To not vote tomorrow ?

notgivingin789 · 07/06/2017 22:48

I don't know who to vote for Sad.

I usually vote for labour but there's some polices I don't agree with and the conservatives are no better. Between the two, I wouldn't vote for either of them.

Am I alone in this ?

You might not love either Labour or Conservative, so who do you hate most? Then don't vote for the one you hate. Lesser of two evils.

Brokenme · 07/06/2017 22:56

What Labour policies don't you agree with?

ChasedByBees · 07/06/2017 22:57

Which of the other parties resonates for you? There must be one. The green party's video is interesting and applies to all those smaller parties and 'votes that don't count' in electing an MP.

Please do vote. I know this election isn't the most inspiring but vote anyway.

Not worried about the NHS or schools or elderly care or the environment?

You are never going to agree with all policies of a party, once you accept that, have a think. This is a very important election, don't not vote, don't cop out.

Brighteyes27 · 07/06/2017 23:01

Look what happened with Brexit and Trump in America perhaps if more people voted who didn't bother the results could have been very different.
I don't totally like or agree with either main party preferring Liberal but have been mulling it over for awhile and think I am going to have to vote labour if only to give the NHS a chance. I have a rare health condition and I am on a worldwide chat room (most on the site are Americans
And probably the richer Americans). When I hear the struggles they have with health/treatments/care/medication it's awful we all underestimate the NHS.

AtSea1979 · 07/06/2017 23:02

YANBU a lot of people I spoke to said they won't bother voting because they are as bad as each other.

elephantoverthehill · 07/06/2017 23:02

How many people campaigned for the 'common' people and women to vote? Use your vote.

HabbyHadno · 07/06/2017 23:02

I feel the same. I think I'm going to vote Lib Dem as I don't want to vote Con or Lab. it's either that or spoil my ballot and I don't want to feel like I've wasted a vote.

Brokenbiscuit · 07/06/2017 23:02

Which labour policies don't you agree with, OP?

notgivingin789 · 07/06/2017 23:03

Chase I resonated more with the lib dems but they are not a majority vote where I am. So it would be pointless ?

This may sound..upright.. but I don't agree with the University fees being free of charge. How would the courses fund themselves ? Would degrees become less valued ? ( not sure if that's the right term to use). Would student grants/ loans be diminished ? It just doesn't seem realistic and properly thought about.

YABU to not vote.

Vote for whoever you think would do the better job for the country or the most number of people.
Think beyond your own circumstances.

Gawd, I am repeating myself something rotten tonight. Apologies.
Going to bed.

Please vote.

Nanny0gg · 07/06/2017 23:05

Many people in many countries would not understand that stance as they have never been allowed to vote.

I think it is everyone's duty to vote. I wish it was compulsory.

ohforfoxsake · 07/06/2017 23:05

Or, would it make university education open to more people? Nurses for example? Paramedics?

Graduates are likely to earn more and pay more tax, paying more back into the system.

Children will get a decent meal every day during term time.

Everytimeref · 07/06/2017 23:05

Obviously your happy with a party who has only recieved 28% of the eligible vote making life changing decisions.

Ceto · 07/06/2017 23:06

YABU. If you don't agree with the Conservatives, given that they have the best chance of winning it's pretty important to vote for whoever stands the best chance of defeating the Conservative candidate in your constituency.

As for universities - of course degrees wouldn't be devalued by removing fees. I went to university in the days - not so long ago - of grants and no fees, and I can assure you that my degree course was a very high standard and my degree has always been very highly valued. It was realistic then, why wouldn't it be realistic now?

ohforfoxsake · 07/06/2017 23:07

If you don't vote you may not complain when you can't get a doctors appointment, when there are 40 children in a class or when it takes an hour for an ambulance to arrive.

notgivingin789 · 07/06/2017 23:07

I'm going to vote tomorrow, just a bit disheartened as I'm not really swayed by any parties. After Brexit and all that's been happening recently, I just felt a bit..disheartened.

OP posts:
justwhiisitwhosvotingtory · 07/06/2017 23:07

Universities never used to charge fees and we still valued the degrees!

Even if the candidate you vote for can't win. Your vote can still help the party nationally. The overall number of votes is taken into account for all sorts of things like how much airtime they get on the BBC. Have you ever wondered why UKIP gets so much coverage when they've got fewer MPs than the greens?

robindeer · 07/06/2017 23:07

Labour's manifesto is fully costed and they have provided the maths behind all of their policies. Their argument is that education has it's own intrinsic value and that a more educated populace is always a public good. Please don't be conned into thinking your vote doesn't count, it absolutely does. Please use it tomorrow, and let's see the end of the government who have sold off our NHS to their friends and stashed their wealth overseas to avoid paying tax. Please vote, and please vote Labour.

justwhiisitwhosvotingtory · 07/06/2017 23:08

So yes YABU not to vote!

Neverknowing · 07/06/2017 23:08

I agree with you about university op. I was told by a teacher at school that fees were brought in so degrees were more valued because only the people who really wanted to go to uni would go, ATM way too many people do degrees and we don't have enough manual workers (and then complain when people come here to do those jobs). A degree doesn't mean a lot anymore as everyone does them.
I'm voting labour though, wouldn't you be annoyed if you don't vote and we lose the NHS and other services? I think we need labour right now, I think things have gone too far right and then we can vote Tory again when we go too far left. There's no party I particularly agree with either.

DrEllie · 07/06/2017 23:09

I'm a university lecturer - I do feel that society is more productive if people are better educated. It is in everyone's interest to have a well educated population.

Brokenbiscuit · 07/06/2017 23:09

This may sound..upright.. but I don't agree with the University fees being free of charge. How would the courses fund themselves ? Would degrees become less valued ? The state would pay the tuition fees so the universities would not be worse off, but students would come out with fat less debt. I don't think degrees would be devalued - there were no tuition fees when I was at university but we still paid for our degrees in blood, sweat and tears!

Our economy needs a well educated workforce. Our society needs doctors, teachers and other professionals. I think it makes sense for us to cover this from general taxation, so that young people from all backgrounds have more equal access to educational opportunities.

FoxyRoxy · 07/06/2017 23:09

I don't agree with free uni fees for all, op, but I agree with 99% of the manifesto. Vote lib dem if that's who you want to vote for, all votes are counted and numbers are noted. Yabu not to vote.
