To bloody love wearing a suit every day? (lighthearted)

I'm SLT in a secondary school and wear a trouser suit to work everyday. I do change it to a skirt suit or smart dress and blazer occasionally, but trouser suits remain my ultimate favourite - particularly black ones.

I've always wondered why more women - or at least the women I know - don't wear them. They're comfortable, suit every body size and can be worn with heels or flats. Oh, and my personal favourite - they make you look powerful as hell.

Anyone other trouser-suited devotees on MN or just me?

Trouser suits most definitely don't suit everyone! I have lots of skirt and dress suits which I do suit though and are 'easy' in the morning as require very little thinking. I do hate the hassle and cost of dry cleaning though!

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 05/06/2017 20:29

Also SLT and refuse to wear a suit - I hate them. I wear black trousers and either a long top or jumper. I might put a jacket on if it is Parents Night.

NCISgeek · 05/06/2017 20:35

I love wearing a uniform for work. it's not flattering but it makes me feel professional and competent. I'm a different person when I'm wearing it.

Rawhh · 05/06/2017 20:53

They do not suit me.

The most unflattering things I have ever worn - whilst I am at my current weight. When I'm alot skinnier they look amazing.

On a different note I don't find them comfortable for every day wear.

SparklyLeprechaun · 05/06/2017 20:58

Aren't they a bit old fashioned? I remember wearing them about 15 years ago but I don't see them around that much anymore. I'm happy to wear trousers and a blazer but I feel old in a suit. Mind you, I'm no style guru so what do I know?

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 05/06/2017 21:03

I don't like trousers but I had a brief period of wearing tailored suits. You can wear a skirt suit or a dress with heels or flats as the mood takes but if trousers can be worn with heels they will be too long to wear with flats so they are less flexible than skirts or dresses.

They absolutely don't suit everyone.

I love formal clothes and am always very dressy for work but never trousers. I ignore dressed down days (most of my non work clothes are more dressed up than many colleagues work clothes anyway)

snowgirl1 · 05/06/2017 21:08

I agree with SparklyLeprechaun they're a bit old-fashioned. Jacket/blazer and trousers (like this, yes. Matching suit, no.

OCSockOrphanage · 05/06/2017 21:13

Suits are on their way back. You have been warned. I've seen a few on fashion pages. And, yes, when you find one that flatters, buy a second pair of trousers, or a matching skirt. Thank me later, ext year!

nina2b · 05/06/2017 21:14

I think it's a bit mannish, personally.

Luckyaide · 05/06/2017 21:15

Just out of curiosity OP, am assuming that you don't feel that wearing a suit doesn't in anyway impact negatively on your work with children/young people?

Namechange250 · 05/06/2017 21:15

What's an SLT ?

Silvertap · 05/06/2017 21:16

I'm a farmer and would LOVE to wear a suit. I'd dress like the chief of staff lady in designated survivor!

OnlyRose · 05/06/2017 21:18

I hate trouser suits. And skirt suits. They look smart on most people but I always just look scruffy. I am not well groomed enough to rock a suit. Give me a nice dress any day!

BaffledMummy · 05/06/2017 21:18

I recall having a variety of trouser suits when I first started working in 1999 and I felt and (i think!) looked good in them - they suited my shape. Have spent the last few years wearing dresses to work with a nice cardi. I am a bit worried I no longer have the bod to make them look good but will be mooching around the shops now to see if they are indeed due a comeback - and hoping that my post childbirth body shape still suits a suit (unlikely but will give it a go!)

SaucyJack · 05/06/2017 21:19

YABU to call it a trouser suit. I love the word pantsuit. It sounds more and more ridiculous the more you read it.

(Oh- and here's the pantsuit champion modelling a pantsuit rainbow. Pantsuit pantsuit pantsuit)

Hardly see any women in suits in the city these days, even lawyers. Would say most trader/analyst men are in shirt, trousers and jumper these days. Rarely a tie in sight.

The only suits I see regularly around the city are worn by 6th formers in pretentious schools or schools aspiring to pretention.

Or estate agents.

NewStateswoman · 05/06/2017 21:26

It's a very 'Next 1996' look isn't it? They often look a bit cheap, don't fit all that well, and worn with a generic blouse just looks a bit naff and lazy, in my opinion.

Sorry OP!

Whathaveilost · 05/06/2017 21:29

I hate wearing firmal clothes.
Thankfully for work i can wear virtually anything as long as it uis s decent. I tend to weat either jeans or wude leg linen trousers and t shirts with trainers.

Firenight · 05/06/2017 21:31

I used to wear them circa 2000- 2003; had a fabulous purple trouser suit. But definitely not something you see much now and I think dresses suit my post baby body much better!

StealthPolarBear · 05/06/2017 21:32

My hems never stayed up. No matter how expensive the trousers :(

OCSockOrphanage · 05/06/2017 21:32

Seriously, the suit is making a comeback. It doesn't mean you can get the old ones back out of the wardrobe. No, these will be made from unicorn skins and give you supernatural powers.

Whoops, thought that hadn't posted. Blush

Panda81 · 05/06/2017 21:37

OP what makes you think they suit all body sizes?!
