...the fact that women are dominating political leaderships up and down the country, and nobody is finding this extraordinary, or something to celebrate OR criticize, is brilliant?

It's a total non-issue and I find that quite heartening really.

I agree. It was only when it was reported that there had been a rise in the number of women in politics recently that I stopped to think.....oh yeah!

True.

I agree, OP.

Wait what? I thought there still only was a THIRD of MPs female?

Sure, more women in the government is a good thing, but I think we are VERY far away from women dominating anything.

I also notice that the female heads of state tend to have a very male-identified agenda.

Off the top of my head, the US was the only place where the female candidate would have been (somewhat) more progressive, and lo and behold, she was not elected.

I get the impression that women are only ever allowed to rise to the top of a patriarchal country if they are under no suspicion at all that they could POSSIBLY be feminists and fail to prioritize men in everything.

Excellent point.

I hadn't even noticed and it hadn't really crossed my mind which really backs up your post.

I'm not for a second suggesting it's a job done, let's all hang up our feminist flags and go home and have a cup of tea and maybe you have a point Vestal.

I just sat back this morning and realised that we have quite a few female political leaders; Nicola Sturgeon, Ruth Davidson, Theresa May, Caroline Lucas, Kezia Dugdale, Leanne Wood etc and no fuss has been made of them being women. Just made me think, maybe, maybe we're getting somewhere.
