MiMiMaguire · 03/06/2017 23:34

Due to travel to Spain for 2 weeks soon with DH and DD... Am really terrified of a terrorist attack at a tourist spot/beach , really feel like not going (at the loss of over 2k) and staying put where I feel safer..my DH wouldn't feel the same I really am afraid. Really hope there are no fatalaties in London tonight, Hope everyone is ok.

I would think it's unlikely you'd be caught up in something but I understand the fear - a holiday is meant to be fun and if you wouldn't feel safe it's counter productive.

namechange20050 · 03/06/2017 23:38

You're probably safer in Spain than here...

elQuintoConyo · 03/06/2017 23:38

I live here. Nothing going on. Zip.

Am taking ds to London at the end of the month. We'll be fine. You'll be fine.

witchofzog · 03/06/2017 23:39

I understand you are scared. Particularly after Manchester and tonight. But this could happen again anywhere. Yes on a Spanish beach but also on your local high street or supermarket. I saw on a tv programme recently there is a 1 in 22 million chance of being involved in a terrorist attack. £2k is a lot of money. Go but go prepared. Have a plan similar to a fire plan of what you would do in the event of something happenning. And then have a lovely holiday. The chances of being involved are slim

MoominFlaps · 03/06/2017 23:41

The problem is this could happen anywhere. Literally anywhere.

Your chances of being caught up in something, even now, are very very small.

Charlieismydarlin · 03/06/2017 23:41

You are not being unreasonable to worry but I feel Spain is probably safer than the UK at present.

Xxx

Ravenblack · 03/06/2017 23:47

DO NOT let the terrorists win.

You are no more likely to be caught up in a terrorist attack abroad than you are to get caught in one here.

I was worried sick when my niece went on a backpacking trip over 13 countries in Europe and North Africa several years ago, and she was fine.

Yet 22 people died (sadly) at a pop concert just down the road from where they live.

No point in letting terror rule your life. The fuckers have won if you do this!

Golondrina · 03/06/2017 23:50

I live in Spain. Feel safer here than in the U.K..

SwedishEdith · 03/06/2017 23:57

It could happen anywhere. I had to travel into Manchester day after attack. It simply didn't occur to me not to go there. The risk to you is tiny.

edwinbear · 03/06/2017 23:59

I'd rather be in Spain than the UK given recent events. You are being a bit melodramatic.

Floralnomad · 04/06/2017 00:02

I think we need to get things in perspective , 8 young people have been stabbed to death in south London so far this year , it barely makes the news . You are more likely to be killed in the car on the way to the airport than on the actual holiday by a terrorist .

MistySparrow · 04/06/2017 00:02

Have some empathyEdwin. She's anxious not melodramatic.

expatinscotland · 04/06/2017 00:03

YABU.

Crispmonster1 · 04/06/2017 00:05

The risk of it happening to you are very small. Plane crash, heart attack, aortic aneurism, hit by a bus etc much more likely. It's not something you can avoid or plan for. Just live your life.

DramaAlpaca · 04/06/2017 00:05

I was in Spain on holiday in a touristy area a couple of weeks ago. It felt very safe there.

SlothMama · 04/06/2017 00:08

Don't let the terrorists win, have a great time in Spain.
I was in Berlin during the Christmas market attacks, I left them 20 minutes before the lorry hit. I was also in Stockholm when the van hit those people.
I won't let the terrorists stop me from travelling or doing my job!

sweetbabboo · 04/06/2017 00:10

Where would it end though? You'd stop doing anything or going anywhere. Manchesters attack (my home city) gave me the push to book a holiday in a Turkey, if the cunts are going to attack they'll get you anywhere.

pigeondujour · 04/06/2017 00:16

Spain withdrew from the Middle East after Madrid, no? And there's been no terrorist attacks there since?

caroldecker · 04/06/2017 00:17

At the Manchester bombing, 22 guests died and 120 injured. based on a capacity crowd of 21,000, even people at the concert had:

  1. 0.1% (1 in 1,000) chance of death
  2. 0.6% (6 in 1,000) chance of injury

That is the risk for people at the scene of an incident - you are at no risk, don't be fucking stupid

pigeondujour · 04/06/2017 00:18

Oh, maybe that's not right actually. Still, I'd feel safer there than in the UK. Even still, the risk is so so small.

sweetbabboo · 04/06/2017 00:25

Is the dont be fucking stupid really necessary?!

ArtemisiaGentilleschi · 04/06/2017 00:26

YABU.

Maria1982 · 04/06/2017 00:30

I understand your fear ... but for what it's worth I'm flying to Spain next week. It wouldn't cross my mind to change my plans. To be honest I would be more worrried about commuting in to London on a daily basis and I've done that too...

I hope you manage to go and enjoy yourself.

Vroomster · 04/06/2017 00:34

It's not silly to be worried but an attack could happen anywhere. I went to see Take That a couple of days ago, security was higher and was more noticeable but we had a good time.

Kursk · 04/06/2017 00:42

Spain is probably safer than the UK right now. I would go
