... for no smug crowing, whoever wins?

People who are upset tomorrow are not "drama llamas". They aren't hysterical or whiners or "sore losers". This isn't a football game; it's not about being "gracious in defeat". Tomorrow there will be people terrified for their jobs and homes and lives. People will genuinely be wondering whether they'll survive another five years, with good reason. People aren't bitter or bad losers, they're scared.

So rather than crowing and mocking them and smirking, if you're convinced that you have voted in the right person for the country, why not reassure them? Tell them what your chosen party is going to do to help them, and why you've voted for them.

This place was awful after the Brexit referendum because of the smirking and sniping on every thread started by anxious remain voters. If you feel that your choice was the best choice for the country, help to calm their fears rather than creating more division and hatred between people.

This applies to whoever wins tomorrow. People will be scared whatever the outcome. Just don't be a dickhead tomorrow.

OP posts:
Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/06/2017 20:29

Very well said, OP ... it's probably a vain hope, but that doesn't mean it isn't worth having

Justanotherlurker · 08/06/2017 20:30

Over the last few weeks I've accused Tory voters of not caring about the disabled, not caring about the poor and generally being selfish, but I don't remember mentioning the Daily Mail or the Sun. Was this recently? I agree with the sentiment though, the Sun is a pile of crap and the Mail is sexist and grim.

I agree that the papers are shit but that is a different matter I remember your name and you accused people of the nebulous "being selfish" of only reading the daily mail /sun, which as rhetoric is a bit of a dead horse now.

I stand by my assertion that if this election was closer you wouldn't be starting such a thread, you are trying to frame it in a way that any criticism of the inevitable hyperbolic threads that will be started tomorrow is just gloating.

Even though I agree with you in principal, if you and several left leaning posters on this thread had been as understanding as you want others to be and not treat politics as a team support, you would have started earlier on, not when it's looking pretty certain that your team is going to lose, sorry.

RangeTesKopeks · 08/06/2017 20:47

Very well said OP - brilliant post :)

CrossWordSalad · 08/06/2017 20:57

I was really disappointed when I opened the thread as I thought it was going to be a general plea for less division and more reasonableness on all "sides"which I really would have welcomed.

BillSykes is spot on. And talk about a rewriting of history. All those poor little remainers being gloated at by leavers? Are you having a laugh? Go back and read the threads - they are all still there.

The last few days have been incredibly depressing with the nastiness towards Tories on here. I really, really don't think it is Tory voters who need a lecture on not being unpleasant Hmm

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 08/06/2017 21:05

I agree that the papers are shit but that is a different matter I remember your name and you accused people of the nebulous "being selfish" of only reading the daily mail /sun, which as rhetoric is a bit of a dead horse now.

When?

you are trying to frame it in a way that any criticism of the inevitable hyperbolic threads that will be started tomorrow is just gloating.

No, gloating is gloating. If someone comes on a thread tomorrow and says "Calm down, the Conservative policy is actually _ rather than kill the disabled/drown the poor/whatever a meme on Facebook is telling you", that's not gloating. That's useful.

If someone comes on a thread and says "Ha ha your team lost and my team won so I'm drinking champagne while you're crying", that's gloating. I reserve the right to think that someone is a dickhead if they do that tomorrow.

not when it's looking pretty certain that your team is going to lose

Oh ffs Hmm see, this is what I mean. Seeing it as a big game with a team that wins and a team that loses, rather than something that will have a huge impact on people's lives.

For what it's worth, I've tactical voted Labour today but I am more aligned with Lib Dem/Green and am now pretty disenfranchised with politics as a whole because of bullshit like this. So I'm not a rab

BillSykesDog · 08/06/2017 21:06

What part of "no-one should be a dickhead to anyone tomorrow" are you struggling to wrap your brain around?

Well nobody actually fucking said that did they? Perhaps before you start chucking insults at people you might like to at least have the decency of being accurate.

