To not want to give tickets to my colleague

Due to a contract we had with a particular company, my organisation were given a number of tickets to a pretty special event that's taking place next month. As there were less tickets than employees it was decided to raffle them, two tickets per lucky person so that they could bring a partner or friend. This was agreed with everyone. I was one of the lucky ones but, due to a mix up in holiday plans, have realised I won't be able to attend. A colleague I''m quite friendly with who also won two tickets has asked if she can have my tickets as it will mean she can bring her brother and SIL who will be staying with her from America, as well as her husband, to the event.

AIBU to feel this is a bit unfair as other colleagues haven't received any tickets so why should she get to bring extra people? I really feel my tickets should be raffled off between the staff who haven't already won some.

Could you not see if the colleagues who didn't get tickets have an interest in them first? If there is, do the raffle, if not then give them to your colleague. But tell her what you would like to do first so it doesn't come as a shock

Just email the organiser to that effect. We have rules in place about who can go on jollies etc so you might not even be allowed to just give them to her.

Pffft, I think that as you're friendly with her and she's planning on taking family from America id give them to her. Just tell her to please keep it quiet as you don't want others in the office to get upset

I don't think I could do it without others finding out Blumkin. They'll realise I'm on holidays during the week of the event.

In. any event, if I hadn't won tickets I know I'd be really annoyed if I discovered another colleague had been given four. I think I'll just be honest with her and then give them back for raffling.

Could you not say you already agreed to give them to a family member and then sell them? That way no office politics are involved. I think refusing your colleague who you say you're close with has the potential to cause issues between the two of you but not re-raffling could cause bad feeling with everyone else. By saying you gave them to a relative you're effectively doing what she'd be doing and nobody can be upset with you as as far as they'd be concerned you've given them to family.

^obviously my suggestion would only work if it's a public event. If it's not something that could be sold just be honest with your colleague- they may even suggest re-raffling it.
