I have known of 3 cases of people giving their house to one of their children while living with them in order to "be looked after". Usually it has been one parent dead and the one left behind thinking about old age. Apart from having created MASSIVE rifts with other remaining siblings going NC, when the time came and the parent was actually in need of care has either been 1) abused 2) neglected 3) left in a care home instead.

chocorabbit - I just read your post above. This would be my worry for the future. I had a glimpse of that possibility when I had some ill health recently. It did not look good so rather than trying to help my older DC have better homes in better areas (renting at present) I think there would be better ways to spend money.

Just wondering if because your brother may be unable to get a mortgage your Dad is purchasing it for him & they repay him (as opposed to a high street lender)?
