What's acceptable to take from a hotel stay?

cheesychops · 04/06/2017 21:01

Just reading the magazines in the hotel room and wondering- is it acceptable to take these home with me?!?

Also wondering what hotel goodies people generally snaffle home after a hotel stay.

Personally, I'll be taking the posh 'ground coffee bags' and the packets of biscuits BiscuitGrin, but will probably leave the miniature toiletries as they always hang around and don't get used...

I have a small collection of Corby trouser presses

L'occitane stuff is definitely the same as what you buy, don't think molton brown is and v sure clarins stuff isn't i think.

BunsBumpBlur · 04/06/2017 22:17

Ah, yes, it is the Molton that is rubbish in hotels.

moggiek · 04/06/2017 22:21

I hope you complained, Groovee!!

glenthebattleostrich · 04/06/2017 22:24

We once accidentally stole a towel from a premier inn. DD was 'helping' with the packing and decided to put a hand towel in the holdall. We'd already checked it and she added it after. They were very confused when I called and asked if I should post it up (catholic guilt).

Toileteries get taken to give to either the womens shelter or the homeless shelter. If there is a sewing kit that comes with me too.

Theresnonamesleft · 04/06/2017 22:25

Amateurs. You forgot take the light bulbs but leave the lamps.

NotAMammy · 04/06/2017 22:26

Where are you staying with the L'Occitane and Clarins stuff?
I take nice toileteries (the Hilton in Belfast has gorgeous citrusy stuff and I also like the Molton Brown that's apparently not Molton Brown black pepper stuff. Once I had the Molton Brown lipbalm and it was amazing)
And biscuits for the trip home, obviously.

viques · 04/06/2017 22:27

Laundry bags are very useful for travelling, to pack shoes and washing in, not together natch. Shoe cleaning kits seem to have gone the way of the dinosaur, as do sewing kits. Much missed. I am also partial to a bit of stationery, eg writing paper ,envelopes ,postcards if I am lucky, and post its, but don't usually take pens

potatoesofthenight · 04/06/2017 22:28

The shower caps are good for covering bowls of food and dying hair.

LouHotel · 04/06/2017 22:32

I shit you not ive had guests take the hairdryers, robes and a bloody lamp before!

29Palms · 04/06/2017 22:33

I wish more hotels would put decaff tea and coffee in the rooms

It's always worth asking at reception, as they may have it.

I usually ask for more of something, eg I might use the teabags but not the coffee. They are usually happy to give you plenty more in my experience.

It was a bugger getting the four poster out.

When DD got married our gift to her was to have an antique four poster bed that had been in DH's family for several generations restored for her guest room. We borrowed my son's pick-up truck and traveled from Florida to Illinois to deliver said bed. We had to spend one night in a motel in Kentucky, and as I was afraid that someone might try to steal the bed out of the truck, I made DH bring it and the mattress into the room for the night. The next morning we left very early, and as the night manager was leaving, he saw us dragging a mattress out of the room and into the truck. He did politely inquire.

Siwdmae · 04/06/2017 22:38

Never take anything. I don't use shampoo and I need a lot of conditioner to tame the curls.

Panda81 · 04/06/2017 22:40

I took this little fella just this weekend!!

What's acceptable to take from a hotel stay?
requestingsunshine · 04/06/2017 22:47

The hotels I generally stay in have the all in one body wash and shampoo in a pump container bolted to the shower wall.

Those things are so bloody hard to remove!

2rebecca · 04/06/2017 22:48

Very little. I have enough mini bottles for travelling and tend to use my own stuff in them when the little bottles are empty. If I'm going to a hotel I usually use theirs so not much left anyway. Some people seem to take stuff for the sake of taking it.

BunsBumpBlur · 04/06/2017 22:49

Panda81 but every time you look at ducky, isn't all you can think that you stole him?

(Or are duckies for the taking?)

I've not been to a duckie hotel.

2rebecca · 04/06/2017 22:49

Taking stuff just to give away is just putting up hotel prices for the sake of it. Get a different hobby that doesn't affect other people's holiday budget, different if you actually need the stuff.

BunsBumpBlur · 04/06/2017 22:53

Someone said upthread that consumables are just binned if not used. So taking consumables for future use is better than letting them be binned.

wowfudge · 04/06/2017 22:55

You are not stealing if you take the consumable stuff. You won't be charged extra for using, or taking, the showergel, shortbread and the cotton buds - but it's been costed in to the room rate.

BringMeTea · 04/06/2017 22:57

Were you in a Conrad Panda?

OliviaBenson · 04/06/2017 23:04

Do you remember that thread about stealing toiletries where the op was making out it was part of the experience and then the hotel manager came on to explain they had nicked large bottles which were secured of Moulton and Brown? It was hilarious how the tide turned against the op!

BunsBumpBlur · 04/06/2017 23:04

😂

IloveBanff · 04/06/2017 23:04

Siwdmae "I don't use shampoo and I need a lot of conditioner to tame the curls."

You don't use shampoo? Confused

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 04/06/2017 23:12

I used to work at a hilton - people would steal pillows, dressing gowns, even duvets! Shock
