to think Theresa May must go?

It's not going to get any better for her, is it? She needs to just give up and leave.

OP posts:
sodablackcurrant · 17/06/2017 23:56

I think that now the Rasputin Two (her former advisers) are gone, she might actually find someone who will actually advise her, and not follow their own agenda.

Oh heck I am tired and going to bed, but this woman appears to be led rather than lead.

shinyredbus · 18/06/2017 00:17

The country doesn't need more disarray. Her stepping down now leaves the country in further chaos - is this what you want? Do you have a solution for this OP? Its frustrating when someone makes a sweeping statement - oh she must go, she's terrible, she's awful - but then have no alternative.

In times like this, we need to try and come together - not break up.

honeyroar · 18/06/2017 00:36

I didn't vote for her and I don't like her, but I can't see what good it can do if our PMs ends up resigning every year. We've got a heck of a ride ahead of us (another thing I didn't vote for!) and we have to find some stability to get through it. Plus the thought of Boris at the helm terrifies me more than TM.

Bejazzled · 18/06/2017 00:41

Op and everyone agreeing that TM should go now... who would you want in her place?

noblegiraffe · 18/06/2017 01:58

she won the highest proportion of votes and she won approx sixty more seats than the nearest other party, hence why she is prime minister.and the tories are in power

No, that's not why she's in power. In the event of a hung parliament, the incumbent gets first shot at forming a government. Remember Gordon Brown in Downing Street trying to form a coalition? He only got about the same amount of seats as Corbyn, but he was the incumbent.

If she can't form a government, then Corbyn can be asked by the Queen to give it a go.

Okite · 18/06/2017 05:53

The country doesn't need more disarray.
I absolutely agree with this, however all the chaos and disarray we're currently in has been brought about by less than 2 years of Tory government. It's insane how much damage Cameron and May have wrought in such a short timescale.

Floisme · 18/06/2017 07:04

I'm a bit flummoxed to hear the party that believes it's born to rule seriously trying to argue that they haven't got a competent leader between them. But if that's really the case then they're clearly not fit to be in government.

ClopySow · 18/06/2017 07:09

Who could actually step in if she goes? Boris would be and ansolute disaster.

Moussemoose · 18/06/2017 07:16

The Tories will allow her to stay so she carries the blame for brexit. Once that calamity is agreed they will ditch her and move on a new leader who is being agreed upon in backrooms at the moment.

makeourfuture · 18/06/2017 07:16

What leaves this country in disarray is this DUP/Tory coalition.

No plans. No transparency. Careening from crisis to crisis.

FizbotheClown · 18/06/2017 07:23

No the chaos and disarray was bought about by voters voting for Brexit and a hung parliament ie democracy.

makeourfuture · 18/06/2017 07:32

No the chaos and disarray was bought about by voters voting for Brexit and a hung parliament ie democracy.

Terrible timing for both elections. Awful.

beachdream · 18/06/2017 07:35

She's made some big mistakes - primarily in calling this election and with her poor handling of the Grenfell disaster during the immediate aftermath.
I am not a fan of her or the Tories at all, but I just cannot see what a witch hunt following in her resignation will achieve right at this moment.
The Tories have no viable alternative, and she is about to start Brexit negotiations that she's been preparing for a year. If she resigns under pressure then Boris will be our PM and that's not a good thing.

BigChocFrenzy · 18/06/2017 07:40

If the Tory party decides they'd do better without May, they'll replace her.

They are totally ruthless with any leader as soon as they become a liability, even if they've successfully won elections - like MrsT.

May hasn't produced any victories, in fact she's lost the majority she inherited from Cameron.
She was never popular with Tory MPs, as they didn't rate her much - they were right - and she only became PM because Leadsome was even worse.

Currently, all her rivals scent blood and are circling round, ready to pounce if she is sufficiently weakened

  • or they may let her deal first with the poisoned chalice of Brexit, so that she carries the can for that.

She may just decide to retire gracefully on health grounds and leave the buggers to it.

I17neednumbers · 18/06/2017 07:48

"If she can't form a government, then Corbyn can be asked by the Queen to give it a go."

The maths doesn't work for labour though does it - and would be very difficult to see how lab and snp could reach an agreement on brexit at the moment.

Though - radical thought - maybe cons would abstain on a queen's speech if lab put forward a few non controversial measures, rather than force another election. Neither side can want another election immediately can they? - whatever lab say, the truth is politics seems incredibly volatile at the moment and who's to say they would do better rather than worse at a 2nd election? 7 weeks turned out to be a very long time in politics. With a new leader lib dems might conceivably do better - especially in remainer london - and who can predict the impact on lab (and cons for that matter)?

bertsdinner · 18/06/2017 07:53

I agree with you there 117, I think Labour are pushing for another election but things can change very quickly, as the tories found out, and they may not get the result they seem to think they will. We could end up with another hung parliament.

makeourfuture · 18/06/2017 07:58

The Tories have no viable alternative, and she is about to start Brexit negotiations that she's been preparing for a year.

So you put your country in the worst possible situation and then cry "Oh now is not the time".

There are no Brexit Plans.

iamavodkadrinker · 18/06/2017 07:58

The only people in a position to replace her are the worst cunts of the Tory party. Last thing we need.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 18/06/2017 08:06

She's about to start brexit negotiations that she's been preparing for a year

People still believe that.

In fact, key civil servants have resigned, senior ministers of brexit dept have been fired, but most importantly, the govt is massively weakened. It's a wounded animal and - There is no plan.

They should have said to the eu 'mate, we are in disarray here, we're going to have to postpone', but they can't do that because of their pretence of strong and stable. It is a joke.

Floisme · 18/06/2017 08:09

If they wanted to replace her they would do so. As other posters have already said, there is no one better or more ruthless at this sort of thing. (I'm not a Tory but I can admire a superbly running machine when I see one.) Their problem is that no-one wants to step up right now because they don't want to be the person in charge when or if Brexit goes tits up. So please spare us this nonsense about them thinking about this country. They are thinking about their party and their own careers.

twelly · 18/06/2017 08:09

Difficult question, she did "win" the election as she has the largest party, but is perceived as failure given expectations. The fact she said to the Tories she will get them out of this mess shows grit and determination and makes me think she has the temperament to succeed, however, she has been vilified personally by some in the press and the country, therefore I would not blame her if she stepped down

makeourfuture · 18/06/2017 08:14

but I can admire a superbly running machine when I see one

The freakin' wheels have come off. With negotiations starting. With no plan. With terror on the streets and worse in the buildings.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 18/06/2017 08:16

She didn't get the required number of seats. She didn't win- They have lost power because of her arrogance.
Now we'll see the whole country lose because of their arrogance.

Floisme · 18/06/2017 08:18

They have come off for the time being but don't under estimate them. The Tory party powers of survival are second to none - in fact they're at their most dangerous when they're wounded.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 18/06/2017 08:22

Maybe for the moment, but the Tory party and hard brexit is being propelled by the over 60's and supported by the msm. They're not going to last forever.
