To bloody love wearing a suit every day? (lighthearted)

I'm SLT in a secondary school and wear a trouser suit to work everyday. I do change it to a skirt suit or smart dress and blazer occasionally, but trouser suits remain my ultimate favourite - particularly black ones.

I've always wondered why more women - or at least the women I know - don't wear them. They're comfortable, suit every body size and can be worn with heels or flats. Oh, and my personal favourite - they make you look powerful as hell.

Anyone other trouser-suited devotees on MN or just me?

I'm definitely a dress person. I just find them easier - it's one thing, you always match, it takes 5 seconds to put on - although finding the tights can be an issue...

Love a good suit :). Don't work in an office that asks for business wear now, so would look fairly daft rocking up in the favourite dark blue, slim fitting suit. Sad

Sorry, 34H chest means no suit unless tailored for me will fit decently.

I feel a pair of tailored trousers and a fitted top looks a lot better on me than any attempt to wear a jacket.

I do hope you aren't right about suits.

I could never get on with "smart skirts". When you're a pear shape, pencil type skirts are always too lose on the waist and too tight on the tops of the legs, so with every step you take they start to swivel round so if you are not careful, you end up with the zip at the front.

"Smart" clothes also by definition need to be accompanied with "smart shoes" and I am now at an age where I refuse to wear anything that causes me pain. Comfortable shoes for some reason always seem to be made with nubuck leather which doesn't go well with sharp dressing.

I also don't think that suits cope with all weathers. You look a bit of a plonker with them buttoned up when you are sitting down but many offices are so air-conditioned that I need to be cosy.

Thank goodness I work somewhere where clean jeans, a t-shirt and cardi will do.

For the person wondering about rain, I mostly get to work on foot, in car or by bus/train. In the winter I wear knee boots with my dresses. I believe Mumsnet Fashion Police decry these as 'mumboots' but I don't give a monkeys.

OP, what is this website you mention? I am short, of large nork, as previously mentioned, and my 1990s trouser suits were tailored for me. I still look like Miss Trunchball in them.

Yesterday 21:26 NewStateswoman

It's a very 'Next 1996' look isn't it? They often look a bit cheap, don't fit all that well, and worn with a generic blouse just looks a bit naff and lazy, in my opinion.

Sorry OP!

Yes or the "corporate image" suits and blouses worn by bank and building society staff.

Also work in a school. Wear trousers and jacket most days. Jackets are great because they have pockets so can stuff pens, keys, fobs and tissues in them. Far more practical than lugging a bag around. Also means I can wear zappy socks. I loathe tights and can't walk quickly enough in 'lady shoes' for my liking so socks and lace ups for me. I do have peculiar feet which means 'normal' women's shoes don't fit me. I have to have a lace, or bar strap across. Hence trousers are more suitable. I do occasionally rock a dress or skirt but still generally keep the jacket for the pockets. Long cardigans are also good but I have the sort of job where it would be very easy to fall into the category of 'the nice lady in the flowery skirt' and I don't want that profile as what I do is a lot more than that.

RtHonMistress · 06/06/2017 11:27

I take my car to work everyday. It's only a fifteen minute walk, but I always have so much crap with me and children to drop off at various places on the way - not to mention the fact that I'm normally in heels and the weather here is more likely than not to be terrible.

I definitely prefer a black suit to grey. My best form-fitting black one comes out for parents' nights, awards ceremonies and days when I just need a little confidence boost.
