I'm saturated. So here's a lighthearted thread.
What food takes you right back to being a kid?
Mine might be salad cream sandwiches on cheap white bread! Yum.

My DF used to have a job putting the bags of salt in crisp packets when he was young!

You can still get them.

Remember in the 80's they did a stint of "flavour and shake", where you got a packet of flavouring instead of salt? I never got to try those either, but other kids at school did Angry

Screwballs, is that what they were called? Ice cream in a plastic cone with a bubble gum at the bottom.

Boil in the bag cod slice with parsley sauce. Though this one is a bad memory.

Chip butties 😋

Haven't had one in years, mind Sad

Fish and chips played a huge party of my childhood. It was the first British meal I ever had when we first arrived in the country - we picked it up on the way back from the airport - and then every Saturday night was the same:
Football pools (during which you dared not move!), then Basil Brush, Generation Game, 2 Ronnies and fish and chips for tea!

Angelicinnocent · 07/06/2017 19:21

Bananas and custard cold, tastes better than it sounds
Red jelly made in a rabbit mould with a dollop of cream for its tail
"Doorstep" slices of bread toasted in front of the coal fire with proper butter on

Louiselouie0890 · 07/06/2017 20:03

Ketchup butties

P.s I can't wait till all the sodding politics thread do one.

Dandandandandandandan · 07/06/2017 20:06

Angelic - did you ever have Manchester tart?

Pastry base with jam, then sliced bananas and then topped with custard. It was delicious!

Sunshinegirls · 07/06/2017 20:09

Angelicinnocent, you've just made me remember toasting slices of white bread against the gas fire using a fork. Had totally forgotten about this, great memories!

I remember getting some Winter Mixture and Aniseed twists from the sweet shop and my dad telling me they used to be his favourites.

I was so surprised: I could just about accept that he was once a little boy, but surely they never had our sweets in those days?!! ShockGrin
