To want to change jobs, but only work four days a week?

Due to go back to work in three months. Currently work 45 miles away which can take over an hour in the morning and at least an hour on the way home, ten hours of traveling at a cost of £200 a month.

I also work in an industry (NFP) that pays a good 10/20% less than national average for wages so whilst I enjoy my job, I know I could earn more elsewhere.

However, I know that in this job, I can cut my hours to four days a week, leaving me a day at home with DS, a balance I'm quite comfortable with.

The cost of traveling, the wasted time driving and the lower salary are all making we want to quit and find something closer to home but how easy would it be to get a similar four day week agreement elsewhere? Has anyone else successfully negotiated this? (I'm a senior manager, so quite high up, if this makes a difference!)

It obviously depends but I think if you're a stand out candidate it is definitely possible to negotiate a four day week. Recently I recruited someone and then after the offer she said she wanted this. We said ok and it's worked great. She was the best candidate, she's happy, we saved 20% on the salary and I doubt we're getting 20% less work.
