Last night my husband asked me why I (nearly) always vote Conservative.
I have spent the past fortnight praising JC for the way he has turned his campaign round and he has certainly convinced my son that Labour are the way forward.
My vote has certainly not been the Done Deal it has been in the past.
However I was swayed away from Labour for one reason, i realised this morning.
I sound so shallow, but I can't bear the thought of being associated with the left-wing mob I have been deluged with day after day on social media and here.
Every day I have seen such infantile nonsense on Facebook from a couple of friends who have been whipping themselves into a hysterical frenzy about the Conservatives.
I get it Theresa May is not everyone's cup of tea, but a picture of her on the streets with the caption 'Hope She Gets What She Deserves on June 9' - how utterly pathetic.
I've seen awful personal attacks on people who have asked questions of Labour on QT- apparently someone is Tory Scum for having the temerity to wear a £150 jumper.
And anyone not toeing the Labour line is either scum, thick or at best needs to be taught the error of their ways. They don't understand you see.
So my AIBU is: Has the endless social media and forum posting from a vocal Left wing had the complete opposite effect to the desired one?

"No because I'm a grown up and don't cast my vote in order to spite Facebook "haterz"."

This.

cathf · 08/06/2017 19:32

I don't base my vote on social media posts either, obviouslyConfused
My post was merely an observation, that's all.
Would anyone be persueded to vote Labour on the back of the posts I mentioned earlier?
And if not, what's the point?

Rollonbedtime7pm · 08/06/2017 19:33

Tbh I have mostly seen the opposite - the Tories I know on FB have endlessly posted infantile digs at Jeremy Corbyn. I'm yet to see a Conservative post that actually says anything about their own policies and doesn't just slag JC off for being old or something ridiculous.

Nikephorus · 08/06/2017 19:33

I'm with OP.

PacificDogwod · 08/06/2017 19:35

Tbh IME no side ever covers themselves in glory in the run up to an election, politicians and supporters alike.
It's all just so much more visible because of social media.

TheWitchAndTrevor · 08/06/2017 19:36

I don't base my vote on social media posts either, obviouslyconfused

Grin okaaaaaaay

You whole OP says the oppositeGrin

FindoGask · 08/06/2017 19:36

"I don't base my vote on social media posts either, obviously"

Oh really? Because that's pretty much what you said in your OP:

"However I was swayed away from Labour for one reason, i realised this morning. I sound so shallow, but I can't bear the thought of being associated with the left-wing mob I have been deluged with day after day on social media and here."

You're right about one thing. You do sound shallow.

cathf · 08/06/2017 19:36

Prolific? Goady? I probably post about twice a week!
Non-left wing posters are really not welcome here, are they?

OP posts:
RibCage · 08/06/2017 19:37

Theresa, get some sleep, love. You're about to inherit a fucking catastrophe.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 08/06/2017 19:38

Clearly I have a higher calibre of friend on Facebook. All I've seen its lots of thought out posts (admittedly mostly supporting labour) based on the manifestos and actual facts, not mudslinging.
It wouldnt effect my vote anyway. I vote based on the manifestos I've read, not on memes.

giddyuppony · 08/06/2017 19:38

YANBU any sense and realistic belief in Labour has been replaced with disdain for the way I've seen their supporters on social media have behaved. Not saying the other parties are whiter than white but if you have to insult others to prove your point, your point is not worth making imho

HaudYerWheeshtBawbag · 08/06/2017 19:40

Yet another post.

I have seen more personal attacks form the torys than I have from the other parties.

So please stop with the endless tory posts!

0hCrepe · 08/06/2017 19:40

Yes there are a lot of fb memes against the Tories but that's nothing compared to the out and out lies coming from newspapers about JC which to me is utterly shocking and smacks of desperation.

takesnoprisoners · 08/06/2017 19:40

YANBU OP. The vile left wing mob which is oh-so-holier-than-thou has ensured that I never ever vote Labour. You are not alone. They are just so fanatical.

pictish · 08/06/2017 19:41

Your whole post is about being put off the left by memes on facebook. Confused

Seems pretty inane to me.

cathf · 08/06/2017 19:42

I wonder if some of the posters on this thread have actually seen some of the stuff I am talking about?
I can't believe anyone thinks it is OK to scaremonger people by asking eg if they have their health insurance sorted for tomorrow, because the NHS will be abolished tomorrow apparently.

OP posts:
CleopatraTheCatLover · 08/06/2017 19:43

Fair enough, I voted based on party policies.

cathf · 08/06/2017 19:45

So, if everyone votes purely on policies (thanks to everyone who pointed that out), what's the point of SM noise?

OP posts:
HaudYerWheeshtBawbag · 08/06/2017 19:46

If I could screen shot I would but no OP you dont just post twice a week, its endless with you, "all those nasty left wing supporters"

ExplodedCloud · 08/06/2017 19:48

Yes like OfficerVH my first thought was Hmm at the thought of you being anything other than hostile to Corbyn and the 'left'. But this disingenuous tactic has been your usual way of starting multiple threads.

cathf · 08/06/2017 19:48

Endless? Really? I have probably started maybe three threads and contributed to another half a dozen.
But anyway what would be the problem?

OP posts:
AppleMagic · 08/06/2017 19:51

Advanced search is your friend Wink

Unless you're capable of bigger U-turns than our dear PM there's no chance you were ever considering voting for Labour.

Carolinesbeanies · 08/06/2017 19:51

Its strengthened my resolved. Influenced my vote? not at all, just sadly reinforced negative views of left wing agitators (the ones having breakdowns at not getting their way)

APlaceOnTheCouch · 08/06/2017 19:53

^Yeah when exercising my democratic vote and considering the future of my country, i always worry about what memes people who have voted the same way might have posted and it makes me change my mind

It's what emily wilding davison would have wanted^
