Hi all, I would really appreciate insights on this matter.
My previous boss just sent me a message saying that my current employer requested some references about me. Thats ok and I understand its usual but I've been working for this company for over 4 weeks now so why are they requesting my references? I cannot stop worrying that they might not like my job performance or they're thinking about not making me permanent and give me notice :/
He said he would give me very good references as he knew how much I needed a better paid position. I just cannot understand... why check my references now? I think its too late for that, isn't it? Or am I over thinking and being unreasonable? or is there something odd going on?
Please let me know your thoughts X

Are you in a large organisation? Sounds like a bit of a tick box exercise that someone forgot to do so they're chasing it up now so it's on file.

Sounds like an admin error- they should have taken them up earlier but it got missed.

If they weren't happy with you and were thinking of giving you notice they wouldn't bother taking up references.

I think it's an error too, or overstretched HR. The original request may also have gone astray so they're chasing now as part of regular checks. I don't think you have anything to worry about op.

I wouldn't worry; an HR admin error once meant my references were chased after I'd been in the job long enough to have passed the sixth month probation period and had been given a permanent contract.
These things happen....I suspect it's not too unusual.

It's normal, once they application, assessment centre, interview processes are done, checks can be requested after empire had been employed.

References give an idea of the employee, however in the two years in employement, that's when the employee has to prove themselves to the employer.

Yeah, just HR incompetence, nothing new there, don't worry about it. I was once asked to show proof of my qualifications a good 2 years after starting my job.
