To bloody love wearing a suit every day? (lighthearted)

I'm SLT in a secondary school and wear a trouser suit to work everyday. I do change it to a skirt suit or smart dress and blazer occasionally, but trouser suits remain my ultimate favourite - particularly black ones.

I've always wondered why more women - or at least the women I know - don't wear them. They're comfortable, suit every body size and can be worn with heels or flats. Oh, and my personal favourite - they make you look powerful as hell.

Anyone other trouser-suited devotees on MN or just me?

Great post, OP. I wore a suit to work for about 10 years. I loved it as well. Easy dressing, straightforward choices and I didn't feel odd in contrast to all the suited male colleagues. I even had maternity suits.

I haven't worn one in 14 years. Enjoy! Wink

RtHonMistress · 05/06/2017 16:36

Thank you Buns! Glad to know I'm not the only suit aficionado Wink

Don't think I've ever seen a maternity one though - worth having baby #5 so I can buy one, perhaps?

I'd love to have a 'uniform' of suits but my work place isn't formal enough! starts job hunt

Iamsounreasonable · 05/06/2017 16:44

I hate it.
I feel so depressed seeing myself in "work clothes" in the mirror.

It feels so unnatural to me, like I'm wearing a school uniform again.

DontCallMeBaby · 05/06/2017 19:30

I bought a suit for the first time in years over the summer, not worn it yet but I am looking forward to it. However - the problem I find with suits is the trousers need washing all the time, the jackets don't AND they generally need dry cleaning. So you either get trousers that wear more than the jacket, or you needlessly (expensively, faffily) dry clean trousers that could be washed and jackets that aren't dirty.

Plus being short and busty I don't have the most suit-friendly body. Fortunately I work somewhere where jeans, tshirt, blazer, and Converse is acceptable workwear.

bbcessex · 05/06/2017 19:35

I'm with you OP (although my love possibly stems from the Crystal Carrington days of the power suit ).

I love suits.. trouser suits, dresses with jackets, the odd skirt suit (but not many). Always have heels in my bag to change into.

Dress down Fridays - I usually wear a jacket and jeans (and scarf and accessories) - I love being smart and you're right it's like armour - ooh, the power!!!!

Urgh! I detest suits. I have utterly massive breasts, big bottom with a much smaller waist. Suits do NOT fit everyone. I either look like a porn star or sack of potatoes.

I work at a school too and favour a nice pair of wife leg trousers and a flattering top - much better for the likes of me.

Op, I don't because it's not 2001 anymore which is when we all wore trouser suits. Unless I'm behind the times and they're 'back in' - which wouldn't surprise me...

TheSnorkMaidenReturns · 05/06/2017 19:46

I've huge norks and feel I look like Miss Trunchball in suits. I've tried many. Work was a lot more formal when I younger so I did wear them then, but personally I'm happier in a dress than a suit. Horses for courses, surely?

morningconstitutional2017 · 05/06/2017 19:47

As a teenager I hated the uniform of bottle green blazer and pleated skirt but as an adult I agree that suits with either trousers or a smart dress look fabulous and give the right image of looking business like.

Moanyoldcow · 05/06/2017 19:47

YES Snork - like a bulldog. So not a good look.

livingthegoodlife · 05/06/2017 19:48

Hate trouser suits. Love shift dresses with matching jacket though.

flumpybear · 05/06/2017 19:49

I used to think it was cool of me to wear suits, now I just feel it's me trying to look like a bloke so I tend to wear trousers and nice tops - don't really do skirts

Crumbs1 · 05/06/2017 19:50

I'm afraid they really, really don't suit all body shapes. A nice skirt suit and plain pastel shirt now.....

ScreamingNotWaving · 05/06/2017 19:50

Skirt suits, trouser suits or my now favourite, dress suits or just dress plus jacket. Look smart and powerful, not just some tubby, middle aged lady (I'm not your mum). Brill!

wrinkleseverywhere · 05/06/2017 19:50

I love wearing suits to work. They are my armour and I know I can never be incorrectly dressed in them. Trouser suits are my nemesis though as I am short and have an incredibly large bottom.
To the previous poster who complained about the cleaning of them - if I do find a trouser suit that fits, I always get two pairs of trousers and one jacket. If men buy made to measure suits, this is standard and, on shopping with an ex-boyf one day, I realised it made a lot of sense.

JennyHolzersGhost · 05/06/2017 19:52

Yup! I love pant suits. I also love that Hillary Clinton's twitter blog says 'pantsuit aficionado' Grin
They are just easy. I don't care if I look like a sack of spuds. Seasonally adaptable, appropriate for all situations and no thoight required - that's what I want from my work uniform. I don't want to look physically attractive or show off my 'assets' (such as they are). Short, square and dumpy is fine by me as long as I look professional. That's what I'm going for.

JennyHolzersGhost · 05/06/2017 19:52

*biog not blog

JennyHolzersGhost · 05/06/2017 19:54

And I absolutely hate wearing skirts or dresses of any kind.
For dress down Friday I wear black skinnies or navy chinos with a blouse and suit jacket. Maybe with white trainers if I don't have external meetings.

StillDrivingMeBonkers · 05/06/2017 19:55

Trouser suits are far too masculine.

Skirt suits are far more professional (IMHO)

Coddiwomple · 05/06/2017 19:56

Love them, it's so much easier to get dressed in the morning. I sometimes buy 2 trousers for 1 jacket. I don't find them uncomfortable at all, they are just too expensive to wear at home. It's like anything, if you buy the right item, it's fine.

Everybody wears them around me, so unfortunately it doesn't really feel that powerful, just practical. I have the odd dress for casual days but they don't feel the same, and it's so much faff: not too short, not too long, not too tight. Suits are just easy and an excuse to buy a collection of shoes and handbags to jazz them up,

weeblueberry · 05/06/2017 19:59

Sadly I don't suit suits! Short with big boobs and big bum doesn't look good in a suit I'm afraid! I wish I did though!!

JennyHolzersGhost · 05/06/2017 19:59

I love being far too masculine WineHalo

Coddiwomple · 05/06/2017 20:09

I don't look remotely masculine even in a strict formal black suit.
