To wash my hair with shower gel?

Got new shower gel that's blueberry scented and it smells sooo good!

So decided to use it to wash my hair so my hair would smell of blueberries, and today my hair has been the softest and easy to manage that its ever been!

Will my hair be ruined by this...?

Most men's shower gels are for hair and body; I would be cautious but wouldn't not iyswim xxx

My hair would be like straw & it would probably strip my colour. I have very fussy hair, very few shampoos are accepted

I dont have colour (well I do, but its about halfway grown out and already pretty much faded out)

I had expected my hair to be really dry today and so surprised that its not!

I've done it before while camping and have been to lazy to take an extra bottle of something. It made my hair slightly greasy as it was a moisturising body wash. But no harm was done.

Try it once and see?

In extremis I have used Stergene,that made my hair very soft.

They're both just foaming detergents, gpsuitabke to be used directly in the human body.

There are certain shower gels that can be used on hair as well anyway! (Which brand are you using BTW?)

It's all essentially just soap. I do it all the time. We're only marketed all these different products to get us to spend more money (I'm a cynical git)

Agree with albatross. Soap is soap. Dh in the cosmetics trade aswell and loves his cosmetics but for me if it cleans you ots good enough for me

I always use shower gel as we just buy the one bottle and we all use it for hair and body. Haven't noticed any difference to be honest. However I don't do anything with my hair beyond washing it and then tying it in a messy bun all day so nay not be the best to advise

Using a different thing to your usual can sometimes strip any silicon etc that's built up - maybe why it seems so lovely!

I find non-conditioning stuff makes my hair feel dryer and dryer after a while - but that might not happen here. If it does, not a massive disaster.

I've had to do this at hotels and my hair was so frizzy and dry after!

Shower gel and shampoo are essentially the same thing, so no real risk. Shampoo may be slightly more acid though to be gentler.
They are NOT, however, soap. Don't put actual soap on your hair.

Camping at the moment and forgot to carry my washbag up to the showers thanks to all the crap ds insisted on I used their foaming handwash on my hair and it has never looked or felt better !

Why not soap? I have used a bar of soap on my hair from time to time and it's been quite soft afterwards.

Actually shower gels often contain more conditioning agents than shampoos which are designed to be used with a separate conditioner.

Proper soap is fine on hair as long as you use an acidic rinse, such as vinegar or dilute lemon juice. However many soaps are in fact detergents anyway, same as shampoos. Dove is a detergent not a soap, for example, although it contains so many additional conditioners I would expect it to leave hair feeling worse than it did when unwashed. However the best soap for hair is a soft soap made with potassium hydroxide. I think you may still be able to buy it from chemists. Still needs an acidic rinse.

I'm glad that I'm not ruining my hair! And that I can save a fortune on only buying one bottle of stuff for washing everything!

Its just fairly basic shower gel I picked uo in ASDA, nspa stuff. They do all sorts of fruity flavours, I have blueberry and I also have a raspberry flavour ome that is almoat as nice.

It also doubles as a lovely bubble bath as well!

I've used washing up liquid and my hair was fabulous after, I only used it as I'd ran out of shampoo but I do it on purpose occasionally now
You should all try it, it's amazing, really shiny hair!

Oh and conversely tccat - I've used shampoo sometimes when washing up dishes (if we've run out of liquid) and they come out proper sparking.

DH is disgusted with me for that (don't know own why... it's not as if I'm using my actual hair to do the dishes!)
