...to soak my feet in the washing up bowl

Mexxi · 16/06/2017 18:04

Obviously, the washing up would not be in there at the time. I could do with a nice d -stressing foot soak, but the only bowl I own is the washing up bowl. Should I?

Yes Bustopher us people with Bust in our names don't give a shit for anti bac soap and wipes. We live on the wild side and just get on with it! 😂

harderandharder2breathe · 17/06/2017 11:11

How do some of you cope with washing up after raw meat? Do you immediately throw away everything chopping board, knife and washing up bowl?

Actually not sure how some of you cope with life in general

It's fine. Wash it after.

I wash up in the sink under running water but I have a washing up bowl for vomit and one for feet. And a collapseable one for camping that would serve whatever purpose I find for it whether that's dishes, feet or vomit!

kittensinmydinner1 · 17/06/2017 12:06

Well said Harderandharder, someone who understands the concept of cleaning but does not feel the need to live in a sterile bubble.

My standards are just fine along with my immune system. It can cope with a few bugs here and there as it does not live in a 'bleached out of existence ' environment.

Mexxi · 17/06/2017 12:21

The feet were soaked last night and the bowl was cleaned. I am still alove. I will do it again!

a table spoon of soda crystals makes for soft feet.

PurpleDragon76 · 17/06/2017 14:32

This made me smile, reminded me of my mum, she would soak her feet in a washing up bowl with a handful of crystal things I can't remember the name of but they lived under the sink. We puked in that bowl to, food got defrosted in it, took soapy water to do stuff outside, peeled potatoes in, loved that bowl Grin I feel nostalgic now...

It didn't get bleached each time either, just rinsed with a bit of fairy. That was us, we weren't disgusting or vile.

PurpleDragon76 · 17/06/2017 14:33

Soda crystals! Thats it, thanks yellowlawn

BabsGanoush · 17/06/2017 14:34

our dog licks the dinner plates clean....before they go in the dishwasher. MIL thinks it's gross.

missiondecision · 17/06/2017 15:02

Errreweeeeeee. That's minging. Sorry.
If you would tell you friends, "btw I'm just washing your cup in the bowl I washed my feet in" then it's ok.
If you would keep it to yourself then it's not.

missiondecision · 17/06/2017 15:02

BABS !!!!!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 17/06/2017 15:43

Babs, our dog would do the same - again pre dishwasher. She was brilliant with a roasting tin, too - hold it down with one paw and keep at it for 15 mins until barely a molecule was left.
That would then go into the dishwasher, too.

Nobody ever objected, but then I have never invited over fussy clean freaks to my house - one whiff of over-fussy clean freakery has soon nipped any potential friendship in the bud.

Ditto, come to that, any whiff of I-don't-like-dogs.

paxillin · 17/06/2017 15:49

"btw I'm just washing your cup in the bowl I washed my feet in"

So you declare the history of all objects? The towel in the guest loo was used when DS threw up when he was little, a poonami babygro was once soaked in the sink...

I'm mystified why people are mystified over the point of a washing up bowl.

For one thing, it protects breakable items. If you wash delicate glassware or china in a hard sink, there's a much higher risk of them getting chipped or broken. A plastic bowl reduces that risk.

Another thing is that you can use it for soaking things. I quite often put dishcloths to soak in bleach, or handwashing items in pre-soak. So then if I want to use the sink for something else, I can just lift the bowl out and put it to one side.

I agree that there is no harm in using a washing up bowl for soaking feet, it's easy enough to clean them. I also agree about exposure to germs, it is a good thing and keeps our immune systems charged.

OhSoggyBiscuit · 17/06/2017 19:08

Some people use the washing up bowl as a vomit bucket and I assume clean it well with hot water and soap after. (although after that it probably isn't for use as a washing bowl anymore!!)

GhostPower · 17/06/2017 20:23

If you clean your toilet with bleach would you eat off of it?

paxillin · 17/06/2017 20:29

I don't think toilets are terribly usefull to eat out of, they do dilute food so much. Would you rip out your kitchen and replace it if someone throws up in the sink or rinses a poopy nappy in it?

Redpriestandmozart · 17/06/2017 21:00

When I was a kid our washing up bowl served as a foot bath & a sick bowl, bleach was our friend and we survived!!

Notso · 17/06/2017 21:12

When we were doing the house up we had to wash ourselves, the dishes and our clothes in the bath for about six weeks. We didn't get loads of horrible illnesses.

BusterGonad · 17/06/2017 21:18

I've used my washing up bowl as a sick bowl when my son was poorly, I did wash it out after with boiling water from the kettle and washing up liquid. Blush Everyone survived and I never mention it to someone who's popped in for a cuppa "oh, by the way Sandra I washed that mug up in my son's sick bowl!" 😂

user1492287253 · 17/06/2017 21:22

good god. far worse stuff goes in our washing up bowl than a pair of feet. parallel universe time again

OnlyTheWelshCanCwtch · 17/06/2017 21:26

Ive soaked my feet in the washing up bowl loads of times.
No-one has died yet!

And bathed the kids in the sink.
Ive even brushed my teeth in the kitchen sink.
And washed up in the bath. The shower attachment is great for rinsing the suds off!
I still use the bath to wash the freezer drawers and fridge shelves when I defrost the fridge freezer, scrub it all then rinse with shower hose, its great!
