Small village shop no where to get change locally we have a stash but we do run out or get low on change especially at busy times like weekends. Aibu to say no to people who give me change then take it back and give me a 20 or a 50 because they want some change. or even worse people that buy the cheapest item so they can afford the car park. I never have refused someone and never will but it annoyes me even more when they say can have the 5 pounds in change or dictate what change I should give them. They no they have to pay for the car park don't people have a stash

I work in a similar situation but bigger shop with two tills. We have £100 float in both. If I'm short I ask people if they have the right money/any less. I would not give them £9 in pound coins if they asked for them, just a £5 note and £4 in coins and say sorry I'm short of pound coins. Also we are not allowed to just give people change unless they are buying something - company policy
The obvious solution is to have a bigger float. £100 is not going to take much more room that £50 in a safe
