Broadcasting rules on ge are outdated

They can't say anything about the ge today because it could sway people, but social media is free to do whatever.

Surely if people were that easily swayed they should just ban it all together from talking on the radio. Its all people have been talking about for the last few weeks

No, the rules are not outdated.

Yes, a period of non-campaigning is useful a not least because it gives everyone a break as much as anything else.

Social media is not broadcasting, though , and so therefore doesn't need the same rules, though of course it still counts as publication and so libellous or hate posts could lead to prosecutions.

Owners of chat sites would have to take their own view on whether and how much comment/campaigning/haranguing will be allowed to stand on the day.
