anything yet, OP.

CiderwithBuda · 18/06/2017 12:04

I am Irish living in UK. Am happy to receive them here and send to you. In fact I might be travelling to Dublin next week so could carry them.

Longstanding poster. Have been on here for years. PM me if you would like me to help.

HowsConfusion · 18/06/2017 12:06

Calm down everybody.
Ireland doesn't go after those who prefer pills online.
Not like the UK- that part that is NI.
Get your own first in order first.
Op, order to your local parcel motel.
It'll arrive.

Fuzzywuzzy1 · 18/06/2017 12:19

You have to give a ROI and NI address when you order.

The company chooses which they think is safer.

sashh · 18/06/2017 12:20

This is obviously a stupid question but how does the postal system know what is in it? Or do they just go by the sender's address on the envelope?

It's customs who can open any mail they want if they suspect it is a banned substance. Just the same as they can with cocaine.

For those of you saying travel to England - not that easy, in England both pills need to be administered in a clinic on consecutive days so you need to stay overnight. The abortion can begin 2 hours after the second pill so you need another overnight stay.

The pills cost about £500 in a clinic because you are paying to see a Dr and have a nurse administer the pills.

It's an expensive trip.

ASN do support women both wit the termination and costs of travel but realistically they do not have the resources to support a woman who can buy pills.

Those of you saying buy two or three, the organisation the OP is intending to use charges a 'donation', the cost of these pills is covered by volunteers so I'm not sure getting more is an option.

GloriaGilbert · 18/06/2017 12:53

OP, are you trying to avoid your husband/partner finding out about this? Sounds like maybe you can order them to an alternate address?

Good luck.

CommonSenseIsNotAllThatCommon · 18/06/2017 13:08

We don't know the OPs circumstances. She might not be able to go to England for a couple of days due to work, children, whatever.

I have heard that its easier to get them delivered to your ROI address.

messofajess · 18/06/2017 13:09

I am in the UK as well and honestly more than happy to post them on to you - will repackage. My heart is going out to you :(

WTAAF · 18/06/2017 13:18

Can I point out that the Isle of Man is a British area where abortion is illegal and in theory a two year jail sentence for ordering these pills online. It's disgraceful.

MintyChops · 18/06/2017 13:27

Good luck OP, I am in Ireland too and the fact we have to jump through these bullshit hoops makes me very very angry. I agree that it would be worth trying to get a few delivered to different addresses if you can.

woman12345 · 18/06/2017 13:46

Flowers OP. Hope you get one soon. Breach of ECHR big time this one, but that's no use to you. Keep us posted.

Aloethere · 18/06/2017 13:50

I am in ROI and bought abortion pills via women on web. They said they wouldn't post to ROI at the time as they were all being seized so we has them delivered to a post office in NI and picked them up. This was the advice at the time(5 years ago). There was no problems doing it this way apart from the 4hour round trip to the post office.
I'm sorry you find yourself in this situation, the pills worked for me and there were no complications. I hope things work out for you.

MaisieDotes · 18/06/2017 14:21

Hope you're ok OP.

Have you ruled out the surgical option. You don't need "a few days" as suggested above. You can be over and back in a working day.

peachgreen · 18/06/2017 15:56

@MaisieDotes Hmm not sure if I agree. I had an ERPC after a missed miscarriage and I definitely wouldn't have coped with getting on a plane the same day. The day after I'd have been okay though I was still in pain and bleeding so it would have been uncomfortable, but bearable.

TheHeraldOfAndraste · 18/06/2017 16:07

peachgreen I was going to suggest the same. (If circumstances permit of course). I travelled out on the first flight of the day, had a surgical abortion and travelled back in the evening. I couldn't afford a hotel and had to do it alone but it was doable. Unpleasant but doable.

TravellingFleet · 18/06/2017 17:14

Happy to help by receiving a package in England. Just PM if you'd like to take this option.,
