AIBU to use this on my gas hob

I want to make a pan of soup and can't find my big soup pan but I have this 👇

It's metal but I'm not sure if I can use it on top of my gas hob, can anyone advise? I'm really craving thick soup with lots of bread covered in my body weight in butter 😬

I'd think you could use it.
Make sure to have a cloth or tea towel over your hands when lifting the lid or touching the handles.
Maybe extra stirring to make sure soup doesn't stick to bottom and sides

It is meant as a pot?

Depends on the base

This is the base 👇

I normally use it on the oven to keep my roast potatoes or veg hot whilst I'm cooking the rest of dinner.

I wouldn't after seeing the base

Is it enamel? What else would it be for if not for use on the hob? I have enamel pans that I have used on gas and electric hobs. If it's ceramic then no, it's to go in the oven.

CecilyBlue · 06/06/2017 13:53

Thank you all, it is ceramic but I've managed to track my soup pan down, my Dad has it and he's going to drop it round so can get my soup bread and a tonne of butter fix 🙈

I'll know for the future now it can only be used in the oven.

Thanks again 😊

You can't use enamel on the direct heat. Oven is ok.

Sorry I meant it's enamel not ceramic 🙈

My flameproof casserole is enamel and works fine on the gas.

That's why I got it, I can use it in the oven and as a pan on the hob.

Very useful if you start by browning onions and then put the pot in the oven with the other ingredients.

so it's enamelled metal? It has the look of pressed steel rather than cast iron, so it will be very inclined to catch and burn on the base, which doesn't look thickened.

Usually enamel pans intended for the hob are black on the bottom. But that might be because all the ones I had were iron and I think that was due to the manufacturing process.
