To ask people to stop swearing so much

Frankly, the language of some of the posters on this site is disgusting and I wonder if they talk like this in front of their children. I also wonder if their parents would be proud of how they post on the internet. Swearing every time isn't big and it isn't clever. It makes people come across as uneducated chavs.

AIBU to ask people to clean up their act and stop swearing?

I don't like swearing, DH swears like a trooper and I think it spoils the atmosphere.

I don't understand the point of saying fucking in front of every noun, I feel you should save it for when you need put across how angry you are or it loses all meaning.

BorisTrumpsHair · 13/06/2017 09:56

It dilutes your argument and just makes you sound uneducated.

^^ this statement makes the person who makes these silly assumptions sound ignorant, prejudiced AND uneducated.

Waltermittythesequel · 13/06/2017 09:57

It spoils the atmosphere?!

Unclench.

I've recently had a baby and am trying to cut down on real life swearing so she doesn't do it when she starts talking.

It's quite hard so I love that mn is a safe space of profanity.

JacquesHammer · 13/06/2017 10:16

Suggest to those that don't like swearing, rather than asking other adults to modify their - perfectly legal - behaviour, they simply modify theirs by finding a forum where swearing is banned.

Who knew there could be such a simple fucking solution.

DustyMaiden · 13/06/2017 10:21

I've not asked anyone to stop its not so bad written but IRL it sounds aggressive and makes me nervous, just my experience.

ICancelledTheCheque · 13/06/2017 10:38

Ill swear when I feel like it, thanks Hmm

I went to private school. I have a law degree and a masters. I also live in a six bedroom detached house and own a second five bedroom detached house too.

Not stealth boasting, but I swear like a trooper and hardly fit the definition of an uneducated chav Hmm

Oh and we must all swear at our kids too - I know that mine were christened Cunt, Cockwomble, Wanker and Dickcheese because I love swearing so much.

Hercules12 · 13/06/2017 10:45

I agree totally with you, op.
The swearing on the site fucks me right off.

Thisarmingman · 13/06/2017 10:53

It's fucking disgusting. All of these cunts going around swearing like the obvious bastards they are. There's a proven link between swearing and being the kind of person who robs old ladies and shits on their neighbour's carpet. I'm with you, OP. Ignore these other ignorant fucks.

nina2b · 13/06/2017 11:58

The swearing genuinely spoils the forum. Not only is it juvenile and frankly daft, it is also fake. IMO

It is quite ironic, also, that some of those who support posters being treated badly by the "school gate cliques", are actually being unpleasant themselves on the forum.

AND it seems many of those who indulge in swearing on the forum, seem to be annoyed hence the over the top display. Perhaps they fear that others see them as lesser contributors. I don't get why they are surprised by the way they are perceived, frankly..,

nina2b · 13/06/2017 11:59

...frankly...

nina2b · 13/06/2017 12:00

If people think you are "an uneducated chav", are you REALLY surprised? If the cap
fits and all that...!

Waltermittythesequel · 13/06/2017 12:02

Wow, you really are a try-hard, aren't you?

Pushing for a reaction. As I said with the epic fail nonsense; you're embarrassing yourself.

Swearing on the internet is a cathartic release. So on that note. Do fuck off dear

Sarcomere · 13/06/2017 12:05

Fuck off. You can't get much more educated than a Ph.D.

motherinferior · 13/06/2017 12:06

I've sworn a fuck of a lot ever since my first English degree at Oxford.

Funko · 13/06/2017 12:27

look, I work with some absolute fuck face tossers. I can't very well stand up and shout, SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU CUNTING ARSEDFACED WANKERS, or I'll get the sack. I can here though.

Stop ruining my sanctuary!!

mygorgeousmilo · 13/06/2017 12:48

Sorry Hun, my gob - my rulez! Biscuit nethuns is thatta way ->

So swearing is as bad and unpleasant as ostracising people or bullying? Seriously, have a word with yourself.

JassyRadlett · 13/06/2017 13:13

No, it spoils it for you. It enhances it for others. See how that works?

If it spoils it for you, have you thought about trying a site where the prevailing culture is somewhat different? One where classist insults and intellectual pygymyism are more tolerated and even celebrated, while swearing is excoriated? It's an odd set of values from my perspective, but it takes all sorts.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 13/06/2017 13:20

Nobody does the Obama memes anymore. Jeez!

It's soooooooo 2016 Grin

JacquesHammer · 13/06/2017 13:23

We did a whole terms module on the language of swearing at my rather exclusive all-girls school. It was fascinating.

As my parents say - not only did school teach us to swear, but where to swear appropriately 😄 well worth the money!

I have a degree and further qualifications. I run my own business and I am doing another qualification. The choice of language I make isn't indicative of anything other than a wide and appropriate vocabulary

Pannnn · 13/06/2017 13:24

I don't think 'changing forums' to Nethuns is a solution. I don't think there is one.
Continuing to swear and use offensive language habitually will mean I and others will judge you for it. And heavily.
