It's not going to get any better for her, is it? She needs to just give up and leave.

And to continue the analogy, it suits them to leave May in the driving seat for everyone to shout at while they fix the bus. That's why she's still there - nothing to do with what the country needs.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 18/06/2017 08:26

Fix the bus, then drive it off the cliff!

Floisme · 18/06/2017 08:29

They're not going to last forever
I disagree I'm afraid. They're down but not out and they will do whatever is necessary to stay in power. Please let's not under estimate them.

Quite honestly, at this point, I think no matter what happens, we are all fucked. That includes TM resigning/a re-election of Labour/a new Tory leader. I don't see how ANYONE, including Labour, are going to get us out of this mess.
It would be nice if she did go though.

beepbeepImasheep · 18/06/2017 08:35

The vitriol in The Times yesterday was stronger than I've ever seen it for a Conservative PM; I didn't have The Times pegged as a Labour newspaper but it honestly seemed like it yesterday, not just in the odd blatant opinion column but it several places.

I think that Johnson and Gove will try and hold the situation strong and stable for now and let her take the flack whilst all this mess is going on and then move in for the kill later, god help us. I don't much like May but the thought of either of those two muppets being the PM is beyond the pale; especially Gove.

Well the knives are out for her in your favourite newspaper the DM. They want rid of her because they want a hard Brexit. I want her to carry on though. The thought of Corbyn and McDonell in power makes me want to heave. They actually don't care about people they just care about their ideology which is Marxism.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 18/06/2017 08:52

I agree Flo

The Tories are the most successful political party in history for a reason they will do anything to stay in power they understand that at times it's better to put up and shut up which is what they are doing now

It wouldn't surprise me if May in a years time becomes popular (ish) and there there isn't a leadership challenge for a few years

The public can be very fickle and quick to forget the details but what we shall be reminded of is three weeks where the PM was really tested beyond any other PM of recent times

derxa · 18/06/2017 08:52

yes Johnson and Gove. A pair of vile opportunists.

beepbeepImasheep · 18/06/2017 09:00

HIGNFY got it right when they showed J&G in white coats looking at a green bottle. Classic and summed them both up to a t.

The Mail on Sunday (which is a different team to the Daily Mail) came out for Remain. They're being a bit softer on her.

NannyOggsKnickers · 18/06/2017 09:36

The phrase 'witch hunt' doesn't fit here. Stop saying it. A witch hunt is the persecution of someone based on a perceived set of wrongs falsely attributed to them.

Holding a politician to account for actual mistakes is not a 'witch hunt'. She made those mistake. People are now asking tough questions. Good. If we don't hold our politicians to account then we will never get the changes we want. They work for us, not the other way around. The Tory party always seem to gloss over that.

You could be right, Enthusiasm. Personally I can't see May coming back from this but I thought Corbyn would get a stuffing so I clearly know nothing! And yes, if she does survive, her next election theme will be 'Who was there for you when the country was falling apart'? (Only a bit snappier.) By then it won't matter that it was of her own making.

I remember the Westland affair and thinking Margaret Thatcher couldn't possibly survive. I've read that she later admitted she herself thought she would have to resign. But of course she did survive and now I can barely remember what it was even about.

This is what they do. They're the political equivalent of a Terminator.
