Please vote. I mean, it's none of my business, as I'm not in the UK. Though I have been following the run up to this election with great interest, as I have lots of family and friends there. And I know how I personally would like this election to go for the benefit of my family and friends. I won't go in to that though because being from elsewhere I of course don't get a say. And it's not really relevant.
And I know what it's like to feel like you're choosing from a gaggle of gobshites. The last GE here (in Ireland) I was so, so conflicted. I'd voted Labour since I was old enough to vote. Was an active member of the Labour party, and had actively campaigned for my local Labour candidate in the previous GE (and was fairly instrumental in helping him secure his seat as a TD). Last time around, I didn't know what to do. Was completely disillusioned with my sitting TD and the Labour party in general. Their manifesto aligned pretty closely with my views, though their weak stance on the 8th infuriated me. Sinn Fein had the manifesto that most closely aligned with my views. On almost every issue, in fact. But I have never and will never vote Sinn Fein. Or at least, not as long as Gerry Adams is still there. Then Fianna Fail and Fine Gael are far too right wing for me. I considered AAA-PBP (as they were called then) but ruled them out on the basis that I disagreed with their Euroscepticism, stance on a United Ireland, and, well, many other things.
I've never stood in a ballot box and hesitated, but that time I did. And it was horrible. I have always been secure in my decision making but this time I felt like I was choosing from the lesser of eejits. But I still voted, and chose the least bad option.
Decisions are made by those who show up.
And I'm going to sound so annoying and preach-y, but to me, voting isn't just a right, it's a responsibility.
