What's acceptable to take from a hotel stay?

Just reading the magazines in the hotel room and wondering- is it acceptable to take these home with me?!?

Also wondering what hotel goodies people generally snaffle home after a hotel stay.

Personally, I'll be taking the posh 'ground coffee bags' and the packets of biscuits BiscuitGrin, but will probably leave the miniature toiletries as they always hang around and don't get used...

I only pinch little bottles of shampoo etc. PROVIDED they have a flip top. That is my criteria for robbing things. They are great for decanting shampoo conditioner and moisturiser etc on a hand luggage only trip.

If the top has to be unscrewed forget it.

Otherwise they are usually the perfect size for a couple of days away.

The little roundy bar soaps are also good for a pinch. They are not counted as liquids on the plane! I have six left now. They are great.

Hotels don't throw out unused consumables. Only opened ones, ime

DH once stayed at Soho Farmhouse and in his room he had full sized bottles of Cow Shed Products, bottles of alcohol and bars of chocolate etc. He brought the chocolate for me but refused to bring the toiletries. I told him that at £450 a night they probably expected them to be taken by the guests.

Sadly as it was a work thing I will never get to experience such luxury with him.

If you take cowshed stuff, its cost is taken off your credit card.

I am always really grateful for the mini toiletries as ASD daughter cannot resist emptying out my shower gel, moisturizer etc in her sensory seeking behaviour.

Since I started having to travel regularly she - and I - are ever so grateful for the steady supply of "her" playthings, which smell nicer than mine as all my money goes on her and the accommodation Grin

So those of you who work in hotels, rest assured your mini bottles are very much appreciated by someone!

(She likes the biscuits too. When they don't get reduced to crumbs in my handbag.)

I don't use shampoo either banff. Quite common amongst curly haired people.

What do you wash your hair with if you don't use shampoo?

The 'brand' shampoo in my favourite hotel costs $25.00 per 370 ml bottle in the gift shop (or online) as does the conditioner, body wash and lotion. You bet I'm taking those tiny bottles home! We also stash them and ask for them to be replenished every day so we can 'stock up'. The hotel charges enough per night to afford it.

If you take the mini toiletries and later wonder where you'll put them, please donate them to the oncology unit of your nearest hospital! I have spent unexpected time in one and hadn't brought any toiletries with me and I was so happy to be given mini shampoos/ soap/ toothpaste etc by the nurse

when I was a teenager I was involved in a project that involved lots of staying in hotels, money was really tight one trip and it was my mums birthday the day I got back, there were 14 of us, plus youth workers, so I went round all my friends rooms pinching their biscuits and toiletries every day and gave her a carrier bag of freebies Grin The guidance I was given by the youth worker was if they are going to chuck it when you leave you can take it but kettles, towels, bedding and TVs is going too far.

Lol at the people thinking they're being rebellious taking the toiletries. They are there for you to take, they want you to take them. 'Use what you need and leave it there' Grin yeah cause they're totally gonna use what's left :S youre wasting it if you leave them there they'll go straight in bin.

Hmm so I may end up leaving everything and buying the hotel staff some biscuits now.
Baby just pooped all on our bed (mid nappy change 😩).
The Friends episode gives no advice for etiquette in this kind of scenario...

I stayed at quite a posh hotel on the South Bank (The Mondrian) where thry. Had very nice decent sized tubes of Malin+Goetz shower gel, body lotion ,shampoo and conditioner. Also (payable) condoms, popcorn, sweeties, snack things and other bits and pieces.
My best haul was from a 4* hotel in Tokyo where along with the usual toiletries there were amazing little bottles of Shiseido face products, hair tonic, folding handbag-sized hairbrushes, toothpaste and brushes as well as shaving stuff and slippers. There was loads of it. We didn't take the kimonos, though!

Some hotels now put shampoo, shower gel and other things in large bottles so as not to waste them, and probably to keep people from taking them home.

If I can take the toiletries, I do take things like shampoo and shower gel .

Top tip. Hire a van for the weekend, then make sure you get the bathroom suit, bed side cabinets, bed, mattress, duvets, and don't forget the coat hangers, carpet and lightbulbs. You've paid for it all innit?

cheesy dd2 (who cosleeps)projectile vomited on our bed in hotel a couple of weeks ago, she's only 2 and I stripped cover instantly to try and save the actual duvet but I'm sure they thought one of us had been drinking and blamed her even though her bed clearly hadn't been touched

@BunsBumpBlur it was my first Duckie hotel!
The duck itself didn't say not to take and I figured there is just as much hygiene issue with a rubber duck as with the toiletries! Imagine if the ducks are used in a bath and then kept for the next person Grin
