I've name changed for this as it will out me.

I'm a cake maker by trade, I'm fairly successful but recently did a cake that was extremely popular in my area and was shared lots of times which meant mynpage has become really popular.

I've just had a message from someone asking for a quote on that particular cake. I went on to their profile to check what area they were from and it clearly says on the profile that she is a professional cake maker with her own cake business - so basically a rival of mine.

I responded to the message and said what date did she need the cake for as I'm virtually fully booked over the next couple of months and she replied saying "I'm not fussed about the date, I will fit around you can you just provide me with a price please" I replied with "I will check the diary when I get home and let you know when I'm free" and she replied saying "ok but can you give me a price now?"

How do I respond to this? Part of me wants to say fuck off you just want to pinch my ideas and pricing but I know that it's not professional 😂

So mumsnetters - what would you say? And AIBU to tell her to bugger off Grin

privatepike it's an incredibly bitchy business! Clearly, you only have to be on MN a few times to realise that!
She's clearly lying. She's going to undercut you. I have no legal experience but I'd sort of always assumed what perry said but, unluckily for her, she's made it obvious now by contacting you. Me and DH work in the IT business, big contracts to big companies, our product itself is superior to many others so the way they try to muscle in on the business is to undercut on price. That's why our pricing structure is very, very closely guarded. No reason why that should be different for cakes.

SomeOtherFuckers · 08/06/2017 18:09

Tell her it's way higher than it was- she's trying to do the same thing cheaper, she'll put it down but not enough to compete w you c

haveacupoftea · 08/06/2017 18:10

Just ignore her. Who cares if you look unprofessional, she looks so unprofessional it hurts.

lazycrazyhazy · 08/06/2017 18:27

I would block her too

FloofyCat · 08/06/2017 18:40

A thread about a cake maker and an entitled person on Facebook ? With a play on Frozen in OP's username?

Has your childminder been anywhere near Chester Zoo? Wink

donajimena · 08/06/2017 18:46

yumscrum very apt timing your post. I had some employees who left me to set up on their own. I found out that they tried to pinch some customers and I was absolutely furious. I never fell out with them but wanted to. They didn't manage to pinch my customers and I forgot about it.
In the last 6 months we have been working alongside. I pass on things I can't/don't do and vice versa. I have had a lot of work put my way in recent months. It does help to have a contact in a similar line of work

EC22 · 08/06/2017 18:56

Much ado about nothing.
You should just have ignored her if you didn't want to give her a price.

kitkatspiderrat · 08/06/2017 19:03

double the price, see if she wants it still and if not a gen quote for herself she will shoot herself in the foot when she tries to undercut you but is still way off your price

fab cake btw, saw it on my fb newsfeed a few days ago

daisychainagain · 08/06/2017 19:14

LittleBeautyBelle · 08/06/2017 21:59

Perfect. See if she harangues you after that.

Froznheart · 08/06/2017 22:07

gherkin don't think that's mine.... I don't think I've done a 7 year old boys cake but I'm intrigued to know what you've found!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 09/06/2017 02:04

Floofy Is referring to a recent thread that turned out to be a troll, one who had also trolled this site about faked Chester zoo tickets and a childminder.

diddl · 09/06/2017 16:45

"I've just had to have a nose on Facebook for this cake. It is good!!"

How on earth have you managed to find it??

GherkinSnatch · 09/06/2017 16:47

I put "Chicken nugget cake" into the search bar diddl

GherkinSnatch · 09/06/2017 16:49

Excuse the funny cropping, but did it to keep the name out.

Help me respond to this message!
Sparklyglitter · 09/06/2017 17:33

Don't reply she isn't even trying to be nice! Xx

user1483875094 · 09/06/2017 17:34

PHWWW...... "" Just tell her £500 and when do you want it? Don't agonise over it, don't waste your good time over it... stop worrying over it! You have found her out, and she is clearly a sneaky monkey. Why on earth are you stressing about it, and wasting your time? Be bold. Tell her £500 - and could she pay a £250 deposit? That will shut her up, and she will get the message loud and clear!
