To think maybe I could wear a swimsuit?

Hi there, I'm a regular but name changed for this. I'm off on holidays to Italy with dh and two teen daughters. I'm currently a size 18/20 and
Very thigh heavy. I've lost 1.5 stone but it's a drop in the ocean. Inspired by a previous tread on here by someone going to Disneyland and worrying about what to wear, I've taken on-board some of the advice and got myself a pretty decent holiday wardrobe and most importantly comfy foot wear. I'm pretty pleased with what I've got and feeling happy with that side of it
However we're going to a campsite which has really decent water parks and activities. Dh wouldn't be bothered about any of that but my dds will and so would I if I weren't so heavy. I'd resigned myself to just lying beside the pool and not taking part but I think it'd be pretty unreasonable of me not to join in when my dds ask. So what I'm asking is, is can anyone recommend swim wear that looks ok on heavier women and also if I'm been unreasonable to think it's ok to reveal so much of myself to the unsuspecting public?

Good work OP.

What other people notice around a pool is confidence. You notice the people who scurry-hurry to wrap their towel around them, hunched over and looking as if they'd like to disappear. A d you notice the ones who stride along looking fab with their matching nails and toes and a big smile, dropping wet and having fun.

You'll be grand!

I'm a 24 and Yours normally has a few nice options! I know you're sorted out but you might want another next year! 😀

The only person people are concerned with at the beach is themselves

@LoveMyLittleSuperhero I bloody love that! Smile

I really don't think anyone will be staring at you thinking about your weight. I'm not saying I don't stare at people. I do, quite often, and sometimes I suddenly realise I've made them self-conscious. But I am not thinking about their weight. I am doing one of:

  1. Staring vacantly into space while mentally cursing my dentist / nursery / husband (this is 90%!)
  2. Envying their haircut/eyebrows;
  3. Thinking OMG they look just like that girl from school;
  4. Wondering where I could buy clothes in the colour of their outfit;
  5. Trying to read their tattoo...

You get the idea.

Try SimplyBe - they do great swimwear in your size plus if you google discounts you are likely to find a 10-20 percent off discount code.

Haven't read all the replies but you should definitely wear a swimsuit if you want to. I would never look at a plus-size woman and think 'she shouldn't wear that'. If anything, I would be envious of their body confidence. I have dieted from a 16 to a 10-12 and still feel self-conscious but I know that really nobody's looking at me because they're too busy either having fun or worrying about what they look like. Have a good time 🙂

Im a size 20 and have just bought this www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01LW1COX6/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1496698903&sr=1-1&pi=SL140_CR0,0,140,180

It is honestly the first swimsuit i have put on in my life and thought "wow, i actually look good!" apart from wobbly thighs

Claireshh · 05/06/2017 22:46

I'm a size 16 and have really big thighs.

This swimsuit is the most flattering I've found.

I think it not being in 'slimming' black is a big plus. I personally don't find black swimsuits that flattering on a curvier figure.

I also think you just have to think f it and walk with your head held high and bugger what anyone thinks. It's far better to have a wonderful time with your family.

I've just come back from 2 weeks holiday abroad..I wore a swimsuit and I didn't worry..I used to be a size 28..I'm an 18 now..every time I have been abroad I have found that they don't worry about size the same way we do..they wear anything..bikinis, whatever, and they just get on with living and enjoy themselves. I admire them for that, and think we could learn a lot in that respect. So, with love, I say go, put on your cossie, don't worry about it, and blooming well enjoy yourself!

FatGirlWithChocolate · 05/06/2017 22:58

Oh, and I got a lovely costume from Next, but made by Fat face, navy top, striped bottom, and it's nice and flattering and good quality.