What the OP actually said was:

This applies to whoever wins tomorrow. People will be scared whatever the outcome. Just don't be a dickhead tomorrow.

That, along with the rest of the post made it very clear that the OP was referring to the winners not being dickheads. Not the losers.

As Lurker said. This isn't a 'let's all be nice whatever' thread. It's an 'I'm getting a justification for sour grapes in first' thread.

And the fact you're proudly waving your Tory insulting credentials around and chucking insults at anybody who points out that throwing insults for months then demanding that you are treated with sensitivity when you think you might lose is hypocritical - well that just compounds your hypocrisy and yet again shows how aggressive and abusive some left wing posters on here are when they are challenged:

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 08/06/2017 21:10

I am the OP, Bill.

I clarified afterwards that my "don't be a dickhead" was in reference to everyone.

I will re-clarify it again for you now, if you like.

Please everyone try your very hardest not to be a dickhead tomorrow regardless of who you voted for/whether you voted at all.

No doubt you'll now tell me that I only clarified it because you posted Hmm

demanding that you are treated with sensitivity when you think you might lose is hypocritical

I'm not demanding that I be treated with sensitivity tomorrow. I won't be anywhere near MN tomorrow, I'll be at work. What the heck, what's one more time. It would be absolutely lovely if no-one was a dickhead tomorrow, to make up for the last few weeks of us all being dickheads to each other.

Cool? Any more clarifiers you want me to add?

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 08/06/2017 21:13

Oh, and "months" is a bit of an exaggeration when the general election was only announced less than 2 months ago :)

Nice thought, but it'll not hold beyond the first post using the phrase 'heartless cunts'

BillSykesDog · 08/06/2017 21:16

Oh, and "months" is a bit of an exaggeration when the general election was only announced less than 2 months ago

You might want to look up what the definition of a plural is. Hint: it's anything more than one.

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 08/06/2017 21:18

Well, at least this thread has taught me that I'm being way too optimistic Grin

waitforitfdear · 08/06/2017 21:19

And so it begins Wink

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 08/06/2017 21:19

Whoever wins today will have such a hard job to do.

They will more likely be worrying, not gloating,

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 08/06/2017 21:20

You might want to look up what the definition of a plural is

A month and a half is not "months". Hmm

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 08/06/2017 21:31

I've lost. Probably badly. Shugs.

Still, at least I won't be cocked into 4th place by UKIP who didn't have a local candidate this time, so that's progress Wink

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 08/06/2017 21:32

bill

Election was called 51 days ago (ish)

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 08/06/2017 21:34

ovaries

Yes i agree, we can hope Grin

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 08/06/2017 21:34

Any loss of UKIP is good progress Somewhat Wink

Are you standing for election?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 08/06/2017 21:36

I must say though I'm still not over the Brexit referendum results.

BusyBeez99 · 08/06/2017 21:39

It will be like brexit all over again if labour loses. Moaning and whining from labour voters and throwing toys out of pram

You aren't going to stop that. However if it's the other way us Tory voters will take in our stride and wait for the told you so comments until the country is once again in debt after 5 years or labours magic money tree

TheoriginalLEM · 08/06/2017 21:39

Thank you OP. I am scared about how our country will go forward, whether my selected party wins or not. I loathe Teresa May for forcing this election. The country was in no way ready :-(

Busy your post is just the sort of arrogance i am hoping to avoid. We are in for a rough ride, whoever wins.

AnguaResurgam · 08/06/2017 21:48

"Busy your post is just the sort of arrogance i am hoping to avoid. We are in for a rough ride, whoever wins."

Though if your chosen side wins, you will be calm and optimistic. That might not lead to temperate posting if there is a barrage of insults (which is not the same as expressing concern).

I expect MN will be as unpleasant as is now, unfortunately, typical and thoughnI laud OP's sentiments, I really don't see the losing side as likely to be capable of that level,of tolerance. I hope very much I'll be proved wrong on that, but I'm not holding my breath.
