The irony- Theresa May

LovelyBath77 · 11/06/2017 06:09

It's quite ironic that the things TM accused JC of seem to be coming true for herself! Having dodgy 'friends' (DUP) and being alone and naked for Brexit for example.

OP posts:
ChardonnaysPrettySister · 11/06/2017 08:22

No, there won't be anyone, because of what a coalition is.

Orlantina · 11/06/2017 08:29

There is no need for concessions to be given to the DUP in return for this support as it's there anyway. If the DUP begins to blackmail however, then we have an issue

Depends on the issues.

Plus Theresa May has the very real problem just like she had prior to the election of her BANKBENCH MPs who have concerns over Brexit, education and the NHS.

Not all her MPs will always support the Government. That is EXACTLY why she called the election. She wanted lots more MPs so she could get through the negotations knowing 'She had the support of the British people and had a large majority to prove it'.

She hasn't got that. She will have to work with her party and other MPs to compromise.

SeaWitchly · 11/06/2017 08:33

Yes, it definitely wins the most ironic post on this thread award Donald Grin

And the fact that TM and the DM have spent months telling the British public about JC's connections to terrorists and coalition of chaos... and now have jumped into bed with the DUP upsetting a lot of their core vote and potentially putting a fragile peace in NI at risk.

There is a petition you can sign if you feel strongly enough that this is wrong - Petition 10 Downing St

christinarossetti · 11/06/2017 08:34

The DUP have confirmed that no deal has been agreed and negotiations are ongoing

We need a new word for humiliation

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/06/2017 08:35

If no free passes are to be given out, why do there need to be talks between the Tories and DUP before an alliance can be created?

Orlantina · 11/06/2017 08:36

In negotiations, something usually has to be given by each side...

derxa · 11/06/2017 08:39

Here's quite an interesting article from Peter Hitchens. Of course it's in the DM so some of you won't soil your eyes by reading it.
www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-4592398/PETER-HITCHENS-Theresa-s-Tories-useful-zombie.html

Peregrina · 11/06/2017 08:44

And yet and yet Labour did not won and the Tories won better than anyone.
No, Theresa May did not win. A win would have been the 80+ majority she confidently expected to get after her unnecessary, time wasting and costly election. In her own words she said that 6 seats lost to Corbyn would be a loss. She's only done as many as she has because Scottish Tories ran their own campaign and took seats from the SNP.

So here we are - the people spoke and they rejected Labour fair and square. Now we just have to get on with it.
Here we are indeed, so what exactly do we get on with? Mrs May's hard Brexit which the electorate have not endorsed (see ref above to the 80 seats.) 40 plus seats majority would probably have been enough. But she's squandered that 3 years before she needed to.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 11/06/2017 08:47

Cland

Please don't be too hard on "the British."

42% voted for the Torys
58% did not vote for the Torys.

So the majority of British people Do NOT support this govt.

I really hope the World recognises this!

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 11/06/2017 08:49

I read the article

He thinks Mays government are TOO namby pamby and PC?

Mind boggles as to who he would like instead. Hitler?

Orlantina · 11/06/2017 08:49

Scottish Conservatives are interesting because Scotland has its own concerns over Brexit as well.

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 11/06/2017 08:52

I want to preface this by saying I'm a remainer, a supporter of free movement and a Labour voter but for supporters of Brexit who want a reduction in immigration - TM forming a coalition with the DUP is surely disastrous for you guys.

The Republic of Ireland, as part of the EU, has borders open to Europe. The DUP are demanding soft borders between NI and the UK. Correct me if I'm wrong but surely if TM does form a coalition with the DUP and also manages by some wave of a magic wand to secure a hard Brexit - won't it mean nothing?

Migration from Europe will still be able to occur through the back door of the republic of Ireland and NI. Rather like double bolting your front door while leaving your back door swinging open.

Fortunately Liverpudlians are a hospitable bunch.

Peregrina · 11/06/2017 08:56

It's worth pointing out that when Cameron went into coalition with the LibDems, the Lib Dems were a party representing 3 out of 4 UK countries with a sizable number of seats. Even then, it did enormous damage to the LibDems, which they are slowly trying to claw their way back from.

The DUP represent only one section of N Ireland.

VanillaSugar · 11/06/2017 08:58

I want to know what's going on inside TM's brain this morning. is it "yay, get me!" or is it " fck fck fck fck fck fck.'?

Juliancopescat · 11/06/2017 09:02

There will be no agreement about coalition or 'confidence' today anyway because the DUP do not negotiate (or do anything) on Sundays. See recent assembly negotiations

Peregrina · 11/06/2017 09:03

I want to know what's going on inside TM's brain this morning. is it "yay, get me!" or is it " fck fck fck fck fck fck.'?

Or will it be, "I don't know why everyone is against me, I have done nothing."?

Code42 · 11/06/2017 09:04

OP feel free to post on one of the billion threads already in existence about this.

I didn't vote Tory, but this incessant moralising, even in the MN echo chamber, is now beyond tedious. If this was another thread saying that JC lost the election, and why was he calling it a victory, you'd be called a goady fucker. Doesn't make it not goady just because it's the Tories. Biscuit

And yes, you're right: it's not an AIBU and you should have posted it in politics.

Orlantina · 11/06/2017 09:05

And yes, you're right: it's not an AIBU and you should have posted it in politics

It's bloody funny though.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 11/06/2017 09:06

Here is a list of how the MPs voted on gay marriage.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-21346694

There are Labour MPs who voted against too.

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 11/06/2017 09:07

Tbread police are tedious

CaveMum · 11/06/2017 09:10

The problem is if TM does step down we have to endure a leadership contest, likely to be won by BoJo, and then in all likelihood yet another General Election within 12 months.

Either way, we're screwed.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 11/06/2017 09:10

Coalition of chaos
Terrorist sympathiser
Alone and naked

It is worth repeating because it is funny! Is it schadenfreude?

ToastDemon · 11/06/2017 09:16

Schafenfreude feels so good though.

Who's looking alone and naked now?

GraceGrape · 11/06/2017 09:19

Interesting that there have already been calls from some Tory MPs for a cross-party negotiation for issues like Brexit and Social care. www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/jun/10/election-nicky-morgan-theresa-hard-brexit?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

This seems to me eminently the most sensible option. Brexit especially needs to be hammered out with as much compromise as possible. Also, surely if the parties are most concerned about their electability, which they seem to be, a cross-party negotiation would be better as no one party would be fully responsible if people aren't satisfied with the final deal.

Bluedabbadee · 11/06/2017 09:22

It seems to me posters aren't aware that there is no coalition.

Nothing much is going to change. The DUP tend to vote with the Conservatives anyway.

But I suppose it suits Lefties to ignore the truth and scaremonger lies! Wink
